A great option when we have a lead and want to prevent a team from creeping too far forward

Might’ve missed a trick by not playing him at the end against Norwich but clearly got it right yesterday

He’s had a load of near misses and think a few goals are around the corner. Certainly needs them for his confidence

The benefit of our league position is that we don’t need to make short term expensive loan signings in jan window to get us through to the end of the year- like Isaac Hayden last year. Obviously we signed Edwards but that was 6 points ago (that might turn out to be a wasted signing even if he is good for a few months)

We can stay in the league with what we have and we’re better off saving our limited resources for next seasons push.

Agreed it’s an opportunity to give playing time to kids but besides kolli and Morgan, who are in any case getting minutes, curious who else there is in the set up?

Think there’s also a case to thinning the squad and loaning out players to get some wage relief and give players experience- santos edb etc

I mean, it seems a pretty bizarre rumour

Celar has been atrocious for us, barring one game. And beyond the lack of goals, he’s done so little- no hold up play, can’t run the channels, doesn’t link up particularly well

It’d be one thing if the rumours linked him to a second division German team- but does anyone think that the 7th place in bundesliga would want this guy?

Playing field at Center back means you take him out of midfield which is a huge drop off unless colback is available (from semi retirement)

Worth remembering the financial constraints and that every pound we spend today is one we can’t spend tomorrow

We have 3 good Center backs, one ropey back up and two guys who can also play there in dunne and field…. So people for 2 spots

It prob does make sense to get someone in but all we’re trying to do is find a 4th or 5th option at Centerback

In what universe is Southampton our rival next year? Our highest finish in the last decade was 9th. Our average league position has been 15th.

And even if we are “rivals”, what is the concern? That one of the eleven southampton players is incrementally better in the two matches we’ll play them next year?

If qpr don’t sign him, someone else will

None of us have seen this guy play. Not sure why we’re assuming he’s going to suddenly get a starting gig at soton on the back of a few random appearances at qpr. It’s not uncommon for these prem loanees to end up flopping and playing at a lower level - look at Joe hodge now on loan in league one

I’m generally not a fan of these loans but could care less abt how it helps or hurts southampton

cifuentes has a tendency to take off players when theyre on yellows. field didnt make a case for staying on the pitch, particularly by committing a foul early in the second half

i think while the midfield let us down in the second half, cifuentes is to blame for the 2 dropped points here

-the lack of edb is odd- why not give him a run out? hes played 9 minutes across 3 appearances this season, yet been in the squad in all but 3 of the fixtures this season. imagine whats going through his head. if he cant even get a few minutes to p*ss about when we're winning 3-0 against norwich or certain to lose against swansea (if nothing else, but to rest other players), then why is he even in the team? this is really bad man management b/c it prob requires some mental strength to not go into a dark place when youre consistently in the squad but never play (when we hvae 5 subs to use!). might as well loan him out

but i think marti got it wrong in the subs, shape and tactics.... it was clear that we were totally incapable of keeping the ball- ball retention went away when madsen and varane came on, and was going to get worse when chair came off. norwich was all over us, and it was clear that if we were going to get 3 points, it was going to be like the cardiff match where we went into a defensive shell and just withstood a barrage

that being the case, what was the point of the bennie for chair sub? what did he think he was going to do?

we couldve either brought on jcs as another big body to defend the box in a back 5... or we couldve brought on an athlete like edb who can win the ball and also has some ball control. even if he wanted an attacker for an attacker, bennie was the wrong sub- lloyds pace couldve provided an outball and someone who you can kick it long to to relieve some pressure

substitutions aside, the lack of pragmatism was mind boggling. i understand there's a style of play, but we're away from home, have only 15 mins to get through, norwich was all over us, nardi had already made a mistake playing out the back.... if we play that way with jcs, cook or morrison in the backline, then fair enough. but we had fox, whose skittish in the best of times, and dunne, who is out of position, as our backline. i dont think theyve ever played togehter as the back 2... if ever there was a time to be super cynical, this was the game.... yet we continued to play into trouble

Can’t say that wasn’t deserved

They could’ve equalised multiple times over

Now we just need to hold onto the point

Why were we faffing around? Why can’t we just clear our lines rather than try to play out of rouble….

You know the bench is thin when Bennie is coming into defending the Alamo time

Marti definitely needs to look ahead w some of the fixture congestion

Not a bad shout to save legs and give guys like Bennie Lloyd Edb a run out

Lot better this half but amazingly still no shors

The King's speech?

Agreed

I hope the fans do not let this run of form distract them from the issues and from the fact that this guy is a huckster - that we wasted money on madsen and celar, froze out kolli and went into season with one left back

Where was his updates when we were in last place?

It shows a lot about the character of the guy that he puts out this statement on the back of a few good results but that he was nowhere to be seen when we were in the sh*t

If anything this only reinforces my opinion of the guy

Absolutely ridiculous thread

As if playing left back and right back are interchangeable positions….. let’s play saito as centre back and see how he does

He’s not good as a left back (at least going forward and in possession)…. But any failure is on management for going into the season w one left back in the squad (particularly after they almost binned off paal in summer)….. would be nice if we could get lakreche back from his loan- very serviceable second left back
