Stats. There's only one stat that really counts. Yesterday watching Villa Everton. Villa had 86% possession and were 2-0 down. Ok they came through in the end. I'm happy to have less possession but more goals. The modern day obsession with stats on everything is bewildering. Well certainly for me it is.
It will be interesting to see what we have changed if anything after our recent inept performances. Norwich no pushovers and I think will come here looking for a win.
Anyone one remember Millington walking on his hands when we scored a goal? Also for those on or near pensionable age Tony had one of his saves pictured in the Shoot magazine which was the footy Mag of it's time.
There's playing out from the back with 30 passes that gets you as far as the halfway line with the keeper getting about 5-6 of those touches. That tends to happen when the opposition don't press aggressively. Then there's playing out from the back when they do press aggressively which tends to be suicidal unless you have the standard of players who are of a quality to do it. I know it's perceived to be the modern game but is it that entertaining when it's tried for the majority of the game?
Page certainly is not the man. Whoever is will not succeed with this less than average bunch of players. We were spoilt with our run in the 2016 Euro's. Those type of players have slowly eroded and we've had very little quality coming through. I'm all for being patriotic and wishing us to do well but I am a realist too.
