Going to have to work hard to get back in the side.

Not going to get in ahead of Saito or Smyth for work-rate, and potentially productivity. By the time he is back might not get in ahead of Kolli for final product.

Nice dilemma to have !

I'm sure he'll be fine the way the injury list has been mounting up.

He gets in above those two, especially Smyth. Nothing against Smyth or Saito, but I still think he's our best player.

Not a straight swap but he'd have absolutely no issue getting in ahead of Smyth. Its not like Ilias doesn't have the work rate of Smyth, but he has the end product too.

Am not 100 % he gets an automatic place and in particular with having little match practice for a long time.

Hopefully though he adds team player to his box of tricks because this is what prevents him from being a much better performer than he otherwise should be, with his talent.

Saito has to stay in. Got a football brain and works hard in defence and attack. Smyth comes out of the team for me. Yes he has great pace and works hard tracking back but fed up with the final ball always being naff and falling over looking for free kicks when in promising positions

When fully fit he absolutely walks into the team. Why wouldn’t your best player be an automatic pick?

Chair on 23:24 - Dec 7 with 3044 viewsLogman

Because he doesn't quite fit what we are trying to do at the moment

Love Chair and have always thought we are worse without him. Today was one of the few games where I actually think, he would have unbalanced the starting XI.
If Chair starts, would like him to not take every set peice.

Will be a different conversation, if we struggle against Oxford, let's leave this one to Marti.

Lets be honest - chair walk backs in

Certainly not for saito who is great but smyth - as much as we love him has zero end product and I’m still shocked he’s a professional footballer with his lack of finishing and crossing abilities - and I hate myself saying this as he lives and breathes qpr and tries his absolute best

I thought I heard Andy Sinton mention it today Smyth has a bad habit of going to ground and trying to con the refs instead of battling through .
He works real hard but when he cocks back that left leg to cross the ball we can get up and make a sandwich no goal is coming

Smyth wins us quite a few free kicks, corners and throws in dangerous positions with his pace and tricks apart from sometimes getting in a decent cross.

Thing is Smyth works down the right. But Saito and Chair produce from the left. Based on what we've seen so far Saito is much weaker on the right side, and I can't recall ever having noticed Ilias doing much over there either. I'd have him play deeper and more central, that way we might be able play all three of them.

Chair on 06:38 - Dec 8 with 2594 viewsNed_Kennedys

Based on his performances earlier in the season when clearly off the pace I’d not rush him back at all and get him up to match fitness in Development Team games first. Would be a bad move to drop Saito for him as well.

I'd leave Saito where he is and start to introduce Illy in Madsen's position.

Keep him central and let him link up with Saito, which I think could be great.

The stand ins are starting to shape up like first teamers just as the first teamers are getting fit again!

I too would like to see Chair tried out in the 10 position but the obvious issue would be the lack of height across those three forwards. Madsen doesn't really use his height but having a 6' 4" body in there still has some advantages.

Agree you do loose that height, to the extent that Madsen manages to use it (a bit better yesterday I thought).

With Kolli in and Michi hopefully coming back you do have more of a focal point though, than Celar.

And what's going on with Colback? Thought he might have been on the bench yesterday but no sign still.

Kolli looks like he offers better hold up play than Celar, which could be useful with Chair behind him in the middle of the three.

I don't think we can completely compare the two based on one admittedly very good performance yesterday. Although Kolli did very well only two teams have let in more goals this season than Norwich as well as Norwich being much worse away from home. I thought their defence was poor, allowing us more space and not doubling up on our players as much as other teams do, suggesting their attackers don't help out enough at the back. Normally Celar's playing against two CBs and gets nowhere near the space Kolli had yesterday.

I'd like to see him play against better defences before being entirely sure of his hold up play.

Chair will be a big plus when he gets back to full fitness but he needs to work harder on the defensive side of his game . Smtyh has his faults but since he’s come back in to the team his work rate has contributed to the raft of clean sheets we’ve kept as has Saito .

Same. Chair simply walks into this team - the only issue is how we set up when he’s back. Him and Saito both prefer to operate on the left wing so I’d recommend rotating the pair of them between there and the number 10. For all his many faults, Smyth can stay on the right and drop Madsen.

Either way, the good thing with our squad players starting to come good a bit recently is that we don’t need to rush Chair straight into the team when he’s back. He definitely came back half fit last time and it wasn’t good for either him or us

Shit but local

I don't disagree that Chair goes straight back in the team.

Not so much yesterday but away at Watford there were a few moments where we got great opportunities and I thought that it wouldn't have happened if he'd been on the pitch as it was based on winning the ball and playing quick, incisive balls forward which is not one Ilias's fortes as a player. Of course he'd likely have created other different opportunities had he been playing.

In the current team we do seem to have players (at least in the last two games) who will make those quick darts forward that have been sorely lacking in recent years. It will be interesting to see if he can play a little quicker within this system.

Chair does something that none of the others can do.

When you give him the ball again and again, he gets you out from the press, which means you can get the ball up to the final third.

In the past we just gave it to Chair and Willock and this got into the final third and out from balls being flung back at our defence for 90 mins. Problem was they both took too long to do anything with it and the oppo defence got back quick.

Over time Chair started playing in balls fast in attack, even Willock would take on his man and cross quicker by the end.

Saito is starting to do this, he's not quite there yet. But he's proving a possible outlet on the left compared to our right side of Dunne's header on or Cooks ball over the top for Smyth to run onto, which is aspirational in its effectiveness.

I quite like the idea of Saito at LB when Chair comes back. He would need help in that position, but attacking wise it would cause major problems for the oppo.

Or, Chair is in the middle, with Saito on the left and Smyth (Dembele) on the right. This means Madsen would be dropped, but I can live with that for the upside of a more creative attack (which we still need). Then these three can rotate across the pitch, creating even more havoc for the oppo. Dembele draws the oppo LB infield, creating space for the Chair to nip in behind, or even the Chair goes left, and Saito does the same. That should create the spaces we need.

zzzzzzzzzz

Chair like any other player should be earning his place back in the team which means good performances from the bench making a difference putting in some assists and then goals.

For me Chair has always been better down the left than in the middle so he and Saito should be fighting that out and with the fixture pile up coming possible rotating but the shirt is Saito's for now
