Is Monk worth £4 million more than Laudrup? 16:28 - Feb 11 with 3074 views | Glyn1 | If you had been a director, which option would you have voted for? (1) Michael Laudrup stays as manager. We finish 12th. The directors give all season tickets a free season ticket next year with the money that they have saved. Sales boom in Swansea Market and the local DIY stores. OR (2) Garry Monk becomes the new manager. We finish 12th. Laudrup is given £4 million and is put into the Swansea hall of fame.

Is Monk worth £4 million more than Laudrup? on 16:39 - Feb 11 with 3007 views | MagicDaps | Well I think the board have made there decision because they don't think we'd finish in the same position under Laudrup/Wieghorst/Larsen/Garcia as under Monk/Curtis/Clotet. I can't see the pay off being £4 million, despite it being reported it seems he's basic salary (reported in Denmark as £20k) for the remainder of his contract was £1.5 million. I can't see the £3 million clause Laudrup would get if a club paid £10 million for him being active in any potential sacking.

Is Monk worth £4 million more than Laudrup? on 16:54 - Feb 11 with 2866 views | jackharris | Laudrup was starting to grate on me like keyser Sousa! His time was up. I was starting to lose the will to live watching his non amount of input and inept managerial skills. I don't want a free season ticket, I want to watch my team play with passion, to the best of their abilities, to use their strength and give everything for the cause! Like last Saturday!!! Is Monk worth £4 million more than Laudrup? on 17:01 - Feb 11 with 2821 views | mark555 | The difference between finishing 10th and 17th is worth £5 million plus when the final PL payment of the season based on position is payed out. Swansea could just continue paying him his weekly wage until he accepts a smaller lump sum payment for a clean break! I liked Laudrup and understand why he wanted a private life away from football but did he have the fight and motivation to keep us in the premier league? The Swans performance at West Ham was embarrassing and something needed to change and fast, time was running out. The board own the majority of the club its probably the biggest asset most of them own why would they want to risk devaluing this asset due to relegation because of a manager they no longer had faith in.
Is Monk worth £4 million more than Laudrup? on 17:14 - Feb 11 with 2744 views | monmouth | "Swansea could just continue paying him his weekly wage until he accepts a smaller lump sum payment for a clean break" Or until he gets another job which would mitigate the loss? Any employment law legal boys out there? I would assume that if he continues to be paid he is effectively on 'gardening leave'. He could claim for unfair or wrongful dismissal, but his payout would then depend on how hard he is seeking alternative employment? I have no idea if any of this is true. My experiences of employment tribunals as an employer have been painful, but the amounts paid out to the chancers that I legitimately got shot of (!) were always fractions of salary. Be different with a definite length contract I suppose?

With Monk my biggest concern is how good is he when it comes to the tactical aspect. No point in will if your are being outsmarted by the other team.

Is Monk worth £4 million more than Laudrup? on 22:51 - Feb 11 with 2095 views | jeza739 | Just because GM was an average/good championship player that does not mean he will be found wanting tactically. He has learned a lot in the game and played under some very good managers. Read the chapter in his book re Sousa, whereas its plain to see he had little time for him as a person or man manager he states he had some enthralling conversations with him over tactics and no doubt would have learned an awful lot. To the best of my knowledge J Morinho never played the game is there a better tactician? GM is Swansea through and through and yes its definitely early days but he MAY just give us the longevity and consistently we need
Is Monk worth £4 million more than Laudrup? on 23:14 - Feb 11 with 2045 views | goontheswans | You can play with all the passion, heart, fire in your belly, love for the badge etc etc you like. But it took a Laudrup signing and one of the most criticised players on here about thirty seconds to show the difference in quality needed. No amount of passion at this level etc will make up for that if you don't have it. Hope Monk has got a good eye for that as well as his passion......Laudrup certainly has.
Is Monk worth £4 million more than Laudrup? on 23:40 - Feb 11 with 1995 views | jeza739 | Well going by the substitution GM made on Sat evening it appears he has it. And for all ML tactical ability (though I'm not so sure after this season) it counts for diddly squat w/o pride passion and commitment, as a lot of our performances have shown this season. We will never know if we would have got relegated under ML, though my humble opinion is we would have and felt that way after Cardiff game in Nov. Time will tell if we'll get relegated w/o ML, personally I feel we won't. And we will be are more attractive team to watch as well.

Keep Dyer out, Vorm out, and Michu out of the team for the rest of the season, and let's see how GM does. Would you be confident enough at this moment for that scenario? I'll give you another alternative scenario, We win ten of our remaining matches, GM is given a 2 year contract. His man-management and tactical skills exceed all expectations next year, thereby attracting the interest of a big club like Spurs, who then sack their manager around christmas time. What does GM tell them when they declare an interest? Well, believe it or not he says ''Thanks for the interest guys, and the offer of a salary five times more than I get now, oh! and the possibility of the Champions League, but I really don't to be seen as using Swansea as a stepping stone to greater things'' Yeah right. Not a shadow of doubt in my mind, millions of pounds poured down the drain. Where were the shouts of Laudrup out, I didn't hear any at the Fulham game, in fact, none of the regulars I've seen at games for years were overly concerned. All those I spoke to, thought similar to Alan Curtis's description of the season, in the Talk Sport and television inerviews he gave only a few weeks back. If you didn't hear it, he said ''Everyone at the club feels that we've been playing reasonably well, and quite often not getting our just rewards in matches, and the demands of the Europa League and lengthy injuries to key players have cost us'' So what does the brilliant board of directors do? Just as the injured start returning to the team, without warning, they sack the manager costing the club millions of pounds. We've already seen a huge difference since Nathan Dyer returned.

And as has been asked on more than one occasion (yet never answered) if our problem was injuries, then why have performances been mostly shite for nearly a year, including periods where we didn't have injuries at all? Laudrup chose to go with a small squad. If injuries have hurt us that badly then he has to take some responsibility for that too.

Is Monk worth £4 million more than Laudrup? on 09:05 - Feb 12 with 1663 views | perchrockjack | Get he impression some want Monk to fail to justify their "faith" in all things Laudrup. Quite staggering really. Pablo was hammered on here because he has been in many games anonymous. Somehow he now looks more energised. WHY?Who cares so long as he does his job -he did Saturday last. Finally ,its equally pointless if you don't put the effort in and quite clearly many of our players haven't. S

Is Monk worth £4 million more than Laudrup? on 09:43 - Feb 12 with 1615 views | oldcob | From now to the end of the season he only has to look after the playing side of things.I believe he will cope well with that. How he will manage with the business side of things i.e. transfers etc. remains to be seen. Lets give him a chance to see how he'll deal with that. My belief that with Huws guidance he do all right.
Is Monk worth £4 million more than Laudrup? on 09:48 - Feb 12 with 1602 views | gibs0n | What a stupid question :-D But to add another dimension. Could Monk have signed Michu, and to this redicilous fee? I don't think so, so this could be £10-20 million in ML's favor. To discuss if Laudrup would have relegated the teem is just guessing. But I guess not. He has never relegated in any league before. One game one, and Swansea was #10. But I think its a good idea that ML left Swansea. I think it was the best option for Swansea. Maybe even for Laudrup if his passion was gone. Monk started very well. His first game was just as good as ML's first game.

As much as comfortably beating Cardiff was one of the highlights of this season, I don't think any manager will ever have a better first game for us than Laudrup did. We had a terrible record at Loftus Road and were coming off the back of yet another unsettled summer of change at the club. To smash QPR 5-0 away from home, with the new signings looking superb, was an astonishing result. I remember watching Sky Sports News during the game and just giggling in astonishment as they reported the fourth and fifth goals going in. As for Michu, given the way he was being offered to just about every club in Europe, I think any manager could have signed him as long as they had the money. Whether Monk WOULD have signed Michu is a better question, as plenty of good managers declined to do so.
