Sleaford Mods 10:32 - Oct 14 with 10005 viewskensalriser

On Jools Holland last night.

Can someone explain this act to me?

I've seen more competent and engaging bands supporting Crass and Poison Girls.

I think it's probably a joke act that's come from former Cambridge Footlights comedians or suchlike.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

On the Glastonbury thread in the summer there was a sub-discussion about the Sleaford Mods. I made the following comment and standby my words after watching last night.

"Saw Sleaford Mods on small stage at Hyde Park on Friday night. So yeah one protest song strewn with expletives - great - but every song!
Shouty 40 something and coked up mate on beatbox! Oooh gritty.
In his own words a pile of stinking sh!te ....now f@ck off!"

Flux of Pink Indians, I had forgotten all about them. What was the one good song?

Also, who remebers The Addicts?

Tube Disasters from the Neu Smell EP.
Usual Crass label weirdness at the start, but a "lively" track to follow

All the Crass label bands did some good stuff if you could sit through the dirge long enough to find it. Hit & miss live though, when they were good they were good...when they were bad they were really bad.

When I saw them, nobody seemed to be enjoying it much at all, but if I had to pick a 'least bad' song then this would be it:

Not my cup of tea, but I do know someone that supported them.

He said they had no 'airs or graces' about them and that they still can't believe where
they've got to today. The Vocalist had never earned more than £14 k a year, was in his
40's and living the dream. Unfortunately because the work keeps coming in he was worried
about becoming an alcoholic! He wouldn't be worried if it all stopped tomorrow.
I suppose it would look funny if he got a 'Sugar Puffs' advert in the future !

Didn't hurt them getting approval from the Prodigy:

Used to love the addicts - viva the revolution and all that.

Preferred the mortarhate stuff to crass label - right into conflict, exit-stance etc, loved crass mind. Got politicised and stuffed up my future!

Didn't see Jools last night so can't comment on the Sleaford Mods....but you bought back memories of some truly awful bands supporting Crass, although Rudmentary Peni had something about them, and Flux of Pink Indians had that one amazing song.

Really, what was it called, Ramsey ?

I recall loving one Flux of Pink Indians song at the time, but can't recall it's title.
I don't recognise it from the track listing of their album/s and seem to recall I heard it on a compilation......?

Crass were blinding though. Until 'Yes sir, I Will' - I struggled with that one.

Well I like the Sleaford Mods a lot. Clearly not everyone's taste.

Have you listened to Jobseeker or Middlemen? You might find some merit in them?

Originally called The Epileptics... saw them along with crass on many occasions....

I did. Afraid I stick with my original opinion. Does nothing for me at all, lyrically ok, but not much more than that. Musically, poor. Really don't see why they are rated.

Another quality offering from a band that supported Crass. This Zounds EP still stands up well today. A bit more musical that the usual anarcho punk scene

Yes they were good. I remember seeing them once in a small venue on the Hammersmith roundabout.

Zounds released a new album in the last 12 months. Haven't heard it, but the first one was and is cracking

That must have been filmed before 'beer o'clock' because he seemed to permanently have a beer in his hand when he was doing that at the Roundhouse. Not much else was different though.

Oh dear, I'm gonna buck the trend here as I actually PAID to go and see them at the Forum about 10 days ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very Marmite I know but had an almost hypnotic quality about them...and I don't mean they put everyone to sleep!

And to bring things full circle, they were supported by...Steve Ignorant. Sadly no Crass numbers although I had a good chat with Mrs Ignorant who was manning the merch stall - favourite item the'Make Tea not War' t-shirt featuring the Crass logo teapot.

That's a pity, i shamelessly have been telling folk that i 'know' someone who works on the show. Of course wouldnt know you if i tripped over you in the street but it bought me some kudos...
Any body do something i can claim third party bragging rights over to replace this sad loss?

Just watched it back...actually quite liked that

http://crackmagazine.net/2015/10/twitter-reacts-to-sleaford-mods-on-jools-hollan

Love the comment though someone left on twitter....... "they are possibly the shittest act ever. Worse than Phil Collins. Worse than Meat Loaf. Worse than death"

I have only seen them once before but having just watched them on the link the fella on the left swaying around bez like looked completely superfluous. That certainly can't be their best track.
