Where will we finish up this season? on 10:13 - Oct 23 by dobjack2 | Relegation- not enough goal scorers let alone creators in the team. Ki and routledge needed upgrading from that formation and the search for Leon's replacement has been fruitless. |
Have we really made THAT much of an effort to replace Leon though? Canas never really settled in and Cork is a completely different type of player

Where will we finish up this season? on 09:25 - Oct 23 by Brynmill_Jack | Every game, be it against top four or anyone else in the league is going to be equally ad difficult. We can't break ultra defensive sides as we've no creative element at the moment. Siggy is looking like a spent force already and Fer was an unused sub. We should have gone in properly for Ziyech or another creative midfielder but Huw sat on his hands. Allen would have been a good quality addition and we had the chance to offload Ki but we f*cked it up. Theses are the reasons we'll go down if we invariably do. |
I genuinely believe we would be nowhere near the mess we are in now had Allen signed. It's criminal how we can come into a premier league season with the spine of the team this weak. I do think we will spend in January, Yanks will panic as relegation would be disasterous for them, but I think it will be too late. I'm looking at the fixtures and the next game I realistically see us getting something from is Palace at home. We will be cut adrift.
Where will we finish up this season? on 10:37 - Oct 23 with 1016 views | 3swan | With what has happened so far this season and the wasted transfer windows I can see a hard time to turn things around. That only gives us relegation. Now the positive side of me hopes that Bob and the players themselves can lift their game by a few % added to some strengthening in January. To give us a fighting chance we have to keep in the mix by the end of the year.

Where will we finish up this season? on 09:02 - Oct 23 by jackjackjackjack | Relegation looks a distinct possibility. 29 games left, and we need to get to 40 points for safety. Currently have 5. If we carry our present form over the season we'll get to 21 points, which, obviously, isn't good enough. To get to 40 points we'll need to average 1.2 points per game. If we break the forthcoming season down into 5 game sections, that'll mean 2 wins every 5 games. Seeing as we drew with Watford, we need 2 wins, or 1 win and 2 draws in the next 4 games (Stoke away, Man U at home, Everton away, Crystal Palace at home) to move above the "heading for relegation trend line". tl;dr : need to start winning lots of games. |
in those fixtures last year we achieved: - 1/3/3/1 = 8 out 12 way above the trendline

This is the second worry for me - do we have the experience now at recruitment level to make January a success?. If we spend big on the wrong players and still go down what then? A fire sale for Jason and Steve to cut their losses? The club will be saddled with debt and a high wage bill. I just hope that Bob finds a new Leon and a new creative force as without them the game is up.

I don't think that we have looked to replace the job Leon does for the team but have simply looked to replace Leon in the team. As you point out the current player bought to replace him is a different type of player. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Same goes for Ash and Rangel, we are now playing catch up.

Where will we finish up this season? on 09:08 - Oct 23 by Brynmill_Jack | Don't leave Gylfi off the hook. He's hardly done anything this season compared to what he was doing last season. |
Not disputing that he couldn't have done a lot better but you've got to admit it's pretty difficult for him to be at his creative best when you've got the likes of Ki & Fer passing like blind men and then Jack Cork who takes about 25 touches before getting it off. I'm struggling to think of many instances where Gylfi's received the ball facing forward when we've got the run on our opponents all season.

That losing run was against the eventual top4. So by that reckoning we're still in with a fair shout, glass half-full like

We had Guidolin, Ash and Ayew last season. Whatever anything he thinks of any of them, they all played a big part in us finishing 12th. I don't see us getting relegated though.

Where will we finish up this season? on 00:56 - Oct 24 with 706 views | Ebo | With the current squad I have to say 17th/18th but if we do get backing in January then we could finish around 15th. January is a window we rarely spend big or take much interest in traditionally, so I think this coming January will either make or break us. Overinflated prices and clubs not looking to sell make it a difficult window so it would look likely that loan deals would be done. If we get upgrades on the likes of Ki/Cork and another pacy winger comes in then we can push on, however if it goes the other way and like for likes come in or no one at all then we are finished at this level.
