At the end of the day he will get more money, maybe a promotion under his belt and possibly some premiership games. He’s not going to turn it down. But let’s be honest 18 months ago he was a bit part player, 3 months ago we would have said 5th choice centre back. Like most of the team he had a poor start. He has been sensational in the last few months as he was in the last few months of last season.
It’s a huge shame but it is what it is, FFP means we can’t hand out big contracts Willy nillly and not all at the same time. It’s why we do them in Jan. |

I share the sentiments, great character doing an excellent job for us at the moment. But we'll survive post Dunne, even more so if 2m transfer fee is true. That's money we can well use. Everyting around the deal makes sense for us and Dunne.
I don't think we can compare this with Hull selling Jarrod Bowen and going down. Different players playing very different roles in the team. Let's see how we manage with what we have now. Who knows, maybe a decent RB replacement is already lined up. |  | | |

I'm of the district opinion that some on here think all QPR have to do is put a contract on the table and the player will sign it.
No other factors exist and if the player doesn't sign, then QPR must have cocked up. Doesn't matter if the player wants to go, has a better offer, a bigger club is interested, personal reasons, we can't afford his demands, etc. because such factors don't exist. Ever. It's only ever about what QPR want. |

Being out of the squad, could also be explained by announcing his new long term extended contract with QPR before the Blackburn game.
Although we would know about this before as transfer window closes on Monday night.

If Dunne is going to Sheffield Utd it really is a surprise to me. A surprise if he wasn't wanted and we let him go or a surprise that he's decided himself to leave. Yes, there's the money. That's literally the only reason I can think he's decided to go.
Guaranteed that he will keep his flat in Chiswick and we'll still see him knocking about on the High Road now and again, because he absolutely loved living here. Aside from his form and ability, the problem with Dunne leaving is that he is the heartbeat of the squad. Must be a funny life being a footballer. How will he feel sitting on the bench for Sheff Utd? Playing against his old team at the Loft End?

Why would it be a surprise? Footballers come and footballers go. The days of Mr. <insert club> are well behind us. Any football player worth his salt has ambition to play at the highest level possible. Aside from higher wages, Sheffield United can offer the chance to play at the top end of the Championship and the possibility of PL football. If Jimmy were to take his opportunity, that could open up the door to more caps for his country.
Playing football is a short career and, at 27, Jimmy may not get another shot. Naturally, I hope he stays but I'm also realistic enough to recognise the reality of what's on offer. After serving QPR admirably for 4 years, Jimmy has earned the right to consider his options. | | | |

Maybe you're right mate and I'm letting emotions get in the way.
I don't know, still not sure I see it that way. The fact he only has 6 months left on his contract doesn't suggest it's a classic case of buying cheap and selling for a large profit. It's more a case of a situation that's come about where we just had to go for it due to a contract being run down. Nothing of a model about it at all.
And yes, £2m is a lot of money in the real world, but it's not major by any means. I'm sure the plan wasn't "let's get this promising young Irish defender in, keep him til 27 and then flog him in the form of his life when he is integral to the team, for 2m quid".
I met Jacob Reeves the other day, centre back who Hull sold for 15m. That is more like it.

That's an incredibly harsh statement Wegs. Robinson and Dunne are a million miles apart. Robinson absolutely shafted us after we looked after him through numerous injury setbacks. He couldn't wait to leave. Dunne has always left everything out on the pitch when he's played and he has genuinely loved playing here. The fact that he played a day after his dad died says so much about him as a person and as a player here. Robinson was a mercenary snake, something Dunne will never be. |  |
