I like him. Does more right than wrong but gets remembered for the wrong. Some of his passing is visionary and his work rate his non-stop.

While I agree we absolutely need someone who does that - Carroll is not good enough yet at our level to do it for us. Plus he's unfortunately lightweight, so is easily pushed off the ball and also too easily beaten in the air. In that sense he takes away as much from the team as he provides IMHO. |
I fall a little bit between you and Clive. I like LTC, think he should be in the side, but we don't seem to have the players to accommodate him. Yesterday, we were either playing 4-3-1-2 or a diamond in midfield, depending how you look at it. Reason being, LTC is not strong enough or accomplished enough to play in a midfield 2 - at least, not alongside the players we have to play with him. So to get him in the side, Harry is making too many concessions. Yesterday, we had no pace at all in the side. None, until the substitutions. It's all very well having Tom playing good passes, but he does need players to be as bright as him for it to really work. I think it does work sometimes. The 4-1-4-1 formation v Middlesbrough where Faurlin played a strange attacking role, worked very well. But yesterday we had too many players who like all the play to be in front of them.
Look at how many players Hudd got in the box when they attacked compared to us. It's awful, but it goes back to what I've said for months - Harry has signed too many similar midfielders since last January. |  |

I must admit i like him he always wants the ball even when hes not playing well rather than hide like certain other players do(Gary O'Neil).As Northern said who else is actually going to pass that killer ball forward.Yes he wasnt the greatest today but he wasnt our worst player by a long way.Yes he does have weaknesses if he didnt he would be playing for Spurs not out on loan.The fact is we always need a boo boy at QPR and loan players are always easier to moan about. |  | | |

Felt today things only got better when the backs decided to bypass Carroll and get the ball moving via Phillips and later, Traore.
Carroll may turn out to be a good player but probably only at a top level club. Been touted as a future international, and if Cleverly can be then why not! Suspect he is the next Cleverly, adored by the football intelligentsia, but sussed out by the public long before he gets found out, only to be replaced by the next 'prodigy'.
I stand to be corrected, but has the guy actually assisted in a goal, any goal this season? We have a holding midfielder most weeks, so why is he so ineffective in the oppos final third. Probably spoilt watching Gerry Francis in the 70's, now that's a proper international, but we've had the likes of Don Masson who played in a similar style to Carroll but to ten times the effect. He will have a good career, carried along by more gifted pros, but it won't be here. |  | | |

Northern I see you've been taking this stance on Carrol for a while - but he really isn't a terrific little player. I can see that is approach to the game and tempo are good and its the kind of things coaches love to see - but the sine fact is his technicals are not up his ideas.
His passes are frequently underhit or played behind the run meaning we're actually staccato with him in the team.
But I do agree that we need someone who does what Tom tries to do - pass it around at tempo and make us play. It's just it can't be Carrol. |  |

I don't think 4-4-2 suits him which is not really an excuse for him but he wasn't helped by Henry not really protecting the back four which made his job harder. He didn't have the best of games in the first half yesterday but I agree with Clive that he is a decent player and one who really helps us, I don't get the negativity around him. If he came through our own youth set up we'd be raving about him. |  | | |

I like him a lot. He moves the ball quickly and is always quick to show for it. He didn't have a great game but the crowd getting on his back will not help him to help us this season. I heard plenty of that unfortunately. |  | | |

This little dude is so far overrated it's maddening. Yes he always shows for the ball, I'll give him that. I just really wish he wouldn't as he always gives it to the opposition. |  |

I hate to criticize young players who put in the effort but i just don't see the fascination with Carroll.
His passing is so telegraphed that the opposition know what he's going to do before hand meaning one interception after the other follows.
I've no doubt the potential to be a decent player is there,but he certainly isn't any better than average on a good day imo. |  | | |
