I suppose it depends on who at Swansea initiated the move on Dawson. If Rogers accepts the Liverpool job, then he might be interested to take Craig there instead. |

The minute a player indicates they want to leave then you do something about it. Whether that's give him a new deal on silly money like Rooney, or selling him, you don't just ignore it.
We got him back for another season, that in itself made the deal worth more. Imagine a back four without Dawson that first season in League 1, we'd have had to spend good money just to replace him. |
We never did replace him. Either Hillcroft, knowing he was leaving, or then last season successive managers.
Not replacing him is a large part of why we find ourselves where we are.
(and just to pre-empt some responses, I never in a million years expected us to sign another centre half who was destined to play in the top flight and go on to become perhaps one of the countries top players, especially from a non-league side for a nominal fee and who grew up in the town. I know that in many senses 'Our Craig' was irreplaceable. In terms of being a competent defender at league one level he was not, and therefore should have been replaced - in my opinion before he actually left, say in Hilcroft's last January window. They knew he was going, he'd already been sold, so why not line up a replacement). |  | | |

Hill allegedly had Jim McNulty lined up as a summer signing, but then Hill went to Barnsley and McNulty joined them instead.
One thing you could NEVER accuse Hill of was not thinking about replacements for departing players. |  |
