Is Andy Murray dead? on 18:06 - Jan 11 with 4795 views | Johnw102 | Andy Murray forced to retire through injury, main news on TV. What about all the Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Paramedics and Nurses that have been forced to retire through injury, without his £millions behind them? Spare your tears for them.

Is Andy Murray dead? on 18:13 - Jan 11 with 4771 views | Jackfath | It's not Andy Murray's fault the media are using his "story" to mask the utter disgrace that is going on right under our noses regarding the future of this country. The population are too thick to see that's why it's headline news though.

Is Andy Murray dead? on 18:20 - Jan 11 with 4765 views | sainthelens | Been a fantastic sportsman for this country. But anyone who remotely follows tennis will know he's been "finished" for a while. Agree it is insulting everybody that it should be headline news. As JF commented, far bigger issues regarding future of UK .

In part I imagine the BBC will be following social media trends to see what topic’s popular. People genuinely want to follow this sort of stuff, cult of the celebrity and all that. You’re right though - they should be reporting on and challenging a lot of the nonsense going on rather than being clickbait driven like everyone else.

Exactly. The BBC follows editorial guidelines when it comes to prioritizing and presenting “news” though, depending on the time of day. I presume it’s Friday early evening and it was decided to kick off with a human interest story to cocoon the viewers after a busy/stressful week. [Post edited 11 Jan 2019 18:32]

In recent years hard news has been either dumbed down, given far lesser priority than what is deserved, or ignored completely......The trouble is modern celebrity and the cult of has infiltrated all news, press and media streams. The likes of the Beckhams, Simon Fuller/Svengali type managers, press manipulators, and press agents have been responsible for feeding a frenzy encompassing complete and utter trivial bullsh1t.

Is Andy Murray dead? on 19:04 - Jan 11 with 4652 views | dickythorpe | I never thought a Brit would win Wimbledon. He did. He should cheer up though!! As alluded to above he'll never have to worry about money again, plus hopefully his mother will now not be hanging on his every move and trying to live her failed playing career through him.

Valid point there, its as if the papers had to find alternative subject material to fill the void that Diana left when it came to filling up newspaper space. The newspapers/press/media then focussed on 'celebrity' and saw it as an alternative to Diana. And the vacuous, attention seeking drivel arrived in spades i.e. The Beckhams sitting on golden thrones at their wedding ceremony, other nonentities becoming stars courtesy of being married to a footballer, reality TV stars, Katie 'Jordan' Price.... etc. And then came celeb descriptives/headlines in droves. Going to "rehab", suffering from "mental exhaustion" or some female celeb being either anorexic or bulimic and going through "eating disorder hell" with trips to the Priory Clinic....Lost count the number of cancer scares these celebs tend to get also.... And all in Hello Magazine or front page of The Sun.

Is Andy Murray dead? on 12:22 - Jan 12 with 4137 views | Cooperman | He is clearly devastated that this is not ending on his terms and based on what I have seen in the press he isn't going to make it to Wimbeldon. Tennis fans might want to pay attention to what goes in in Australia as this may well be the end of Sir Andy Murray. Nobody will come close to raising the hopes of British tennis fans for a very long time and we should be extrmely proud of his accomplishments - the Grand Slams, Wimbeldon in particular, Olympic titles, driving Britain to Davis Cup success and so on. Well done Sir Andy, enjoy your retirement whenever it does arrive.

That’s a silly comment. If everything you had strived for in your career quickly disappeared in front of your eyes would you not be emotional? And don’t play the ‘he’s loaded’ card as monetary gain is very clearly of secondary importance to him.
