If by "best" you mean least worst then I agree. Any bet where the edge is against you, no matter how small, is never a good bet.

Then you’re a dull boy. Gambling is meant to be fun. That’s why I love craps - terrific game. And anyway, the best bets i’m referring to have no house edge.

I am dull for stating the fact that any bet where you have more value chance of losing than winning is not a good bet? Interesting theory, up there with Trampies. If fun is what you are seeking and find it in table games, then great. But the fun factor is not what the discussion is about, it is about edge and profitability. The lowest edge you can get to on a craps table is 1.4% in the house favour. (Unless you make an odds bet, but that is essentially betting on heads or tails. No edge for the player and a waste of time profitability wise). [Post edited 4 Feb 2018 14:48]

Ok, maybe boring is a better word. But craps is a complicated game in terms of the bets you make. If you don’t know how to play it and resort to googling, then you will come up with comments like you just did about the lowest house edge being 1.4%. So this has been helpful discussion. Google is not always your friend. Ah - then you made the edit and added “Unless you make an odds bet, but that is essentially betting on heads or tails. No edge for the player and a waste of time profitability wise”. So now I know for absolute sure you don’t know what you’re talking about. The odds bet is the best bet in the casino. It’s the only one where the house pays out the genuine odds of an outcome, with no edge or commission. It’s nothing like heads or tails. [Post edited 4 Feb 2018 14:55]

Boring, dull, sensible - any word is fine. But it hardly attributes a response to what the discussion is about. It is not about the thrill of table games, it is about profitability and edge as I told you in the last post. Craps is not really a complicated game, no table games are. My profession suggests I will know this and do not need to resort to googling. I work for a multi billion pound organisation than owns two global casinos. If you think you have an edge by betting odds bets on a craps table then the only thing I can do is tell you that you don't. You could be at the table for a million years non stop, making odds bets at times the table situation "favours" it - yet your expected earnings from that after a million years would be zero. Some people think they know these games, think they know how to win, but the fact is they dont, which is why my company is worth 4 billion pounds.

Reply to your edit. Do you know what genuine odds are? Do you know the meaning of that? Heads or tails is a genuine 50:50. Betting odds bets on the craps table is EXACTLY like playing heads or tails with a mate. As I toldd you, you could play forever picking your favourite side of coin - your expected earnings at any point in time would be zero. No edge. Genuine odds. No commission... Still no profit. Which bit of that makes you think that "no edge" means you will win?

A couple of strawmen in there my friend. I never said craps gave you an edge over the house. I just said the house didn’t have an edge on it either - hence my comment that it is the best bet in the house. The rest of what you wrote is just noise and a poor effort at deflection.

No strawmen at all, I responded to every single point you made, if my replies were strawman then that means your initial comments were. Yes you said they were the best bet in the house, I correctly told you that you should say least worst, rather than best. By saying they are the "best" in a discussion about profitability would surely means it is profitable? Having no edge means it is a pointless bet not a good one - you are then crossing into the fun territory, which again is not what this discussion is about.

So what do you mean by best bets then? I told you correctly that any bet that does not have an edge in your favour, is not a good bet. It means the expected profitability for any bet from 0% edge to infinity minus edge means that your expected winnings at any point in time range from zero to infinity minus. So in a discussion about profitability and edge, can you explain why you fee a bet with an expected profitability of zero - is a good one please.

Best means there is no better bet in the casino. I would have thought that was obvious. Craps is a very difficult game to pick up from reading a web page, you kinda need someone to show you the ropes the first time. Google doesn’t help. That’s why I brought it up. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Well that is incorrect, no better bet on the house v punter table games at a casino would be more accurate. But still not accurate as you appeared to disagree with my deduction that we should change "best" to least worst. You have jumped on here thinking you could make a splash without realising that what you are saying defies logic. I think your basic grasp of table games led you to believe betting on certain things on the craps table were smart bets. I am sure you have now realised otherwise and will get all uppity. You can scream google til the cows come home Mr Wobble. You are essentially telling us that a bet with zero % edge is a good one - maths tells you that you are wrong, google will tell youthat you are wrong and I am telling you that you are wrong.... accuse maths of googling if it helps - but it wont change anything. You will still be wrong. [Post edited 4 Feb 2018 15:22]

I think you might have been better off just saying it’s not a game you know how to play, rather than pretending and continually digging. That would have been the, er, smart bet.

"My profession suggests I will know this and do not need to resort to googling. I work for a multi billion pound organisation than owns two global casinos." They don't own any casinos do they? Online ones, yes, but that's different. I thought they had to shut their casinos down? Anyway, that bit is irrelevant. I worked for Rank twenty odd years ago when the company actually did own casinos (all the Grosvenor casinos) and I didn't have (nor do I have now) a clue how to play craps. Very few people that work for companies that have casinos play, not least because you're not allowed to.
