One for the older fans... (BigKindo?) on 12:57 - May 19 with 2122 views | DorsetDale | As mentioned there appears to be snow on the ground, not that it helps me. Taking a different turn, have tried to identify the scooter helmet and hopefully put a rough date on it. A couple of hours I'll never get back but in my defence it's pi$$ing down outside so the garden can wait. Closest I can find is here https://www.google.co.uk/search?tbm=isch&q=british+motor+cycle+half+helmets+1960 No help whatsoever!! But some interesting comments if one goes to "view page" Didn't bring up the exact image. Scroll down 19 rows. [Post edited 19 May 2015 13:03]

I'm 99% certain it's not the 1970's though, the clothes just aren't right, particularly the number of shirts/ties being worn which had pretty much died out by then (at football matches). The floodlights are the old dim ones, and you can see the ones that were positioned directly behind the Pearl Street goal (to illuminate the penalty box) just poking out at the top of the stand. The original lights consisted of 3 rows of 5 on 2 telegraph poles in each corner of the ground. Later in the mid sixties, I think a couple of spotlights were put on single poles behind each goal. It looks like you can just see the top of one of these at the Pearl St end. If so, I reckon this would discount 1965.

Why? Isn't 1965 mid-sixties? My first game was the 6-0 thrashing of Wrexham round about Xmas 1965 and the lights behind the Pearl St goal were in place by then, although they could've been added during the previous close season. If anyone can determine when the goalmouth lights were put up, that'll be the dealbreaker between the only viable options: the postponement in early 1965 or April 1970

The cladding to the left looks fairly recent. Surely this is as a result of repairs after the heavy snowfall in 1966, which eliminates the 1965 game. The photo must surely have been taken April 1970 just before the new floodlights in 1971

I don't even remember anything about the games, beyond Reg banging the odd one in, and Dougie Wragg's bald head!

I think that clinches it - good spotting dazzer. Other home games on 16th (Doncaster) and 30th (Halifax) March were Monday games but Halifax was Easter Monday so could have been an afternoon game. I was at the game but cannot remember. It does seem more likely that the Brighton game would be advertised at the home game preceding it (Halifax) than one prior to that.

I agree with Pioneer - Detective Dazzer nailed it - the new roof does seem to point to April 70, but I found this picture of the Coventry cup tie pitch invasion on line and fashions seem to have leapt forward very quickly in 12 months (lots more young uns in the picture though - I concede). http://www.theguardian.com/football/gallery/2015/jan/02/memory-lane-fa-cup-third I also found a hilarious snap on line (nothing to do with Dale) that I've never seen before. Life before H&S was so much more fun! http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/scoreboards-pictorial-history-bizarre-and-br [Post edited 19 May 2015 20:42]
