January Transfer Thread 13:27 - Dec 23 with 34386 viewsKeithHaynes

Done some asking and Oli McBurnie is most certainly up for a loan back to the UK this window. I’ve been told four Championship clubs are interested. This will all fall on the fee’s involved plus he is on in the region of €36,000 a week. Big numbers but we know how these things can be negotiated.

Do we have the money ?
Yes.

P&S will need to be positive and only the club really know where we are with that at this moment in time, It won’t be massively healthy. Oli has played fourteen games for Las Palmas this season with no return. He has never been a prolific striker, but could he settle into Luke’s team ?

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

We can't flog Darling unless he agrees to be sold.
He may well want to go on a free and pocket a bigger signing on fee.

Which I think is what will happen.
Hedging his bets on Leeds getting promoted.
I wonder when his agent discovered Leeds were interested?
was this why he didn't sign despite all the whispers he was due to put pen to paper?

It is my opinion that if Darling his told he has played his last game for Swansea he will not hang around. It is a short career he can ot east half a season with offers on the table including Swansea s .

You would want us to freeze one of our best players out when we’ve only got two centre backs?

We’re safe from relegation at the moment. We won’t be if we end up playing Christie every game.

Your last paragraph is correct
Christie looks truly horrendous
Unfit for purpose
A waste of a loan

No he posts some good stuff.

He is mistaken on this one though he won't be the first or last player to leave on a free.

Been really good value for the club though.

Who else would you play there if we didn't have Christie. IMO the only other option is Naughton, it just shows how weak our squad is in certain areas.

When Darling went off injured against Derby he was on the bench and not trusted then, Christie took his place. Why he is on the bench I have no idea, clearly he is deemed not good enough.

Take no notice just says anything to get a reaction, Darling is probably the best centre back we've had for years, even when he first got here and he was making a mistake here and there, you could see it then, well those with footballing knowledge and sense could, when he goes he'll take some replacing.

God knows why we signed him, Williams talks about bringing in better than we have then the Swans signs Christie !

I’m having big problems with our manager every time he speaks.

Being fair, Christie was signed before the change in ownership and investment that has changed this.window quite a bit.
If the exchange of ownership was done in the summer then Christie wouldn't likely be here, Christie. Was brought in to serve a purpose to cover defence given. Pedersen was injured and Abbey wasn't filling the coaching staff with encouragement.

Apart from Cabango signing his contract I am yet to see any change with the current ownership regarding team investment. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will see change, but as I say so far nothing only talk.

Cullen and Cabango signed on with a real attempt to get Darling over the line but no joy to this point.

I regards to new signings, we won't have an idea until the window closes, it's a tough window but they really need to make a statement of intent at the least.

Cullen signed his new contract in October the new owners came in in November so can't be credited for Cullen extending his contract.

People say Darling should have been sold two years ago. Just like that. Two years ago he was not playing that well. So how would they have forced him out.?

By signing an alternative and dropping him to the bench for a few months before the window and telling him he was not in the managers plans. He would sit out a few mob nth and find a new club.

So what has changed. He is playing much better and at least three teams are interested. The same principle apply. Swansea sign Low and a loan player and drop Darling.

The club will tell him he is unwanted and bad for team spirit. He is a footballer and wants to play not be a sulking contract rebel. In my opinion he will accept one of the 2-3 offers that come in offering him a pay rise.

QPR did this with contract rebel Me Manning and Swansea coughed up £250k. Swansea recruitment look for these out of contract player to sign for a discount specifically. Manning was always running down his deal and there was no bidding war. There is a bidding war. Clubs can buy a £5m+ player for £1m. They would be mad not to let this chance get away. Market forces. Wycombe are doing the same with Low.

Coleman needs to show some mettle.

As you say signed on until the end of the season as a stop gap from a pool of out of contract players outside the xfer window.

Really need to get some of our youngsters up to speed because we are really going to need to look at gettimg in some new blood to even keep the quality of the squad up.

Allen, Naughton and Pedersen contracts up at the end of the season which may release some funds but will we be able to get enough quality in.
Even if Abdulai proves his potential this season he will only have another season left on his contract, similarly
if Ginnelly recovers to prove his worth by the end of this season he too is out of contract at the end ofthe following season,

Tymon and Key will only have a season left on their contracts in the summer, anybody know if there are extensions which could be triggered in these four's contracts because will we be in a situation of players running down contracts next season?
Fulton will be the same, season would we be looking too get rid next season to try and improve the middle of midfield as we do need another midfielder able to do both the defensive and attacking side there alongside Franco and at the very least better cover for him.

Given the number aged and njured players we need to use the rest of this season to ensure we have a stronger squad next season while looking at the contracts of players we need to keep.

Key signed a three year contract the summer of 2023 with a one year option. Tymon exactly the same. I still think they should trigger them early instead of getting in the bad feeling position of triggering them late. Better still sort out a new contract for them both.

So where does this leave us now?
Do we put in an offer for £1M
Do we nag Darling to sit down and make him a better offer
Do we know who our other CB targets are, surely we have others apart from Low though he first choice

We should spend the money on keeping Darling

I never see the point in freezing players out.

It’s normal for some players to want/need to move on from us. Especially when we pay pittance.

Many players are still fully committed to putting in 100% at all times.
These players, like Darling, should be allowed to do what makes them and their families happy, and we should support them with that.

IF Darling wants to leave, it’s not his fault.
The guy is happy here, with his family.
He has just got too good for our wage structure, which is nothing to do with him.

He had the makings of a good player when he came here, maybe Martin had too many centrebacks eventually with Woods, Cabango and Darling but at the end of the day none of them are naturally happy on the left side, if anybody out of the three were it was Woods, Darling ends up being in a quandary as to what is needed on the left at time especially alongside Tymon, alongside Naughton in the left fullback ppsition he knew one hundred percent that he needed to cover for Naughton's lack of pace so was very quick out to the left to close the through ball down with Tymon he doesn't make the decision to come across early enough at times but I'm nit picking and we would miss him.

No doubtinng his commitment and trying to freeze him out with no viable alternative seems stupid, phase him out but at the moment we do not have that option.
