Neil Taylor 08:52 - Mar 6 with 6193 views | BenJ94 | I've been getting a lot of stick from a mate of mine because I apparently seem to slag Taylor off a lot, but when I give a reason as to why I'm having a go, his excuse is "he doesn't have help from the winger" so we had this discussion yesterday again, and questioned him if it was the wingers fault he sh!t out on numerous tackles, give the ball away on more than 1 occasion etc, so am I being harsh? I personally think his time is up, he doesn't add anything to our attack or defence! What's your opinions?
Neil Taylor on 16:15 - Mar 6 with 1518 views | jack247 | Thank god Alan Curtis and Francesco Guidollin pick the team. He is a decent PL full back. He wouldn't have been a near ever present for 4 of our 5 years here if he wasn't. If we persist without wingers next season, he will probably need to be replaced as he is not a wingback and never will be. If we revert to our old style, he is more than good enough. Particularly if we have a winger who doesn't track back in front of him.

You state your OPINION as if it was TRUTH. However others have different opinions just as valid as yours. And no he was not "near ever present for 4 of our 5 years here", he would not have got a look in if Ben hadn't left.

So do you. I can normally back my opinions up though. Ben did leave. He was first choice for a season. You will have to remind me who our first choice left back for the other four was. Tiendalli? Tabanou?

None of our managers in the last 5 years have seen it as a priority. If it is Huw signing the players, then he obviously hasn't either.

I don't think Huw alone signs the players he has major influence as does the board, but that happens at most clubs at this level. As I said a decent investment should have been made it wasn't which is why we have the frustrating Taylor as opposed to any number of good full backs who are in league 1.

Yet we have invested plenty of money in almost every other area of the squad over the past 5 years. Funny that.

Well for someone who usually backs up their opinions you didn't even get that right. Ben was first choice for 2 seasons 2012/13 and 2013/14. But never mind, better luck next time. As to Tabanou, he was never given a chance, GM made sure of that and Tendalli was never Prem material in the first place. But even Kingsley has shown that Taylor is not even "average Prem". | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Neil Taylor on 17:52 - Mar 6 with 1361 views | NeiltheTaylor | While I agree that the team can always be improved in every position, Taylor always seems an odd target this year as there are a few other positions I'd look at first, along with their back ups...

Yeah fair play you are right about that. Taylor started the 2012-13 season, got an injury and was unavailable for the rest of it, however Laudrup had already brought Ben into the squad and he kept his place the following season. I'm not suggesting he would have displaced Ben in the first season if he was available. So we sign a player for £4m and the under-pressure manager makes sure he doesn't play so he can keep a substandard fullback in the team? Really? I agree Tiendalli wasn't Prem material. Do you wonder why we gave him another contract? If we didn't already have a Prem class left back, we wouldn't have, we would have signed someone better and made Taylor backup. Kind of adds weight to my point don't you think? Davies was a youth player we got lucky with, Rodgers didn't have him in the squad. Kingsley has been signed on the cheap in the hope he makes it. If he ends up being as good as Davies was, he will rightly displace Taylor too. Tabanou is the only serious attempt we have made at improving on Taylor in the last 5 years and he obviously wasn't as good. Garry didn't loan him out to France, he had been sacked by then.

Neil Taylor on 14:44 - Mar 6 by jackedup | I don't rate Taylor, and he has benefitted from not having enough competition. But it is very unreasonable to criticise Guidolin for not starting Kingsley on two days' rest, when according to Curtis, he was cramping up badly and having problems with his back and other areas. I imagine Kingsley would have been very sore on Thursday and Friday, and in no condition to start Saturday. Besides, he has a history of back problems, so if you don't rest him adequately between matches, you are taking unreasonable risks. |

The players didn't want to pass to Taylor yesterday. A couple of times Leon saw Taylor in space and then looked for someone else. He just is incapable of going forward or delivering a decent cross. Everytike it looks like he may do, he passes backwards instead. Crucial we get a new left back as it slows our play down.

That says something to me. He isn't someone they have made a mistake on and tried to cut their losses like Eder or Tabanou. He has been here for 6 or 7 years and we have never seriously tried to replace him. He isn't the worlds greatest full back, but he does a solid job. If Kingsley eventually takes his place great, if not, we have more pressing concerns in other positions. Can't believe some of the stick he gets on here.
