Cardiff will not stop until they have stolen everything Wales has on 11:59 - Nov 17 by Catullus | Of course Cardiff is growing a lot, isn't that kind of the gist of this thread? Cardiff airport, living in the East of Swansea it took me about an hour to drive there for a 6am flight to Spain, there was no rush, no long queues for parking or at check in...in fact there was no queue at all at check in and our flight wasn't full. Going through security was quick and easy but what should be an upside is also the downside, it was empty, as a business it's not viable without the WG propping it up and I too would happily drive to Bristol or London for my flight if that money was spent on healthcare instead. You go to any other international airport and they are busy 24/7. Why do we prop up a private business when our public services are being cut? Is it because Cardiff must have? Is it because it's handy for the WG people to fly from? It's certainly not better for Wales. Perhaps it's time (or well past time) we have a new political party in Wales. A party for Wales that's not Plaid, a party that will look after and act in the best interests of all Wales and not just the South East corner. Hell, even Cardiff City have benefitted from WG charity, cheap land wasn't it. Talking of land, another 7 million wasted, https://www.walesonline.co.uk/business/commercial-property/prime-land-site-acqui |
There already is a political party in Wales that has been created to put the best interests of ALL of Wales at the forefront. That party is called Ein Gwlad. It is very small at the moment but we don't have any rich backers to promote us via our so called Welsh Media.

Is it because Cardiff must have you say? I’m sure it’s for all of south and west wales like Bristol is for the West Country and Devon Cornwall etc...it’s a bit chicken and egg, invest and see if the people will come? Let it go and then we all travel to Bristol or London anyway. Sounds a bit like all services being cut and centralising them, where do I ever hear that constantly in here moaning about losing this and that to the capital? Maybe the money as you say could be invested better but they just pi$$$ it all up the wall somewhere else so what’s the diff...Cardiff also has far far more big events than Bristol, which in comparison has none at all. I mean have they even got a decent football club ffs....

And you’re Fascist too in the eyes of Plaid’s odder balls and the Shemales of Momentum. Raising the spectre of Saunders, taking a Syncretic stance has made them cry. Real tears they are as well, all smudged mascara and snot.

Wales needs a decent airport ffs, just because we let a French company run the business almost into the ground doesn't mean we should just let it disappear do we? It needs investment and more carriers then it will easily be as good as Bristol. |
Agree with you on this one, Wales needs Cardiff Airport, that's where I always fly from if possible.

I've not met any of these 'Plaid odder balls' nor the 'shemales' of Momentum but the only reason off hand I can think as to why they would say that is because they're afraid we may take away some of their voters so they just try to put us down with no real thought other than self preservation. This an argument you won't win with people outside the South East mate. We have seen Cardiff turn things down only to then have them after other places build them. The olympic pool to start with, our new arena which means now Cardiff wants a bigger arena. Medical services being taken from elsewhere and centralised in Cardiff, local councils getting cuts forced on them except Cardiff was the only council to get a raise and the first thing Cardiff didn't want but had to have, the Welsh Assembly as was. For all it's bluster Labour in Wales is treating us exactly the same as the Tories are treating the North of England, or anywhere not in their S.E. corner really. If Drakeford wins he'd do well to remember where he's from and do some worthwhile investing outside the S.E. corner. Not that I'd vote for him, I'd choose Morgan, she's got bigger balls than him, but then, maybe that'd not be a good thing either.

Cardiff will not stop until they have stolen everything Wales has on 16:04 - Nov 17 by Catullus | Bristol used to be awkward to get to and parking was a nightmare, done a lot of upgrading have they? A better plan, joined up if expensive would have been to put the National stadium AND airport fairly close together on a greenfield site with railway and motorway links. Rhoose could have had a housing development, where the principality is now could have developed too. |
It did yes. Not anymore. Parking is also not an issue. Not going to argue with your second paragraph though as in principle that is exactly what should have happened. But it’s also fair to say that visiting the millennium stadium and enjoy the pre match festivities is made pretty good by its location. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I live in West Wales and agree with a lot of what you are saying. In terms of health, I was talking to someone working in the medical profession and they were saying that West Wales including Carmarthenshire and Pembs struggle to recruit doctors and consultants, basically all the youngsters want to work in the big hospitals where there is a lot of research, training and more advanced treatment being taken, some of this centres around the teaching hospitals. Some of the North Wales hospitals are part of a “cluster” focussed on Stoke which i believe specialises in A and E medicine, staff from Stoke then go it to the affiliated hospitals and work with local staff to improve standards of patient care. For me, resources and specialisms need to be shared and staff across the major hospitals in Wales need to work together to drive up standards across the board.

Well what's really needed in Wales is a party that has interest in the whole of Wales but has no appetite for independence. It seems no Welsh party can form without the dreaded I word being touted about. It's always been at the heart of PC which has prevented many people voting for them, even as a protest vote. They've done their best, maybe, to hide it hoping votes would come and then if they did, slap it on the table.

Bristol airport is still a nightmare to get too, the free bus from temple meads is the only good thing about it. You can park right next to Cardiff airport too. Qatar are also one of the best airlines I’ve ever flown with, if you like going east, there’s no better. We should embrace it, or lump it and go from the nightmare that is Gatwick again, like I recently had too.

I would embrace if it wasn’t propped up with public money and had flights to places I regularly travel. Not sure when the last time you travelled from Bristol airport but the roads have been improved over the last few years. Plenty of parking, parking services and accommodation. Plus, if Cardiff was half as busy as Bristol airport you wouldn’t be parking next to it!

We would all like to think that the Welsh Labour Mantra of "what's good for Cardiff -is good for Wales" will die a death, as more and more people outside of Cardiff and the SE eventually get a grasp of what's been going on over recent years hits home, but in reality I'm not so sure. If you think about it, the Labour WAG have put so much money and emphasis into cardiff succeeding, that they are hardly likely to detour now, for being criticised over a failed and polarised policy. Hopefully, a new party will come to the fore to fill the vacuum and redress the balance, in terms of equal funding and investment distributed throughout Wales.

Bristol has been developed and there are new roads and parking on close by, but it is a pain to get to. I would like to have seen the road to Cardiff airport duelled all the way through and some decent links to the city, but that is some way off if ever. My cousin recently returned from Australia and was glowing in her praise of Qatar airlines. I have never flown with them, but if they are anything like their competitors on the Middle and Far East routes like Emirates, Malaysian and Singapore airlines they will have high standards and be very competitive. Flying from Cardiff saves time and money when compared to flying from London. In terms of European flight though, Bristol is much cheaper and has a bigger selection of destinations. Would love to see Easy Jet and some of the other budget airlines go from Cardiff.

The first sentence is right AND wrong in my opinion. Ein Gwlad is being set up a a 'Whole of Wales' party but for Independence. You're right in saying that Plaid appeared to be hiding their Indy hopes over a long time now, perhaps to gain votes which they may not otherwise have won. In anything you may read about Ein Gwlad Independence will be front and centre. No equivocation.

It's the need for independence that put a lot od us off. Most Welsh people aren't interested, if they were Plaid would have done a lot better. You can produce poll saying whatever you want but the ballott box shows the lack of support for indy. We need a party that does it's best for all of Wales and will only look at independence when there is a real, sizeable support for it. As for the other commenst on airlines, I flew Singapore from Zurich to Moscow and they were the dogs danglies, smaller plane but more room, more comfortable and great service, the air attendants were all gorgeous too!!

Rhoose is a decent enough Airport but it has lost the battle to Bristol. It is now just another Cardiff White elephant that is going to take even more of our hard earned taxes. It should become a regional airport with links to the main hubs ( London, Dublin, Amsterdam etc) and more such airports need to be opened up across Wales. A Cardiff Airport was never going to serve Wales anyway. It is geographically unsuitable and our complete lack of transport infastructure means whole swathes of the Nation can't reach it and have far nearer alternatives. Time to cut and run.

It’s is becoming more of a hub, klm to Amsterdam is one and now Doha with Qatar is another. There is a train line just over a mile from the airport, which would be a key link in my opinion. The M4 or A48 is also fairly close. The only reason it’s so far behind Bristol is due to the previous owners running it into the ground. It’s at least 10 years behind but we will see how it goes in the next 10 I guess. The population of Cardiff won’t be far behind that of Bristol in 15 years. As ever, we are let down by the surrounding areas, dragging us back down to there level which must be 25 years behind in every way. A nice wall around the city with tolls to get in would be a nice start, a new bridge on a barrage linking Cardiff and Bristol direct will be the cherry on the cake.

"Their" level old fella, and yes a wall is a great idea but to keep you all in!! You'll need Rhoose then to get anywhere. We can go with my previous suggestion then, a new national stadium, airport with train and motorway links put somewhere much more useful. All we need to do then is to get people to deselect Labour for a really useful party and Wales is sorted. Fantasy Island/PlanetSwans, it's all the same thing really!

Ah ha! The Country of Cardiff. I would vote for that and rid us of the money sucking boil on the ass of Wales. Why should putting forward an argument for Independence put you off ? Because we argue for it doesn't mean it's going to happen any time soon. We know that as much as anyone. If Ein Gwlad managed to get an AM or two elected at the next WAG election it wouldn't change anything. Things would only change when there is a sizeable support for it (as you say). If that sizeable support translated into a majority in the Sennedd then that's different. In the meantime, when people like me, and many others, debunk the financial argument that people believe means Wales couldn't afford to be Independent, just take the points in and accept them if they make sense to you. Or point out if they don't make sense.
