He's a freak. Thursday's game wasn't a good insight into him but he'll be an absolute monster again. Some are saying he's the best defensive prospect in years. I'm hoping the Raiders don't draft 1st or 2nd because he's capable of putting up similar numbers to Von Miller and Aldon Smith.

arrived home from nyc today. saw the jets-eagles game which was a little slow paced (who can blame being a week away from the regular season) . the whole experience was by far extraordinary to say the least larger than life, in a word it was fantastic.

we caught a coach from times square to metlife which took about 20 mins, the events that followed were incredible. keep in mind i had never heard of the tailgating concept so seeing fans outside the stadium having a bbq, beers, music and throwing the football around blew my mind (there were quite a few even though it was pre season). once you've entered the complex its pretty much up to you how you go about your pre game antics. something that completely blew me away was how many concession stands there were (i'll post a photo of this up soon) along the concourse there were stands for everything hotdogs, burgers, beer, pretzels, fried clams..... yes fried clams it was amazingly ridiculous. we were sat in section 116 row 24, basically on the 30-yard line and i must say the seats were fantastic. people around us were asking if we were season ticket holders and after talking to most it appeared as though the majority in our section were.

of all the modern stadiums i've visited i'd put metlife ahead of wembley easy for the matchday experience. what also struck me were how polite and friendly the people are in new york, particulary staff in the stadium.

matt barkley looked solid at qb for the eagles and looks ample back up for vick, another player who caught my eye was rogers? receiver for the jets? for what he lacked in acceleration he more than made up in route running and ability to beat defenders.

also bought a tebow pats t shirt on the friday...... was released the next day, what a decision that was. overall fantastic, can't knock anything the nfl fans put us to shame in regards to passion for the sport.

Thanks, MJR. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.

I forget the name of the movie. It was about a Soviet circus performer defecting in New York City. When a Soviet minder tries to take the performer into custody, he's stopped by a department store security guy, who keeps the arrest from taking place, telling the minder, "He can do anything he wants to do. This is New York."

I'm guessing you saw some of that New Yorker attitude.

Patriots offence looked very bare today. Still ground out a win. Amendola was remarkable.

Its just a ride.

Amendola showed his class but got to worry how many games he's going to miss injured.

Edelman was fantastic and backed up my view he's an under rated receiver.

Need to get Gronk back as quickly as possible, no Aaron Dobson who was injured today, Pats need one of the young guns to step up, Thompkins made so many basic errors!

Those of you posters who did not enter the "JNF NFL Braggin' Rights Competition," it's not too let. Start with Card #2 when it is uploaded later.

We're all serious about playing, but are not so serious about the "prize" [which is braggin' rights for a year].

Join us.

Not many better things to watch than Redzone. Great finish in the Jets game, that Buccs player will have head his head ripped off by Schiano. Some impressive performances from EJ Manuel and Pryor. Even Geno played pretty well.
Been looking forward to this Packers - 49ers game all day. Kaepernick has a beautiful throw. 7-7.

Eagles almost made fatal mistake, taking a break from their almost unstoppable attack when they were up about 33-7 with most of the second half still to be played. You just cannot do that that in the NFL.

The first half was pure footballing delight!

That first half was superb. They didn't let the Redskins catch their breath. Looking forward to seeing more of it. Some of the formations they did were confusing the defense also, loved when he put the two lineman out wide. Mccoy back to his best, defense played well especially 1st half. Eagles have a real chance of winning the division if they stay healthy.

Away from the NFL, I notice Texas A & M / Alabama is on ESPN 8.30 Saturday night. That should be worth watching, a chance to see Johnny 'football' Manziel if you haven't already (he really is remarkable in my view) against one of the best college teams. A & M shocked them last season by winning away.

Chargers @ Eagles.

Good game to watch - for Chargers fans or neutrals.

My come-away: The Chargers have figured out how to beat the Eagles. Do the opposite - slow down play by running the play clock down to 2 seconds before the snap.

This both keeps the Eagles defense on the field virtually all game, and keeps Chargers defense off the field and fresh.

Eagles offense did look great, however few minutes it was playing.

My question. How many more times will this work?

I don't care. I'm old. I don't have to.

It relies too much on 3 players. No depth to it all, Vick has been hurt in both games, a matter of time before he misses games. He's playing as well as I've seen, throwing perefect bombs all over the field.

End of the day, it doesn't matter how good the offence is if they can't stop anyone. I watched this game and the Chargers walked all over them. They should have won more easily and would have without silly turn overs.

Seattle look unstoppable at the moment. If they get home field advantage all the way through the playoffs I think they make the SB. They still got Harvin to come back too.

My Broncos are looking good but we could be losing Clady our LT maybe for the season. Certainly for a few weeks.

I know I repeat myself, but I hope you have a most enjoyable time and see a good rock'em sock'em game. With the Steelers and Jets, that is most likely to happen,

Match report when you get back? Thanks.

Gosh, after that I didn't really want to post this. Tonight we are down on the New Jersey shore south of Asbury Park. The devastation down here is still very bad,a year after last years hurricane.our ny experience took in steely dan & Ian anderson (jethro Tull) at the beacon theatre 75th street. Someone has already bought us jets t shirts all we need are the hats. The giants lost again last night to the bears much to the dismay of the crowd in the bar we were in. However, I am an honorary jet for the week so I don't care! Warwick, if you are reading this I'm over with Noo Joysey Jack.

So, we went to the Metlife Stadium last Sunday to see the Jets v Steelers game. Much was as MJR reported in an earlier post, but here’s my take on the day.
We travelled by train up from the NJ shore, changing at Secausus for the shuttle to the Stadium. First culture shock was the party going on in the car parks. The stadium is new and immediate impressions are that it was built from standard B&Q stadium components (i.e. it looks and feels very much like Wembley). Beer and food were a bit pricey ($10 a beer anyone?) but there were plenty of places selling.
Once inside, we found our seats right in the top row — as expected. The view from those seats was in fact excellent and there were numerous hi-def screens dotted around replaying the action. No rain, in fact a sunny day so no risk of a soaking (in fact there was a roof over the top few rows).
As for the game, it was as true experience watching NFL live for the first time. As the game progressed the Jets fans became angrier and expressed their dejection at all available opportunities of which there were several as the Jets QB threw mislaid passes or was sacked. A particularly angry fan in the seats next to us disappeared for more beer at half time never to return. The Steelers won through superior defence play. In truth, it was not a particularly exciting game with most points coming from field goals. The Steelers fans were vociferous and I was surprised by how many of them attended. I was intrigued by Davillin’s comment about their “terrible towels”. Well there were plenty of them on display.
After the game, a bit of a queue for the shuttle back to Secausus with holding pens like at Cardiff after rugby internationals. However, well organised with frequent trains. We got one after a 20 minute wait.
Really, it was a wonderful day out, and I would urge any Planet Swans visitors to try and get to a game if visiting in-season. One noticeable thing is that many of the corporate seats remained empty for the duration, denying true fans a seat. Very reminiscent of Wembley.

I'm glad you enjoyed your day at MetLife Stadium, oldgrey. And special thanks for the "match report."

"Tailgate parties" are a fixture at NFL and college games. Nearly all have regulars at each tailgate at every home game. Some of the tailgaters have very elaborate rigs, as you saw. There's a family a block and a half from me who have a big RV painted in Penn State colours, which they take to Happy Valley for their own parties.

Check out one or two of the huge number of websites dedicated to tailgating supplies.

I don't care. I'm old. I don't have to.
