Welsh Team a joke 21:12 - Sep 6 with 34641 viewsSgorioFruit

ok well i can't blame the welsh team itself but something isnt right.
The whole situation is a joke.

*worlds most expensive player sits on the bench for his national team. unfit?? pfffttt

* the FAW is a complete joke and no manager/team/club has anything good to say about them

*we lose 2-1 to Macedonia

This is the greatest season there could ever be for Welsh football to start growing. The FAW should really start capitalizing on the fact that Wales has two major teams in the premier league and get everyone together to sort out the WPL. Make it into a league which people can be proud of.

as for the national team? why play top players? Give the national team positions to players in the WPL. why not? we may get thumped 8-0, but who cares, because we wont qualify for anything as it stands anyway.

time to shake things up.
and not once did i mention Coleman, no need!!

My methods are not favoured by some but by god i speak the truth.

Lets put it this way I hope Wales win every game they play but I still don't care if they don't.
If they were in the World Cup finals I might have a butchers if I didn't have anything better to do.

So you do care then. You're just being fickle like most other Welsh football fans. It's ok, it's in our DNA.

Genetically, paedophiles have more genes in common with crabs than they do with you and me. Now that is scientific fact. There's no real evidence for it, but it is scientific fact.

OK, fine. You're not bothered if they lose. I get that. But to say you don't care is wrong. This isn't a personal attack on yourself, Dar, not at all. I just think that 90% of Welsh football fans are fickle. When we have a chance of qualifying, the Millennium stadium will be rammed full again. Just like when we beat Italy at home and had that play-off with Russia. It's just how it is in Wales. We all know that.

Again, why blame the manager? Do you not agree with what I wrote earlier on?

Also, can we not merge some of these Wales threads? There seems to be the same argument on about 3 of them.

I don't agree. The manager is what makes the difference on national teams imo.

It's an incredibly difficult process to get players coming from different clubs and playing styles to gel as a coherent unit in the very short time available. It's an art form that is best left in the hands of specialists. Believing that any manager can do it, is like believing that any doctor can do brain surgery imo.

Who those "brain surgeons" are. That is beyond my knowledge. But a good starting point would be somone who has had a good career as a coach, someone who has won cup tournaments and also has participated as a player in the big international tournaments. I think that would be a pretty safe choice for someone who knows what it takes.

I don't disagree with you entirely. My point is that in the case of the Welsh national team, I personally don't see how a new manager would make a great deal of difference right now. I didn't say that any manager can do as good a job as any other. I just mean in this case.

At the risk of repeating myself here a little but Wales don't have a great squad. We have a very good selection of midfielders. One world class player. Half a good defence and an average-good goalkeeper. Up front we have nothing, really.

My point is, if we are able to field our strongest 11 players for each game we'd be doing ok. As has been proven in the past and under Speed (for his best performances as manager). When we get a few injuries and players pull out,the players that come in to replace them are simply not good enough at international level.

From the team that lost to Macedonia, going into the Serbia game on Tuesday, we are going to lose our captain and probably best defender in Ashley Williams. Sam Ricketts is also struggling (he plays at League One level anyway!) so he may miss out and one of our brightest midfielders is also out, in Jonathan Williams.

Who will come in to replace these? Whoever it is, they won't be up to it. This is always our main problem. The manager is an easy target.

You say it like Wales is the only country with those problems. But is no different than any other national team coming from a small country.

If you read comments from other countries they all say the same as you do. Everytime I discuss the national team with other Danes, everybody always say that we don't have enough good players. And they are right. We don't. But that's the deal. And it has always been like that. And of course it's like that. Denmark is a miniscule country compared to England, France, Germany etc. Still we do alright. 2 years ago Denmark were number 10 on the FIFA rankings. The star of that team was Nicklas f_cking Bendtner, outcast from Arsenal. We have even been as high as number 4. That is totally overachieving. It shouldn't even be possible. But it is. And the difference is the manager.

The challenges are the same for all small countries. And you need a specialist that can cope with exactly those challenges.

That's what I think anyway.

Yep. Other teams get there with organisation and belief. Republic of Ireland being the obvious example. We keep picking pointy-headed brainless tits as managers (Hughes was, and is one of those, possibly the worst, as he provided the template for failure to the FAW that they've desperately tried to follow ever since) and, surprise surprise, we fail miserably every single time. It was blindingly obvious we hit a happy accident with the coaching team under Speed and we disbanded it rather than retaining it and putting a decent front man in charge.

We deserve what we get. F**k all.

I don't really want to start comparing Wales to countries of similar size to be honest! I totally understand what you're saying and you did make me smile with your comments around Bendtner.

I guess what I am saying, and i'll still say the same thing, is that when Wales have their best 11 out on the field, we do perform well. It's just very rarely it happens. It's all about consistency for me. Gary Speed had a lot of flack when he first took over. After a while, and the more continuity in the team selection, we started to win games.

I am not saying Coleman is the greatest manager around, and I would love Gary Speed to still be here and in charge of the side, but he's not. After his death, the Wales job became even more difficult. There was always going to be a bit of a slump after that. I personally think that by showing Coleman that the FAW are behind him, the players will get the same message and hopefully will realise that they all need to pull together in the same direction. The fans included.

If it doesn't work out, and we finish below where we expect in the next qualifiers then we'll see what happens. We were drawn as the worst possible team in this current group, so to have a chance of finishing 3rd out of 6th is very good IMO. We are expected to finish 6th and 5th at a push.

Is it fair to suggest the whole "lost passport" thing was thus a ruse by Coleman to make them think he was a clueless f***wit instead of the world's greatest manager?

If so, he clearly psyched himself out.

Toshack looked like a tramp when he managed Wales.
He had his day well before then.

Nah, Im talking now, I mean they are the best arent they, so wheres their managers ?

Taking away the place of birth, look at Cardiffs recent managers.

Our recent ones actually manage the 2 big merseyside clubs .....

Dave Jones ? Being 'schooled elsewhere ......

Another reason why they are second best I suppose.
