Why are the Americans and others obsessed with this grotesque waste of money.
Ive been alive and seen Yuri be the first man in space, Armstrong and his chums get to moon first and now Pluto photographed in detail.
Ive heard the argument as to how it helps us broaden our understanding of the universe and, frankly, believe it utterly irrelevant for most people as they traverse their lives on this planet.
The billions spent, has always been grotesque, now more so .
It beggars belief as to what better uses the money effort and time could be spent on.
Now where did I say we can't live without GPS? Although I'd like to see Magellan navigate an Airbus A380 from Heathrow to Sydney safely without GPS.
As for the rest of your post, you don't really understand how to debate do you?
How unlike Perch to say you've said something which you clearly haven't. Don't you dare assume anything about what he posts though, he gets very offended.
You know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocket ship underpants don't help.
I bet there were a lot of people complaining about the unnecessary cost of Magellans expedition back then too. Who needs another route to the East Indies, we've already got one blah blah blah
We know more about space than we do about our oceans. Space is easier to observe and easier to get too. It shifted my interest from Particle Physics to Oceanography. I space is the new ocean, then maybe the ocean can be the new space.
I see your point... in that we don't know all that much about oceans, but we know a cite more about them than we do space. We understand the principles behind the sea for example more than we do about space. now if we look at say solar system and investigating all the sights I'd say your probably on to something.
I actually changed my degree from Geology to engineering, so you might have made the better life decision than me. :)
What an unbelievable , daft, ignorant topic by the op.If it wasnt for well spent space advancement we would be still in the dark age, many many reasons why we should continue with this , no matter the cost.

I heard you enjoy a rocket up the arse.
The first ever recipient of a Planet Swans Lifetime Achievement Award.
We travel space, because what other reason have we got to exist.
We go to work every day, why?.
We stay happy even though inevitably we all die, why?.
We procreate, to sustain our species, to inevitably die.
Do you ever question why we do what we do?. We argue over football.. But ultimately it really is filling out time. Trying to find worth in all the monotony.
The earth isn't flat, as we once thought. I don't believe life is as simple as we currently think it is. There is more out there.
Space travel is only thing we are doing which is worth anything. Every invention in the past will aid us to try and find out what we are actually doing. It is just a shame that religion, greed and all the rest of it is holding us back.
"utterly irrelevant for most people as they traverse their lives on this planet. "
That is the crux of the matter.
People are too selfish to give up their time. Even though it is frankly f'in meaningless. .
Actually Im finding this whole board ,right now, rather surreal as nobody Ive spoken to remotely agrees with comments on this topic ,the Corbyn one or many others.
There was life before space travel.
Sadly the space race became a political tool which ran its course.

Why are you finding it surreal that no one agrees with you? It seems pretty commonplace.
But of course, that has nothing to do with your opinions but rather the huge gang culture on here.
Its surreal because people out there do not share much of the opinions on here regarding Corbyn, Space and many others.
NOW THAT S WHAT I MEANT .
Gang culture/ Look around,really.
What are "great" posts on here are utterly meaningless but for many readers they are gospel true and to suggest I am the only indignant one is not really fair.
People out there, really do not think space travel is or was ever worth it, no matter what is posted on here. You and the countless other know alls really know little. We all know little .
You are yet another joining in.
As I say time after time, I can disagree with many ,like Professor, but its about basic respect .

Innit
People in your echo chamber think similarly to you?
Who would've thunk it?
If man evolved from monkeys why do we still have monkeys?
