Is the reason why Swansea have performed so average in the Premier League (not in Europa League) this season, because the heart in Swanseas "machine room" the defensive midfielder (Canas) and the creative midfielder (Shelvey) are new in Swansea and need some time together before they preform optimal.
Or are they just not good enough (Canas and Shelvey)?

My opinion is that they (Canas and Shelvey) are not good enough.

You got to laugh at silly posts like this. So every player that is sold is deemed not good enough for that club? Wow, my twelve year old daughter doesn't even think like that.
To answer the OP, we haven't looked average at all, not in my opinion anyway. I have zero worries in our performances this year. |  |

Average???
We've been sublime in the away games against West Brom & Palace.
Unlucky against Liverool and were down to the bare bones against Arsenal.
Have been great in the Europa cup and have played most of the top 6 already.

From now until Christmas, with the exception of Man City, we don't play any top six teams. If we're still around 15th or lower by then maybe we should start getting worried, but we've played well enough so far to suggest that we're good enough to be in mid table again.

I for one think both Canas and Shelvey offer great competition in the middle of the park, allowing rest or injury cover. Canas has been very good so far in his tenure, and despite Shelvey having a little inconsistency, there has been enough about his play to suggest he will be a decent acquisition (if he hasn't already proven so to some).
One thing I will say and this may be bias after having watched Britton more than the rest of the midfield through the years, is his desire to break up play by harassing attackers, buying time for other players to get back to position. Also his ability and willingness to fill in anywhere across the back line when one of the other defenders has been more adventurous is a huge asset when playing counter attacking teams. He also has a good instinct of when to take a tactical foul to allow his teammates time to regroup under pressure.
Also to those dissing De Guzman, granted he had a less than impressive opening two games of this season, he has picked up his levels very well and is showing his worth to the side. A very good player last year for us who, for some reason unknown to me, seems to polarise opinion. But then again there always has to be a scapegoat for some people. |  |
