Dunne off? on 14:54 - Feb 1 by baz_qpr | At the end of the day he will get more money, maybe a promotion under his belt and possibly some premiership games. He’s not going to turn it down. But let’s be honest 18 months ago he was a bit part player, 3 months ago we would have said 5th choice centre back. Like most of the team he had a poor start. He has been sensational in the last few months as he was in the last few months of last season. It’s a huge shame but it is what it is, FFP means we can’t hand out big contracts Willy nillly and not all at the same time. It’s why we do them in Jan. |
Yes but still spend 3 million on a useless waste of space.

Dunne off? on 15:08 - Feb 1 with 3092 views | cpgerber | I share the sentiments, great character doing an excellent job for us at the moment. But we'll survive post Dunne, even more so if 2m transfer fee is true. That's money we can well use. Everyting around the deal makes sense for us and Dunne. I don't think we can compare this with Hull selling Jarrod Bowen and going down. Different players playing very different roles in the team. Let's see how we manage with what we have now. Who knows, maybe a decent RB replacement is already lined up.

Dunne off? on 02:07 - Feb 1 by PlanetHonneywood | I'm of the district opinion that some on here think all QPR have to do is put a contract on the table and the player will sign it. No other factors exist and if the player doesn't sign, then QPR must have cocked up. Doesn't matter if the player wants to go, has a better offer, a bigger club is interested, personal reasons, we can't afford his demands, etc. because such factors don't exist. Ever. It's only ever about what QPR want. |
This. It takes two to tango and both must be willing and able to dance. Some folk appear to think that if a player doesn't sign then the only reasonable explanation is that the club simply allowed him to walk. Whilst that is one possibility, there are a myriad of others for why contract negotiations fail.

Dunne off? on 14:47 - Feb 1 by numptydumpty | Have not seen this confirmed anywhere. We have turned down a second bid. Being out of the squad, could also be explained by announcing his new long term extended contract with QPR before the Blackburn game. Although we would know about this before as transfer window closes on Monday night. Its never over and tlll its over !!! I would be so peed off though !!! |
Thinking that Dunne is not in the squad today because QPR are going to make a big contract announcement on Tuesday is an ‘interesting’ theory.

I'd imagine it was Dunne's decision, they dont get to bid stage if the players reps have not indicated they might be interested.

Dunne off? on 17:17 - Feb 1 with 1986 views | QPRcounsellor | If Dunne is going to Sheffield Utd it really is a surprise to me. A surprise if he wasn't wanted and we let him go or a surprise that he's decided himself to leave. Yes, there's the money. That's literally the only reason I can think he's decided to go. Guaranteed that he will keep his flat in Chiswick and we'll still see him knocking about on the High Road now and again, because he absolutely loved living here. Only a few weeks ago he said in an interview that everything for him was about QPR, and he wasn't lying (it was to an Irish newspaper, so no need to). Remember his aunt who lived in Richmond and the family connections? Aside from his form and ability, the problem with Dunne leaving is that he is the heartbeat of the squad. He is always driving other players about in his car, always the focus of the group when in their coffee shops etc, he even started a group where they all lived in Chiswick and supported each other. Must be a funny life being a footballer. How will he feel sitting on the bench for Sheff Utd? Playing against his old team at the Loft End? Oh well, that's football. Few players really are Mr QPR, Mr Derby, Mr Chelsea or whoever. What an uninspiring move though. Oh and I think he'd have glanced in a header today.
Dunne off? on 17:44 - Feb 1 with 1731 views | LowerloftLad | Let him go. Wish him well, but we should snap up 2mill especially if he was to walk away for free in just 6months time. Will just be a shame watching him being torn apart everyweek in the Premier league for a season with sheffield united. As they will almost certainly be relgated again next season. Dunne off? on 18:01 - Feb 1 with 1548 views | QPRcounsellor | It's a shame being a "selling club" in our situation equates to snapping off the hand of an uninspiring Championship team for a measly £2m, for your stand out 27 year old defender who is genuinely passionate for the club, involved in everything that's good about the team spirit, in the form of his life and looking to go nowhere. I had naively thought it was about buying cheap, developing talent and selling them on for a large profit.

Why would it be a surprise? Footballers come and footballers go. The days of Mr. <insert club> are well behind us. Any football player worth his salt has ambition to play at the highest level possible. Aside from higher wages, Sheffield United can offer the chance to play at the top end of the Championship and the possibility of PL football. If Jimmy were to take his opportunity, that could open up the door to more caps for his country. Playing football is a short career and, at 27, Jimmy may not get another shot. Naturally, I hope he stays but I'm also realistic enough to recognise the reality of what's on offer. After serving QPR admirably for 4 years, Jimmy has earned the right to consider his options.

What a ridiculous post. Signed Dunne for free, selling him for £2m. How is that measly for a player with 6 months left on his contract? And that is classic example of buying cheap, developing talent and selling for a large profit. How do you know he was looking to go nowhere? No one knows what discussions, if any, have taken place between the club and player.

Well I hope that is the case because the move makes little sense otherwise. If he does stay my posts are premature and I'll be like Alan Partridge to Tony Hayers ....." you know when I called you fat earlier.......?"
Dunne off? on 18:11 - Feb 1 with 1409 views | Wegerles_Stairs | Pretty pissed off with him leaving if we don't replace him this window. We are six points off the play-offs despite losing the last two matches and are selling our best player this season. Ashby is useless - Nourry can **** off if he thinks he can replace him. And while he's about it, fire up Football Manager and get a decent left back in too.

Maybe you're right mate and I'm letting emotions get in the way. I don't know, still not sure I see it that way. The fact he only has 6 months left on his contract doesn't suggest it's a classic case of buying cheap and selling for a large profit. It's more a case of a situation that's come about where we just had to go for it due to a contract being run down. Nothing of a model about it at all. And yes, £2m is a lot of money in the real world, but it's not major by any means. I'm sure the plan wasn't "let's get this promising young Irish defender in, keep him til 27 and then flog him in the form of his life when he is integral to the team, for 2m quid". I met Jacob Reeves the other day, centre back who Hull sold for 15m. That is more like it. And a jolly nice chap he was too. [Post edited 1 Feb 18:19]

That's an incredibly harsh statement Wegs. Robinson and Dunne are a million miles apart. Robinson absolutely shafted us after we looked after him through numerous injury setbacks. He couldn't wait to leave. Dunne has always left everything out on the pitch when he's played and he has genuinely loved playing here. The fact that he played a day after his dad died says so much about him as a person and as a player here. Robinson was a mercenary snake, something Dunne will never be.
