Carlos came here like a breath of fresh air, got us playing bravely, with belief and loads of fighting spirit. Jordan Ayew was on goal scoring form and things looked good. But after his 3 match suspension, combined with Carlos becoming ultra defensive, playing timidly instead of bravely, the players became deflated and their confidence all but disappeared.

The only hope I can see of us staying up would be if the players take it on themselves to play as they want, to go for it and play the football that is more suited to us. But that's not going to happen, so at the moment I can't even see us getting a win against Stoke.

Now we know why Sheffield let him go. Here are some forum messages from their fans:

************

It's clear to most people that following his first season there was a shift in style to something that was less attractive. Clearly, the hope here was that in being a little less cavalier and a bit more conservative we might pinch a few more points. You can't say this didn't work because the league table says it did. I doubt you would find anyone on here that would even start to defend the Huddersfield Playoffs. CC managed to get this wrong over both legs, he handed the initiative to an inferior team and fell into a trap many other coaches have, fear took over. This was a failing, probably the first one that had any real impact on us up to that point, some two years into his tenure

-----------

There were no excuses. Huddersfield were eminently beatable in both legs but CC bottled it.

When you look at the sides in the playoffs this season and how poor Reading subsequently were and are, it was a massive opportunity lost

----

Totally negative tactics from CC in both legs cost us big time.

-------

The first season was great. Really good, attacking football. We beat Arsenal 3-0 in the cup and got to the playoff final.

The second season, with an improved squad, he started playing really defensive, negative, boring football. In the second leg of the playoff semi against Huddersfield (at home), he packed 3 central midfielders into the midfield 4 (he'd done that a lot - picking his favorites instead of the best team), got everyone behind the ball and played for a draw, instead of going for it. We were at home and the game was there for the taking, and it massively backfired and we lost. He should have walked after that.

-----

Give it a season, then he'll start putting 10 men behind the ball and going out not to lose instead of trying to win games just like he did with us. When he's still rolling out the analogies and you're stuck watching that shit, it gets really, really old. Enjoy him while you can.

We know we are a poor team but

We have lost the most games - 20
Not scoring in 18 games
Only scoring 27 in 37 games (7 came in 2 games so 20 from the other 35)
Apart from the 2 bonus wins against Liverpool and Arsenal we have won 6 games against other teams in our ‘league’
Palace and Watford away
Huddersfield WBA Burnley & WHU at home
Really makes depressing reading

In the beginning I thought they were just bitter.
Now it is us who have the bitter aftertaste.
I still feel we'll stay up Sunday, but should have been secured weeks ago

He’s not the answer...we need a COMPLETE overhaul in the close season....but there’ll be no one left to do it.

Next Monday should see HJ and Carlos and his band leaving, get a new DOF and manager and assistants in.
Then on Tuesday ....

Whatever you say, he got us 21 points in half a season. Cant really have a dig at him. Just had too much to do.

Its just a ride.

With a pretty poor unbalanced squad

Problem is, since the West Ham game, he seems to have run out of ideas and is placing all his faith in a five man defence.
Shame, as we should have been over the line by now.

Carlos lost his bottle plain and simple .

Never quite had the courage to see it through and I think he will regret that for a long time, seeing him last night he knew he fooked it all up .

There we go our luck finally seems to have run out .

There's nothing wrong with playing 3/5 at the back, it's the quality of your full/wingbacks constitutes how it's going to work.

Mark Hughes has saved Southampton by going to 3/5 at the back, but they have the wingbacks to play that system.

Everyday above ground ... Is a good day! 😎

Southampton are a rubbish side, who are lucky we have not managed to recapture the form we showed in the early days of Carlos' tenure.
Don't kid yourself Hughes is a master tactician with a brilliant squad.

Look at how many teams play with 3/5 at the back, but with the right players to play that system.

Yep Southampton are shite, but the change in formation gained them 7 points in the last 3 games, us sadly f*ck all.I

A nice bloke but nice doesn't get you very far. Jokanovic was the better option but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Irrespective of what division we are in next year, we need a manager that can facilitate passing football. Without this our identity is gone.

.........Steve and Jason are delighted to announce the appointment of Huw Jenkins as first team coach. Speaking on the appointment Jason Levien said "we're delighted that Huw has agree to become coach. He knows the club inside out and the time is right for him to step up after learning his trade as the Director of Soccer. We're convinced Huw is the right man to get our team fighting in all four quarters".
