from one mobile to another, is there an easier way than writing them down and putting them in manually? I've changed phones from Samsung s2 to an s5, but the sim cards are a different size, so I can't transfer them that way. Cheers.
they've got a thing in Carphone Warehouse where they download from one sim card and back onto another. I had to do it when I switched to a new iphone as the sim sizes were different. I don't know whether they only do that if you're getting the phone from them or not though, or whether they have it in every branch but it may be worth asking them.

if it's android, just tick the box in the google account settings to back up account details and when you sign into new phone it will set it all up - contacts and install all the same apps too

I tried that by saving contacts to my google account but nothing happened, I've transferred phone numbers now, but I would like to transfer my apps over.

First thing to check on both phones - Settings - Backup & reset - is the Back Up My Data checkbox ticked and is the Automatic restore checkbox ticked
Then Settings - Accounts - Google - check that contacts and apps are checked for syncing
If these settings are all done it should resync contacts and apps when you add the google account on the new phone

With Android if you have a gmail address you don't transfer anything. When you start you new phone it will ask for your gmail address which you would have/should have used in your previous phone. The server will sync et voila. It's one of the major (only) benefits of Android over iPhone.

Your apps won't transfer. They might be listed in your Google account but you'll have to put them all on manually.
