End of Term Report 17/18 — Goalkeepers
at 10:47:38

I haven’t been to enough games to have a personal opinion but I’m fascinated why it only seems to be us that rates Smithies so highly. The Whoscored data website rates more than half the goalkeepers in the division as better than him. You can argue about the data approach but it clearly is not biased

Also we don’t have anyone that interested in buying him indeed I’d guess Lumley’s potential might make him more saleable. My guess once you’ve played in the Championship people think that is your level. Also who is the last Championship keeper bought by a EPL team for big money?

Ji-Sung Park coup accelerates QPR brand building
at 10:52:04

What is his best position? I thought it was left wing which doesn't bode well for Adel.

I think Park will be a good signing but I love watching Taarabt play and I love his song too.

Michael Cox from Zonal Marking on Park:

Park has established himself as a ‘big game’ player for United, and Ferguson has long favoured the Korean international for tricky away trips and Champions League games. It may be a cliché, but Park’s best quality is his defensive ability – his work rate is combined with an ability to track, tackle and intercept.

That’s only half the reason he’s favoured in games where United see less of the ball, though. Park is also fantastic at playing on the counter-attack, not just for his pace and energy, but because he uses the ball so well at transitions between defence and attack. Remember Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal on the break at the Emirates in 2009, or Wayne Rooney’s similar strike at the same stadium at the start of 2010 – Park was involved at the start of both moves, playing the ball forward intelligently into space when another player might have hoofed it clear.

Rochdale prosecute QPR fringe players’ case — full match report
at 12:54:31

Having an academy won't make a difference unless we coach our young players properly. I live in West London and Brentford seem far more organised than QPR. But if my son was good enough I would sign him up with Watford they really put thought into their youth strategy.

They could develop him then he could leave on a free to QPR ;-)

This Week — Hello darkness my old friend
at 14:45:24

First an excellent article yet again. Clive is a brilliant journalist. (although I surprised he didn't mention Wigan rugby league ;-)

The thing we have in our favour is Bernie Ecclestone. He is not the kind of man to be messed with. We have the money to defend ourselves and perhaps crucially to delay the process so that it puts the play-offs in jeopardy. I can't see us being given a punishment that would force us out of the play-offs.

An old school friend of mine from Ealing was a barrister for one of the minor defendents in the Gun trial. What he told me was that the jury didn't believe a word Paladini said (in some ways this is obvious from the verdict). He went a bit further in detail but as Clive suggests he's not the kind of witness you'd want to build your case on.

Maybe Sheffield Wednesday could sue us for their relegation. Argentine player of year saves London club from relegation but sends Sheffield club down with Neil Warnock involved. Its deja vu all over again.

Two things I'm looking foward to Neil Warnocks' column and Dave McIntyre's take on the issue.
