Have the Americans spent any money? 12:29 - Jul 23 with 12533 viewsdeanscfc

Last season, if i remember correctly, we were the only team to make a net profit on transfers with the Americans refusing to put their hand in their pockets. As a result we struggled and would have gone down were it not for a couple of key players.

If rumors are anything to go by it now seems that we may be willing to sell those key players for a price so that yet again the Americans can make a nice little profit and the expense of the club and the fans. Last year they will have had a scare but in the end were able to make a nice return on their investment with some of the sky money. I can't help thinking that unless we both keep our key players AND spend in key areas that the Americans are starting to take the p*ss...

The Americans /new owners have spent money, but as far as I can see its money that's been generated by the club/sales as opposed to coming from their personal wealth, and to be honest I didn't envisage it being any thing other than this. If they owned 100% of the club I still thing that's what would have happened.

They purchased the club to make a profit on its sale at some time in the future. To do that they need to ensure that the club remains successful, which I would take to mean staying in the Premier League and accessing the TV money and increasing the commercial revenue streams. So far so good, relegation avoided last year and Chris Pearlman in place to improve the commercial stuff. Going forward they need to avoid relegation, to do that they need to strengthen the weaknesses in squad, they also need to keep an ambitious young manager on side whilst balencing the books. The easiest way to balence the books is to move on the very valuable assets, such as GS and reinvest the proceeds in the playing squad. I don't think they can afford to take a great deal of money out of the club as there are quite a few positions which need strengthening and if too much is taken out it could come tumbling down like a house of cards. The key to long term sustainability will be a good manager and an excellent scouting /recruiting team like the one at Southampton where good players are bought in and sold on for big profits.

DC United is the American franchise, they are currently bottom of their league. If they want to flip the club on for big money, then they can't allow Swansea City to be in this position come next May.

Huw Jenkins and some of the old board still have a decent size shareholding worth quite a lot of money in the club. To me this suggests they have some faith in what the new owners are trying to do; as they have a sizeable chunk of their personal wealth at stake they will also want it to and work hard for it to succeed. Swansea and the surrounding area needs Swansea City to be successful, the exposure the City gets will hopefully assist in attracting investment and jobs to the area.

Edit. Last paragraph.

I have to disagree, unless you mean that there are a lot of very deluded people out there. I find the views of people who post on this forum to be in a minority

Many that I work with bought into the next level bs. Most don't understand why we have new owners but the squad has not been overhauled. They don't get what our majority owners are about and still trust in our chairman.

The sell outs and new majority owners got their spin out with the aid of a non-invesigative press that didn't look behind the next level bs. That spin has only been challenged on forums which the majority don't visit. They get their information from the press and repeat it in pubs clubs and workplaces across the area.

They are doing a good job of balancing the transfer books at the moment as there are players to move on. I assume sigurdsson will be off, probably llorente to. It is how they are replaced that is important.

That only leaves Mawson in my eyes as a coveted player at the moment. Depends on how the transfermoney we get in is spent but the names we are currently linked with may not have huge sell on value. Unless our acquisitions are much better than they have been it isn't sustainable over more than a couple of seasons. I expect them to try and improve the commercial side then flip within a couple of years.

Yeah sorry, I meant on here. Should have made that clear.

I've no doubt that plenty of people in Swansea bought the investment line. Some of them still think Huw Jenkins walks on water.

They've made nothing but profit.
And are about to get half their investment back in one transfer.
Fcking eyes wide open.

Too right, sell 2 players now, pocket the sky cash and then say we still need to sell to break even.
Just what the big nosed one was doing really but new faces at the top. It almost went tits up last season and I have no doubt it will in the next few years.....

They haven't got no money to spend. Chancers who got the backing from unknowns to buy the club. They will sift off money for a year or two, then sell for a profit.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Sell for a profit? The only way the value of the club can go up if there is some way they can generate larger profits in the next few years. I can't really see how they do that and safely remain in the Premier League.

The only way they can 'invest' by sticking in their own cash is to buy players cheap and hope they increase in value. Mawson was certainly a good investment as there's a fair chance he cold be sold on within a few years for £20m profit.

It would certainly be interesting to ask Huw if this is exactly what taking us to the next level was what he envisaged and the only reason why he sold up in such a lovely way. I guess it's something we can ask him when he reveals all before the season starts like he promised during the run in last season.

It's a football website, not poets corner. Is that how you speak to your mates in the pub? I have no idea what pollyannaish means, I'm going to take an educated guess at naive or optimistic.

If that's the case, I'll take it on the chin, but don't get all pissy next time I call one of your football opinions naive or simplistic.

The two blokes, Kaplan and Levian (sorry for spelling errors), are employees of SCFC business. Why would they want to put their wages into a football club?

Their PR machine was spearheaded by Chris Wathan who certainly talked about direct investment and access to funds.

Maybe I'm missing something but there's no direct quotes from the owners in that article relating to direct investment?
