"That's why McCarthy will always be here." That wins the most doom laden comment of yesterday for me. If I see shite, I like to call shite but actually Macca had a good game yesterday. And boy have Saints fans got short memories, it was only last week Saints had a spirited win away to Ipswich. If we beat Bournemouth Juric will be given the key to the City LOL! It was dis-spiriting yesterday but remember Burnley have one of the best defensive records in the football league and are a decent team. We just didn't quite have the class to finish them off although we easily could have done. The worrying thing for me was Juric's team selection with one centre half, two on the bench, Manning left wing half and Aribo filling in occasionally at centre back. Weird, worrying and wrong. It was clear he was asking for trouble with a team that are no mugs. Sulemana and Wellington were the only ones that showed any promise or gave me any hope. Let's just hope Juric can forget his stupid experiment and return to some common sense against Bournemouth, otherwise we're going to get slaughtered. And that would be very embarassing despite Bournemouth being a miles better team. [Post edited 9 Feb 10:22]

To me Juric played Bednarek centre back with Aribo falling back to cover and Bree and Manning occasionally tucking in to cover from the left. Bree as centre-right and Wellington as left back. But Manning also played left wing back and was the only play two get two shots on target albeit that these were feeble. Confused! I was but I think the players were as well. Hopefully the abysmal defensive strategy and selection will at least give Juric time to wobble his head sufficiently to get it right for Bournemouth next Saturday. Apart from the defence; I just couldn't understand why he didn't have two wingers (Sulemana and Dibling) with Big Paul in the middle. And the subs were put on too late to make any difference. We were unlucky and they were very lucky in some respects. A bad day at the office but we only have ourselves to blame. [Post edited 8 Feb 17:55]

Burnley score from attack down left wing a few lucky knock ons but our poor defence fail to clear it. |

Dibling off. Wellington having a good game - even covering on the right. Sulemana just misses from outside the box. |

Burnley more in the game. Aribo playing good defensive role. Sulemana needs to be taken off before he's sent off. Big Paul coming on. |

Half- Time, 0-0. Saints on top but barely any penetration. Same old then. [Post edited 8 Feb 15:51]

Good ball over the top to let KWP in but he fluffsit.Burnley then broke with with the defender easily beaten the balls hits Mac's chest and away. Juric needs to come to his senses regarding the defence otherwise we could lose this. |

Three successive shots on goals from Saints. Great defending Burnley. Sulemana causing all the trouble. We'd be better with 2 wingers and tall Paul in the middle. Crosses coming but nobody there. |

Our defence has a certain 'je ne ce quoi' or lightness about it today! I understand it because theirs is like a brick wall at the moment. Hope this doesn't run to extra time or pens. The ref is crud by the way but I suppose that's par for the course. [Post edited 8 Feb 15:24]

Apparently last year's total payroll was £48,646,000 and these total payroll figures do sound reasonable (hell of a lot of waste and refuse in there). Agree some of the wage comparisons don't sound feasible but where are the true figures then Nick? Shouldn't we be told this as fans with a 'stake' in the club? |

Yes, three at the back, without sufficiently covering full backs, is too chancy against the better teams; the centre backs are too easily exposed having to cover too much ground while the full backs are still half way up the pitch or desperately sprinting back (aka KWP and whoever's left back)- which is not proper defending - you defend with your back to your own goal. The present formation can be easily picked apart. Go to a 4-4-2 solidity and then we might have a chance of not conceding easy goals ( in my dreams!) and building from there. If we carry on defending like we are then we have no chance. Hopefully Juric will adapt accordingly - it'll be interesting to see how he sets the team up against Bournemouth; the present system would be suicidal. [Post edited 2 Feb 10:34]
