Can FIFA take past records into account? Can't think of a case where they'd have to before.

And the inevitable appeal has now been lodged by the Uruguayan FA, meaning that Suarez will be available for all matches until the appeal tribunal delivers its' verdict.

According to Fifa any appeal on this matter will not affect the original punishment. He will not be able to play in any games whilst an appeal is heard..

Interesting to hear that most Liverpool fans feeling ashamed of him, he surely has to leave.

Which apparently is contrary to FIFA's own rules, (according to the radio report) which say when an appeal is lodged the original decision is 'temporarily set aside' until the appeal tribunal delivers a verdict.

They surely can't change the rules for one individual, just because it's a high profile case and this is the World Cup ?

An appeal tribunal, does however have the option of increasing the original verdict if it deems it necessary.

Whilst not having any sympathy for Liverpool, they're going to lose a huge amount of money - surely, when they offload him at well below market value now - whilst he's been fined less than half his weekly wage.

On top of the bans, he should've been fined the absolute maximum amount possible. One can only hope his sponsors desert him (they must've had clauses built into the contracts for such an eventuality?) and that he loses out bigtime through this route.

New sponsors already fighting for his signature. Colgate, Listerine etc.

Just going off what was read out on Talk Sport as the verdict came through. They allowed leave to appeal but on the understanding that it did not affect the punishment. The only aspect that could be appealed was the fine...How the legalities work I am sure there will be many an argument to follow in the coming days...

"Although Uruguay can appeal the decision, it will not stop Suárez being banned from Saturday’s match because under article 124 of the Fifa disciplinary code it does not have a “suspensive effect”.

He lost his balance. That explains everything. He lost his balance twice before I presume.
The next time I lose my balance, I will resist the natural urge to put out my hands to break my fall, and look for the nearest person to land on teeth first.

If everyone used the Suarez excuse:

Zidane: "I fell into Materazzi"
Cantona: "I slipped into a fan"
Giggs & Terry: "I fell into your wife"
