Now if only Wolves hadn't won (and looked good doing so, although their derby opponents Villa seem slightly lost these days), we'd be slightly better positioned in our four-team relegation-candidate mini-league. Apart from the odd spell and Lloyd's well taken goal Rangers lacked precision in their passing and aggression in their challenges for the first 60 minutes. With Saito on the pitch from the 64th minute and later Frey and Yang with Ashby looking more the part we dominated the last 25 minutes and should have got the equaliser at least.
There were many possible reasons for the out of sorts performance early on. Marti wasn't there, neither was Jimmy and whatever happens with Dunne the rumours are unsettling. Cook was back for his first start for a while and wasn't at his best. Edwards may turn out to be a decent RB, but he can't give us Jimmy's energy or aerial threat. Paal and Chair had poor games.
With more players available after injury and at least one newcomer Marti is going to have selection problems and it won't be easy to keep them all match fit. Yang had some good moments when he came on and I assume Spurs expect him to play regularly, which may mean Smyth missing out. That would be hard on him after playing well.
Disappointing but not bad. Lloyd my MotM for his endeavour and goal. |

About to excoriate Tall Paul for his inability to stay onside and his general lack of mobility - and then he sticks it in the net in classic No. 9 style! Woo hoo! Ipswich were desperately poor defensively (their keeper!) so it would have been annoying not to have won that. New boys did well, Fernandes too. Those large holes still tend to appear from time to time, as with the goal, but we were more convincing on defence today. A pity with the points we threw away early in the season, as we are certainly not worse than the other two promoted teams. One game at a time though! |

Couple of newbies seemed to do well but by the commentary Joe Aribo deserves MotM Scored the first goal,covered at cb when Capt Jack limped off (to be out for the rest of the season hopefully)
And jut for a change we didn't get robbed by VAR

Another day, another defeat and another nonsense from VAR. I wonder how long it would take if the error wasn't 'clear and obvious' - half an hour.
There is a growing "It wasn't Martin's fault" brigade. (Hi Bowlercow!) While it is true that results haven't improved and we were doomed from the start thanks to SR it musn't be forgotten that it was RM's idiocy that screwed confidence out of the players and made us a laughing stock. The Brentford fiasco aside we aren't laughable now - we just aren't that good. If we don't get to 11 points SR and Martin will be the culprits.

Only three players in the starting eleven weren't in the team last year. One of these Onuachu was on loan, the other two, Fernandes and Uguchukwu were our best players. Tells it's own story week after week. Fourth best team in Championship equals worst team in the Premier League regardless of manager or tactics. Wood, Taylor, Sugawara, Edwards, Fraser, Lallana, Downes, Archer, Diaz have contributed little or nothing. |

With three of our only four genuine PL quality players injured we were always going to struggle in this game.
We were very poor in transition, possibly due to a complete lack of pace and flair in team selection and still trying to move away from the style introduced by RM. Despite a large squad his choice is limited. We are very weak in the areas that really matter CM and up front and annoyingly I watched Archer pull out of three 50/50 challenges, which just pee'd me off a bit more.
There is a need to, not only reduce the size of the squad but also dispose of all those that will not thrive in the PL, if we are lucky enough to come back up, we need to try to be better prepared, squad wise, for this.
At the stadium I didn't think it was a pen but after MOD this morning can see that it probably was, although the fact it took so long to review it would question whether it was a clear and obvious error? I've never been a fan of VAR and have always believed it was introduced for the benefit of the broadcasting companies and offers nothing for the stadium viewer and would love to see it binned! |

Lots of mentions of us being tired, we played Tuesday Sheff W played a day later, we both have similar first team squad size. Beaten by the better side.
Not sure our recent results are a fair reflection of our performances we have been competitive but definitely not as dominate as our results suggest, I look forward to and end of season midtable mediocrity. |

Too many players just going through the motions, overall result was fair enough. We went ahead, played well in patches but lackluster defending and 2 clinical strikes did for us.
Unfortunately, it was a penalty. However Fernandes was onside. Be glad to see the back of VAR- if a clear and obvious error takes 5 minutes to determine, then I would suggest it's neither clear nor obvious. |

VAR is a joke. I thought that unless there is over ridding evidence, the on field REF's call stands. Obviously not when it comes to us. Plus the ref was again horrible (not as bad as Oliver but close). Even the commentators thought it wasnt a penalty. 2nd goal was pure quality in the build up and 3rd was all Bendarek's fault. |

Newcastle have better players, we are lacking confidence, still trying to get up to fitness levels, exactly what happened was to be expected.
We actually scored a good goal. McCarthy had a good game. I like Fernandez, It wasn't another 4 or 5 goal drubbing. Those are the positives. It is what it is.
