tour of scotland.....
at 21:10 19 Oct 2024

Moved to Scotland in 97 to avoid stuff.
Found plenty here. Found a home.
If I start to unpack it, I won’t stop.

Only one thing I will say though - North Coast 500: consider the locals as its popularity out performs its infrastructure. Consider choosing a place and enjoy it slowly (on the route) or elsewhere rather than rack up miles of whizzing glimpses.
Slow down and feel a place.

Of course, after the sermon, and in the spirit of self-determination… do what you like to love life. ❤️

Otter

I would love to be able to swim, dive, gallop and hunt like an otter.
Whiskers, claws, tail rudder, nose, eyes and teeth. Yeah. The lot.

I quite like fish too.

Good luck to him and his family. He seems like a good’un.

England vs some other team. Euros Semi Final match thread.
at 12:18 9 Jul 2024

Good to read varying views on where this England team is at.

A question on bigger picture
How much of the success / underachievement is down to infrastructure?
Can success be measured in a more nuanced way other than tournament qualification and progress?

Interesting to go back to 2012, St George’s Park opening and what was being said about the future we’re currently in.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/19881116

David Sheepshanks, chairman of St George's Park, said the new complex can help England close the gap on recent World Cup winners such as France and Spain.
"This is a place to inspire young people and young coaches to invest in themselves and go beyond just getting the badge," he said.
"The teachers of the game have the defining influence. We are investing in the teachers so that we can get ahead of what they are doing in France and Spain.
"This is a deliberately long-term view. Really it is the investment in coaches that is crucial and from 2020 onwards we will have winning England teams."

England v Switzerland Quarter Final match thread

Yeah. In the end (which is what really matters) I felt joy in Konsa’s performance, Saka’s performance and goal, and then his penalty, in Eze’s contribution, in the delight on the faces of those fans who spent big to be there.

Pubs, restaurants, media outlets, businesses will all feel the benefit of another England game.

Yeah, I felt joy. I’m sure that’s okay with you?
You don’t have to feel it too. That’s okay. But knowing other people are joyful maybe helpful or of interest - I dunno.

Wow!
Do you think Sam Allardyce would’ve taken us to three semi finals?
That’s what Southgate stepped in to.
How hard is it to get to three semi finals (including a final)?
That’s what Southgate has done.

Could we do it easier - subjective?

Entitled opinions such as ‘we should be better because of the players we got’ don’t win football matches or hearts and minds.

Could we do better? I hope so, but just now it’s a joy to see these players doing well.
International football is so tough.

2-0 (Kane, Stones)

Thoughts
International tournament football is much harder / tighter than i probably realise. Coaches get less time with players, club cliques, less ‘easy’ footballing nations etc.

Southgate is not Taylor or Keegan or McClaren or Hodgson or Allardyce…

Hype is high. This time of year the OTT mainstream press circus sets up camp on the edge of town and resident expectations of bearded women and dwarf firing canons go through the roof / canopy.

Knickers get twisted, flags get waved, faces get painted and that weird uncle who’s lazy eye always seems to rest on your sister passes out on the couch at halftime due more to a lack of quality rather than solely alcohol content.

I accept hospitality businesses are the ones praying for a nation to ‘go deep’. Cash ain’t it.

Suggestion
Have a laugh, don’t take it (yourself) too seriously. Keep trees vertical, be nice to strangers but don’t get in their cars, only disagree with people whose opinion you value.

Sofa King Cheap was a furniture store near Wishaw I think.

Question for a Scottisher
at 08:46 19 May 2024

I saw Hearts win at Celtic in Dec, they’ve had a good season - tailed off a bit.
Fans of national team are optimistic for Shankland this summer.

When I first moved to Scotland (late 90’s) I was told of the business model for certain new stadiums being built (ICT, Falkirk, Clyde) included a large away end or stand that can be used for away fans (particularly Celtic /GR).

I believe over the years that fans revenue has reduced in comparison to other streams (not to the extent of in England though), so less need to accommodate Old Firm away fans.
As alluded to above the cost of policing / stewarding increases the more away fans you attract too.

I always draw Venetian Blinds horizontal before raising them.
It’s what you should do because that’s how they’re designed.

Also, upright fridges don’t work so well if you leave the door open whilst you make a brew.

Remarkably, alternatives to putting the central heating on exist - socks, jumpers, joggers, closing windows / doors etc.

Thanks for listening.

Does This Ref Get The First Ever Zero Rating From Clive .
at 06:55 8 Mar 2024

QPR boss Marti Cifuentes:

"I've been told that West Brom played with two keepers for a while.

"I'm not here to complain. I'm here to make sure my team is better, so if we need to play against two keepers then we need to practice playing against two keepers.

"Football is a game with mistakes and unfortunately refs can make mistakes as well. They have a very difficult job - the second most difficult job, after being a manager.

"On the pitch I thought their keeper made an amazing save - I mean the real keeper. That shows you how difficult the referee's job is. I was shown it (on video) afterwards."

We can be more like Marti.

I loved Gary O’Neil cheating (getting caught) at Wembley.
Brom fans loved Cedric Kipre cheating (not getting caught) at LR.
That’s football.

I could be wrong but I think I see JCS admiringly clarify with Kipre what happened at the end of ext highlights. Professionals make big decisions quickly. Kipre made the right one.

We move on stronger. 💪🏼

at 09:47 25 Feb 2024

Good post hoopsie
Agree with gazza that they’re all massive now.
Need to focus on consistency - getting the most out of this squad until end of season (grow confidence).

Avoid looking at others around us, concentrate on who we are and what we can achieve (we will win, draw and lose before May).
HEAD

Of course, we’re fans too.
With other teams picking up points around us - what do we think the safety points total will be?
47 - 52….
