What a player.
He loved the Swans.

I remember walking through Naples city centre a few years ago there were stalls selling football shirts and scarves . Just about every scarf had his name on it despite the fact he hadn't played for them for years.

Not for me, all his cheating rules him out of the GOAT debate.

I'd put Messi ahead of him if only Messi could do it at a world cup! So Ronaldo.....

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Pele

No question

You can only be the best of your era and both Pele and Maradona did that.

Football was more competitive when Maradona was king and he bossed in in both south America and Europe.

I think that puts him above Peles MLS stint with the New York Cosmos.
Although 3 world cups vs 1 world cup and 1 runner up is clearly a very significant difference.

Both make any sensible World XI.
Not sure Pele loved the Swans as much though.

Pele played in era where great attacking players got the sh!t kicked out of them, heras Maradona era wasn't as rough.

The 1966 wc testifies to that where Pele got kicked out of it which in turn affected brazils chances of winning it.

Maradona took an absolute hiding on the pitch, unbelievable player though, but his last few yrs tarnished his legacy, a bit like HJ tbh

Always a good discussion as there’s never a “right’ answer.

For pure ability I’ll stick with Diego. What he achieved with not a particularly large amount of world class international teammates with Argentina, and winning Seria A with a mediocre Napoli team means he’s number 1 for me.

The Best! There is only one George. Shone brightly then burnt out too quickly. Crap pitches, with Hunter, Bremner, Harris etc trying to separate your legs from your body. True genius.
Put Cruyff on the list of greats. 1974 Holland team. Drank and smoked like troopers but did play a beautiful possession style of football. Blwdy Muller.

As I’ve said on here God Knows how many times when I was a kid EVERYBODY wanted to be like George with a ball at their feet in the playground.

George Best was the one ALL us kids looked up to. He was simply the Best..

Alex Ferguson put Maradona, Pele, Cruyff, zidane, platini, and di stephano above Best.

George was a hero to me.

When I was a kid at break time Maradona was probably on break time himself. If he was running around in the yard like us chances are he was dreaming of dribbling and dropping a shoulder like George.

I doubt anybody in the mid-70s was dreaming of playing like Alex Ferguson! 😂

Pele for me given the international team around him was pretty good and entertaining,
Diego was pretty good with a number of intense players around him.
Best never had that support at international level but at club level he had quality around him.
Sometimes the best players need support around them to be able to shine.
There is a nice long list of quality players we have seen over the years that have given us pleasure and anguish

There aren't any videos of the kickings Pele took but his goals stats far outweigh maradona.

Plus he was a far better role model 😁👍

Messi won the golden ball award in 2014 as he helped Argentina to the final. They should have won it too, seem to remember Higuian missing a number of sitters.
