The old Caswell bay hotel. I think castaways was the top bar and onedins was the nightclub beneath it. My memory is hazy so I'm happy to be corrected.
Andrew Beasley was a year or two above me in bishopston. Big lad, talented musician as I recall.
I think you're right - we used to go down to the Caswell Bay a lot.
Andrew was a very big lad - very blonde and a brilliant violinist. I think he played with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Someone told me he had died I'm sad to say, although I hope this was a misplaced rumour.
Brilliant guy - massive laugh. You must know people like Chris Lang and Anthony Sommerville ( sp?) then. Great friends.

It wasn't blowing a gale there then? I spent the day wrapped up at Port Eynion, the wind was wicked. I should have gone to Three Cliffs instead...or maybe the ale would have warmed me up.
Wasn't too bad at Oxwich quite sheltered there........really sheltered in the Oxwich Bay Hotel garden 😉

I genuinely can't remember whether it was 1984 or 1985. I know I was about 17.
I can't rule it out on the kissing bit because I remember that being a particular benefit of working there - lots of tanned boys coming up from the beach.
Sh*t!
I'm a bit worried now !
Oh! Carl Jung would have loved this!
The more I think of it the more likely it seems. Don't panic! My memory, growing more rose-tinted by the minute, is of the girl from the shop sitting on my lap on the wooden benches outside the Oxwich Bay Hotel. Summer evening, Southern Comfort and, given the year, me probably smelling of Mandate!
All young, innocent stuff. Lots of kissing, though. Lots.

You're correct, nothing beats Joes except its capability to add a few inches to pinch.
Come on now Jill we both know when your being turned into a rag doll after several vodkas those extra inches are merely the handlebars to a successful night in.

Oh thank the Lord - that wasn't me :-)
I think it must have been 1985 that I was there rather than 1984. In fact, I used to drive there and I think I passed my test at the end of 1984 so it must have been the following summer.
My reputation can remain intact

Ha! Ha! Your reputation would have remained perfectly intact either way, it was all quite sweet.
Talking to a friend of mine earlier he reckoned we would all have been down there in '84 and '85. Both of us seem to recall the problem with the shoal of jellyfish mentioned earlier, though that could have happened a few years on the trot during the mid-80s?
This is a long time ago now but I seem to recall a girl with fairish shoulder length hair. I'm calling to mind an Alder jacket too?

I did have shoulder length fairish hair - it was light brown most of the year but used to go quite blonde in the summer. Quite short (me rather than my hair) - 5 foot three ish (as I remain).
Didn't have an Alder jacket although I remember quite clearly wanting one (in dark blue). All the boys had one at the time.
I did used to spend quite a lot of time talking to the boys coming up from the beach ! There was a stall as well that sold beach stuff as I recall and I used to spend time talking to the boys on there as well. Did very little work it seems :-) I loved that job! Friends used to come down later in the afternoon and we used to go to the Oxwich Bay hotel or back to Kittle for drinks. Great summer that was - I remember the sun shining a lot but whether it did or whether I just remember it that way who knows. The following summer I worked in Smiths Crisps which was utter crap in comparison (although it paid about 10 times as much).
Nowhere better to be a teenager than Gower.
Edited to add: actually I can tell you exactly what I was wearing that summer - Benetton. I used to spend my money (all of it) there. It was also a summer when I was a great fan of Capri pants from memory, and white trousers - baggy on the legs and tight at the ankles (as I was a bit of a new romantic). So if that helps :-)

I did indeed have a turquoise Benetton polo shirt.
Did I try to chat you up :-)
I was at an age when all I knew about girls I'd got from Byron and Tennyson and absorbed their tendency to idealise everything but it still speaks volumes about how pretty you must have looked if I can remember what you were wearing thirty-something years later!

Aw bless you :-)
We all looked lovely in those days - 17 years old with hair bleached by the sun and golden tans!
As a wise man once said - Teenage Dreams are Hard to Beat' :-)
