The Birmingham Mail are reporting that the Blues have suffered yet another blow in their turbulent season with one of their best assets opting for a move to St Mary's.
The Birmingham mail are reporting that Birmingham City youngster Romello Mitchell is set to sign for Southampton, the 16 year old striker has featured for the Blues U18 side this season and is regarded as their best asset for the future with Liverpool and Manchester United also being reported as interested.
However, Birmingham are said to be receiving compensation in the region of £300,000 for Mitchell who scored twice in the U16s Blades Cup final when they beat Liverpool 8-4 in December.
The fact that the player chose Saints ahead of one of the so called Big Six is evidence of how youngsters regard Southampton as an ideal place to prosper in their early careers rather than be lost in a big club's system with no chance of getting near the first team.
Perhaps Mitchell will be joined by another striker from Birmingham to keep him company in the summer.
