Saints Back In For Concrete Ron Friday, 10th Jul 2015 08:56 Saints are believed to be about o make a move for free agent Ron Vlaar to replace the departed Toby Alderweireld for next season.
Saints are believed to be about to open negotiations with Ron Vlaar after missing out on former hero and now zero Toby Alderweireld.
Vlaar is of course out of contract and has left Aston Villas would be a good and cheap option for Saints,
Saints fans will be. Little worried though given Vlaar's performance at St Mary's couple of months ago but they should remember the player had had a very stop start season through injury and was in a side that only a week or to earlier had looked certs for relegation.
But Ronald Koeman had tried to sign Vlaar last summer after his great performance for Holland in the 2014 World Cup, good players do not become bad ones over night and Vlaar could bring experience and stability to the Saints defence to help them adjust to a tough season in four competitions.
Ronald Koeman knows Vlaar well from their time at Feyenoord together and will know what the man can bring to the table, it would also free up more money to be spent elsewhere.
If Saints land Vlaar it wont be a long tern signing but it coulda a crucial one in the hot term.

Disappointing if this is the best we can come up with

Tweets from journalists with the team in Austria have suggested no interest from Saints. Expect him to sign next week then.... But I'd be surprised if he did, they'll want a mobile centre half like Toby.

not forgetting that Toby hadn't exactly been lighting up the football skys before he came here. Give Ron a chance, a completely different player with confidence and great players around him he can rely on.

He would be ok as a back up to Fonte, not as a first choice to play alongside Fonte

lets ask ourselves Would he get in any of the top 4 sides? NO, He is probably too slow and injury prone, certainly not a player for the future Saints shouldn't be settling for 2nd best anymore, buying a player because they are cheap should be a thing of the past for us. If we want to compete with the best then we must buy the best, simple. OK we all love a bargain and Toby would have been one but players like him at his price are few and far between. We have the money so spend some of it. lets stop the penny pinching . Top 4 sides have top 4 players.

See no problem with him as a squad player but would be disappointing if we didn't add someone younger and with more potential to develop too.

Jose had an excellent season 'cos he was alongside a fast, mobile partner. Nothing to do with being cheap I suppose?

I fully appreciate that I will in all probability get a volley of abuse from the happy clappers but I will risk it,so here goes. Nick,if what you say is correct then what the hell is going on? Are we now at a point where we are so desperate that we are buying aged free agents? This is a man who is not wanted by Villa, a team that escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth and had four put by them in the cup final. Not to mention six by us at St Mary's where by all accounts he was truly dreadful. Supposedly we have the money from last seasons transfer dealings together with Premiership performance payment for finishing seventh and advance season ticket sales plus the fee for Clyne and almost certainly Spiderman? Why therefore is it so difficult for the club to spend it on quality players with proven Premiership experience such as the Burnley full back who went to Spurs and say Charlie Austin? Get your act together Saints or be honest and say that last season was as good as it gets and we are not going to invest to improve going forward. Having said the above I would point out that I wish concrete Ron well for the remainder of his career and my comments are not aimed at him in a personal manner. They are solely aimed at the clubs management particularly bearing in mind that after last season R K could walk into any management job in Europe and be welcomed with open arms.At this rate how long will it be before he does so?

Has been denied by Les Reed. Paper bolx as usual so the bed wetters can take it easy.

Jack Stephens seems to have been overlooked here too. Had a cracking season at Swindon and the club rate him highly. Yoshida can stand in too but there are others out there too who we can look at.

We mustn't forget how Ron and the others were slaughtered by Mane and Long, and then by Arsenal! Surely one or two of our youngsters would be a better bet? We have two squad players in the CB position in Yoshida and Gardos. we don't need another!

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Sheffield United Polls |
