Help! 150 UK Men Needed Urgently!! (Not Spam or Click Bait!) 12:08 - Mar 4 with 5363 views | A40Bosh | Sorry Nix and others but my eldest daughter needs willing male participants to complete a survey on men's attitudes to mental health. Some of you may remember me posting over the years about my eldest girls severe mental health illness, which at age 26 she is still dealing with and is awaiting treatment for an eating disorder and extreme OCD. However, the good news is that she has a life plan now and is in her final year of a Psychology degree via the Open University. Due to her inadvertently already being an expert in mental health conditions her final module is focusing on the attitude of British men in the 2020s towards seeking help for their mental health - and whether it is more likely that they will seek help if they come in to contact with other men who have previously sort help. For it to be a valid submission she needs a minimum of 150 qualifying responders and I told her I knew just the place where there were thousands of 18+ men whose mental health has been tested to the limits due to their football club!!! I piloted the survey and it does ask some challenging questions on attitudes but I can assure you on her behalf (and the introduction to the survey confirms) that it is 100% anonymous and no personal data (including IP addresses) are tracked or stored etc. On my daughter's behalf I would love as many of you to help and participate in this online survey which should take around 10-15min max to complete. https://openss.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cHXi0UfEjtDpI8e Thanks Liam

Help! 150 UK Men Needed Urgently!! (Not Spam or Click Bait!) on 11:12 - Mar 6 with 468 views | kensalriser | A couple of observations: the questions are far more weighted towards attitudes on masculinity and masculine sexuality than mental health, and the question of whether I know anyone who’s sought help for mental health issues had no influence on any of my answers to the other questions.

Maybe the idea is to see if men are still generally old school alpha male perhaps. Or if as its 2025, have attitudes shifted. And if any of these are barriers in men opening up so things don't get worse. I could see that perhaps being a train of thought from the questions....

Help! 150 UK Men Needed Urgently!! (Not Spam or Click Bait!) on 21:35 - Mar 6 with 306 views | Spanishranger | Done. Really interesting survey. Would be fascinating to see how results differ across the different age groups. I’m sure my responses would have been different 20 years ago but also that “older” responders like me probably struggle with some aspects of the need for physiological support as many of our generation were bought up to not show our feelings or admit weakness. I’m glad there’s more acceptance for people seeking and receiving support although I wonder if the pendulum may have swung a little too far. Maybe old habits/perceptions die hard 🙄 Thanks for sharing the invite

100% nail on the head Numpty. The primary focus is to assess any swing in the general western attitudes to masculinity, and whether that is leading to more openness in discussing and where necessary reaching out for help with mental health. It is also assessing, as part of that wider study, whether knowing someone who has sort help will influence your own chances of doing the same. Lorna spoke to me about the reasons for her pursuing this topic again on Weds night and "why I am undertaking this survey dad" I am paraphrasing her now but the numbers of men in the UK who are taking their own lives due to mental health problems is now being referred to as "a silent epidemic" and men are nearly 3 times as likely to take their own lives than women. Lorna says that the thought of so many thousands (and it is thousands) who have gone through what she has experienced is so upsetting and that more needs to be done to understand the root causes of the massive increase in male suicide. So a massive thank you to everyone on Loft For Words who have taken the time to complete the survey, as we suspect the fast ramp up of responses was within the first 24hrs of my sharing the request on here.
