Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 15:41 - Feb 6 by tony_roch975 | what tactic do you suggest - sniper or bomb? |
A midfield shield that stops the ball into Aneke and making him think twice about dropping off, something Shaughnessy could have done. Similar happened against Gillingham and it was spotted immediately then too.

Thought they had a good shout for a penalty to be fair, didn't mind that bit of inconsistency....
Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 15:52 - Feb 6 with 1791 views | funkkk | Utterly depressing first half. Midfield non existent. Zero threat apart from hoping Baah can beat four men and lash one in.

No chance - Miller just dived in the box. Although it worked for Martial in midweek.

2-0 at HT and they will be kicking themselves that it's not more. I think they hit the woodwork 4 times ( inc 2nd Goal) and Bazunu has made a few good saves too. Charlton easily the best team I've seen at our place this year. Strong wind behind in the second half so an early goal could make a difference although can't see it really. Chance to give some of the new lads a 30 minute or so run out
Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 15:53 - Feb 6 with 1738 views | Dalenet | Need to bring some changes second half. Charlton may be the stronger team but we look lost and give them the opportunity with almost every pass. If we don't get at them as we did at their place in the first 10 minutes this could be another 4 or 5 nil game.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 15:43 - Feb 6 by 442Dale | Midfield two aren’t involved enough and Lund may as well drop deeper to at least make them think. Definitely need to make changes. |
God knows what the new signings think they've signed up to, but those changes need to be made at half time, not with 10-15 minutes left Shaunessey for Dooley, push Morley forward, for starters

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 15:53 - Feb 6 with 1729 views | SaxonDale | Think BBM got his initial selection wrong- as others have said it's obvious that we were crying out this first half for Shaunessy to block the ball into their front 2. Charlton seem a very good team to be fair and have suffocated us for much of the game- we can't get out of our third and when we do they're giving niggling fouls which the referee hasn't punished. Second half would look at bringing on Vale/ Grant for Dooley and having 2 playing off Lund if the wind carries on assisting us. Could also see Morley coming off.
Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 15:58 - Feb 6 with 1630 views | milnrowblue | Not sure 442 suits us against better sides as we need that extra man at the back - Shaughnessy on for Dooley in this case. Just a side note, has there been a time this season where that Morely ball from kick off has worked? He’s a fantastic passer but I can’t remember one time where it’s lead to something.
Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 15:59 - Feb 6 with 1589 views | IOMDale | As frustrating (and depressing) as that first half was to watch, Charlton have been very, very good. If things continue like this second half, they’ll stick at least four on us. Cannot understand why we persist in playing high balls forward - everything is getting swallowed by their defence with ease. Jason Pearce may as well be Velcroed to Humphrys, he’s taking man-marking to a whole new level. Charlton are getting the ball into their forwards far too easily so we’ll probably see Shaughnessy introduced as the ‘sitter’ - maybe Vale for Dooley too? He looks like quite a big lad and we need all the extra physicality we can muster. [Post edited 6 Feb 2021 16:01]

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 15:36 - Feb 6 by tony_roch975 | rubbish - give some credit to the opposition. Charlton are the best side I've seen this season - very strong & physical and pacy (outmuscled Humphrys) |
It's hard to judge the oppositions quality when we've been sooooo poor. No one is competing, we aren't passing the ball, our shape is non existant. They should be 5-0 up. We are lucky to be still in it. BBM needs to make changes and give em a rocket at ht. [Post edited 6 Feb 2021 16:01]

Nooooo don't give Charlton any credit. A team of one legged baboons could beat this lot. But seriously folks why oh why can we not cope with teams that press. [Post edited 6 Feb 2021 16:09]

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 16:02 - Feb 6 with 1541 views | dawlishdale | That's as big a gap between two sides as I've seen for a good few years. They could (and should) be 4 ahead of us now. so; well done Charlton, but blimey...we make it easy for teams at COA. Way too much space afforded and we really struggle against any sort of pace or physicality against us. First goal is poor defending from Osho and O'connell, both gave their man too much space to turn. Recall some giving Rathbone and Roberts dogs abuse for a similar goal recently. Second goal is another whopping blunder from O'Connell. everyone else pushes out, and he stays on the line playing them onside. Ref missed an absolute stonewall penalty when Lund challenged very clumsily in the box, and then they had a goal bound shot deflected onto the bar and over. Men against boys so far. We actually look weaker with this central defensive pairing than with Osho and Roberts. Perhaps we've rushed the captain back? Even his normally assured passing is way out today. I honestly can't think of a single Dale player who has had a good game...possibly Morley has done ok so far. Our home form is absolutely laughable I'm afraid. Come on Dale...get a goal back early on, and apply some sort of pressure on them...anything.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 16:06 - Feb 6 with 1445 views | tony_roch975 | No shape - midfield too far apart, Lund and Rathbone for me are worst culprits but not sure trying to park the bus now will work; 3 at the back would give better midfield shape.
