Lady Nugee strikes again! 13:23 - Apr 24 with 4821 viewsblueytheblue

Who says Corbyn's rich shadow cabinet aren't down with the proles?

Lady Nugee on LBC was talking about the effect of VAT on middle incomes.

“Things like VAT are things that people on average incomes are hardest hit — we all have to buy milk.”

Sadly for Lady Nugee, milk is zero rated. As in, there's no VAT payable on milk.

No, none of those pesky elites in Corbyn's cabinet!

Almost as big a gaffe as Hammond saying he couldn't guarantee not to raise taxes post election, eh, Bluey?

These elites live in their own little, wealthy bubble, totally out of touch with the poor constituents they claim to represent.

If people think Labour can do anything with VAT then they are gullible fools.

Its all just talk.

Hardly.

Hammond rightly not committing to something.

That's completely different to somebody showing utter ignorance whilst attempting to empathise with "ordinary" people...

Lady Nugee, alias Emily Thornberry: "Born in July 1960, Emily Thornberry was raised on a council estate outside Guildford by her mother, a teacher and Labour councillor, after her parents divorced when she was seven. ... She failed the 11-plus exam, went to a secondary modern and had to do courses to get enough A-levels to go to Kent University, where she read law and met her husband Christopher Nugee, who is now a high court judge."

typical childish Tories using something small and petty to try and take the attention off the topic in hand. Let's not forget the shocking mess they made of the national insurance rise for the self employed. If the chancellor and prime minister don't know what's in their manifesto then what hope have they got long term.

You missed out her father was an international lawyer / visiting professor at King's College who went on to become a UN assistant secretary general, later working as a consultant for NATO. The bit you cut and pasted failed to mention her mum wasn't just a councillor but went on to become mayor...

She clearly grew up on the mean streets of Guildford...

Got her degree, became human rights barrister for well known Labourite Michael Mansfield QC. Married a sir, gaining her title.. her hubby becoming QC then judge... property and money have then followed.

It's a really rags to riches story isn't it? Poor little wretch growing up in absolute poverty makes good... mybe that's why Labour aren't championing more.

TL;DR version - Thornberry hardly grew up in any semblance of poverty. If her brother is really a white van man, then maybe she shouldn't have sneeringly mocked a white van man displaying the English flag...

EDIT:

Having read the article, note that her brother is described also as a photojournalist. Hmm, interesting.

Is this further proof that grammar school selection via the 11 plus is a terrible system?

Pretty much all educational experts agree.

"then maybe she shouldn't have sneeringly mocked a white van man displaying the English flag..." Fake news, never happened. She was someone who took photos and put them on her Twitter feed, and thought that it was a good photo which it was. She never claimed to know anything about football.

But it's good that we agree that she didn't come from a privileged background. What's suprising about a Labour-supporting trainee lawyer joining a Labour-supporting law firm - how is that relevant, what's your point?

I hadn't realised that her mother later became a mayor, which is impressive from a single mother.

You're right again that some parts of Guildford are a bit dodgy, but I've no idea if the council estate that she grew up in was one of them.

Real news, it happened. Football? who said anything about football?

Didn't come from a privileged background, ok, keep believing Nugee's spin on things. Interesting how her brother was portrayed as white van man builder with no real attention being paid to him also being a photojournalist. Such an odd combination of occupations there...

There's zero chance Nugee came from a disadvantaged background, behave, just look at the parentage...

Odd combination of occupations? Do you know anything about photojournalists? They often have other jobs and come from all walks of life. You sound so ignorant.

I imagine a photojournalist would need a white van to store all his cameras and pens.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Typically photojournalists can't read or write, thats why they take pretty pictures.

Anyone would think that Labour is on the verge of taking power given Bluey's desperation to smear any and all things red. When in actual fact they're about to get annihilated. And the insistence on referring to Thornberry by a title she married into but has chosen not to use, a basic right of every human being, is just childish beyond belief.

Its not surprising from Bluey.

The Tories entire election strategy is to attack corbyn over everything.

Any detailed ana!sis of their own position is to be avoided at all costs.

This is the uncomfortable truth.

I am from a working class background and don't identify with many Labour MPs at all, and haven't for a long, long, time.

Something I have noted a lot of people do in their everyday life -
Do something because it is in their own self-interest (and they want to do it), then claim that they did it for the good of everybody/somebody else...usually in a pious, sanctimonious manner.

This is what has become of the Labour Party. It has been hijacked.
Middle class, wealthy, well educated, snobs don the 'Labour cloak'. They then use the fact that they are 'Labour' as a shield to justify why they act in their own self-interest and declare that this is the right position to take to defend the working class/poor/oppressed/minority.... while sneering at any actual working class people they ever come across.

...it was a game that worked for a while but now people see through it.

You will never, ever, see a Labour politician on the TV miss the opportunity to mention that they went to a Comp / lived on a council estate / are the products of a broken home etc.
Never.

It shouldn't matter but unfortunately it does, that's why they play the class card.

Therefore the other parties have the right to point out that most of them are actually quite posh, do they not?
