Southampton 2 v 3 Leicester City
FA Premier League

As poor as the ref was (up there with 1 of the most inconsistent refereeing performances seen at St Mary’s) Martin’s performance was also appalling - his substitutions, and tactics in the 2nd half, all were unfathomable, and he has probably now lost his job, whether that happens rapidly or in the not too distant future…..

What a disaster! 2-0 is always a dangerous lead as when the other team pull a goal back the whole momentum so often changes. We completely lost our shape in the second half. When the tide turned we weren’t up to battling it out for at least a point.

In the first half despite going 2-0 up we frequently gave the ball away especially from Ramsdale passing it out to players who seemed to play for the fouls every time. Some were fouls and which Anthony Taylor failed to give but the tactic was clearly not working. Ramsdale changed to kicking longer in the second half but the clearances were not finding our players.

Leicester deserved to win given their second half fight back but they were greatly aided by Anthony Taylor. At one stage the booking tally was 5-0 against us. In the first half he made a blatant mistake by not getting their player to leave the pitch after receiving treatment. He just waved away Saints protests.

Surely with the penalty the double jeopardy rule should have applied. A booking and a penalty not a red card and a penalty. Surely we should appeal this error. I understood the law was changed to prevent the double punishment.

As for the winning goal. I understand not blowing the whistle when one side is attacking but surely when the ball goes dead for a corner then you blow for full time rather than play on clearly benefiting just the one side.

I gave Anthony Taylor a score of two and that was generous.

Still we blew things big time even without his interference. As was said elsewhere the winner was like the Ipswich goal all over again. We seem incapable of learning from errors.

I’ve been against sacking Martin but something is going wrong if we don’t learn from previous mistakes.

The crowd were good and stuck with the team but we were all badly let down.

Just read the BBC comment "Can Saints survive with Martin's style of Football" the comment contains a lot of figures regarding his management style at MK Dons and Swansea.

The second time we have lost an important game, by not marking at the edge, of the box is a big schoolboy error!
When the opposition bring on a very tricky winger, surely you bring your best defender to look after him?
Pretty p*ss poor refereeing didn't help but in the second half we didn't help ourselves either, I'm afraid we have a very soft underbelly, particularly when pressed. And whether RM is prepared to admit it, & I know I don't see them train, we have better players on the bench than on the pitch every game!

It's 11.00 Sunday, why the hell hasn't RM been sacked.
I said after 3 games the writing was on the wall, we've just wasted 5 games. 1 point from 2 home games against the promoted sides says it all.
His substitutions yesterday were nothing short of criminal. His tactical nous is either naive or just plain useless, I know which one but do SR. Everyone bar them can see it.

You have to say that there were signs that we were moving in the right direction.

We seemed to be getting the ball forward a lot quicker and creating more chances. This was a distinct change from the ultra slow build up with absolutely no end product. I think Leicester helped us as they tried to play out from the back several times and gave the ball away.

The shirt pull on tall Paul going unpunished is just scandalous and so unjust. If Ayew was trying to prevent a potential danger then why bother to pull the shirt. A shirt pull anywhere else is a booking!

I still believe that we have some good players capable of doing the job in the Premier League but unfortunately for RM we desperately need some fresh ideas and a new face to inject some hope.

When you haven't won all season and cannot hold on to a 2-0 lead then you have to change direction and management because if we don't try something different then it's got to be more of the same.

Said it before RM is a decent bloke and I admire his principles but we need a bounce and it just ain't happening with him.

So I have been a defender of VAR but this game lost me. I watched the shirt pull on Tall Paul, and in "real time" it was over 2 seconds. At 6'7", he could cover the 2 yards and probably beat the goalie to the ball - whether he scores or not is irrelevant. VAR looked at it and said no - clown show. You give that penelaty, then it is maybe 3-1 and Leis lose their confidence, we man doesnt pull Vardy - it is 3-2 and we have 11 men. Then when Paul was pulled down on the free kick, VAR even stated that the "pulling" was not significant. WTF - You admit the pulling but it wasnt enough. I also watched Vardy tackle on Sugawara and his boots were up and hit Sugawara right below the knee. Even the commentator said that was a reckless challenge. Once he left due to that injury, our whole back line lost its shape and then the problems begin. How is VAR not looking at that? So pissed right no about VAR.

The ref yesterday was the worst Ive ever seen and he cost us the game.
1/ If he sent Vardy off for that reckless tackle we would have won.
2/ If had given us a pen for the tall Paul pull back we would have won
3/If had sent Ayew off for the pull back we would have won.
