I've just read on the internet that most non alcoholic drinks contain 0.5% alcohol which means that you have to be 18 to purchase it.
Apparently they are permitted to call it non alcohol because it contains less than 1% alcohol

Is that true? If I'm driving but out I much prefer them to soft drinks. Still, suppose you would probably need 10-12 bottles to be close to the limit

Well if you're stuck in the desert and theres nothing else to drink, I guess its ok.

I can't think of any other scenario in which you'd choose it to give to your children though?

There's plenty of other things they could drink. Not sure there's anything wrong with it but kids don't usually like alcohol as the bitter taste is usually acquired as a grown up. I probably wouldn't bother.

Missus bought a load of Kopperburg pear on offer from Tesco without realising it was 0% alcohol


as much as anything, honestly that stuff is absolutely stuffed with sugar and that should be avoided for children even at 10 or so other than as the odd treat. Also - as has been pointed out - there often is alcohol in the drinks - it's all to do with labelling legislation (eg. fat free actually means less than 0.5% fat in a similar way).

Giving them that to drink is like a Coke - OK on the odd occasion but wouldn't recommend it in any sort of frequency at all - it really isn't great to spike sugars for a child (or an adult for that matter, but that's their choice). Don't forget that you could just take it back and exchange it.

Believe 0.5% is considered low alcohol and below 0.05% is classed as alcohol free. Low alcohol used to have an age limit of 16 but not sure if that still applies.
