Turn the tide on 08:07 - Mar 20 by WarwickHunt | Here you go, luv. John Crace in today’s Guardian... It’s not just Boris Johnson’s fundamental lack of plausibility that is the problem. At Thursday evening’s daily Downing Street press conference, he seemed to have totally lost the plot. After a few days of trying to do “serious face” he had reverted to his default end-of-the-pier-show act; the Archie Rice who could no longer even entertain himself. Back were all the familiar smirks, knowing nods and third-rate gags. He sounded tonally deaf, totally at odds with the mood of the nation. When the country wants a man of substance, we get a man of straw. Coronavirus was back to being some kind of comic-book super-villain. We’d give it a good smack on the nose, dig deep for 12 weeks, and then everything would be more or less back to normal. First we take coronavirus, then we take Brexit. Both were things that could be “got done”. It’s not even as if Boris intentionally means to be glib. He’s desperate to be seen as a great leader. It’s just that he’s fundamentally psychologically flawed. He genuinely can’t bear anything that is too real or too meaningful as it exposes his narcissistic wound that can never heal. So he has to deflect, make light, minimise. Anything but empathy. That costs him far too much. |
lol Guardian gash, the only surprise is that he didn’t throw a little ditty in at the end saying how Corbyn would have cured it by now,twà t.

I think Crace is, or was, just as critical and sarcastic about grandpa Corbyn, Darran. Never mind, son, we'll have a proper Labour leader in place in a couple of weeks' time, then the forensic spotlight will really be thrown on Boris.

Turn the tide on 23:43 - Mar 19 by monmouth | And he'll take all the credit and act like Churchill as if he personally won the war against the virus. Don't mess with GB, virus. I'd settle for that right now, given the shambolic non preparations that my nurse wife described earlier, and the reactive rather than proactive approaches. Let's not forget that 'herd immunity' was the irrefutable science that wewere meant to trust less than a week ago. Then again China has no new cases after, what, 8 or 9 weeks? And it's not about time, it's relative severity that is the measure here. How many will die in that 12 week period? Lets hope to god not many. His turn of phrase is still a disgrace. Statistically, myself and a few others on here have a chance of not being around after 12 weeks and the moronic c*nt is still not testing health professionals in the front line nor providing anything but laughable protection, putting my wife and many others in peril. So yeah I'm a bit sensitive to the eton mess spouting off with his send it packing, turn the tide and particularly 'do what it takes' shit when he's doing nothing of the kind. There's your translation. |
Very good, sir | | | |

"John Crace in today’s Guardian... It’s not just Boris Johnson’s fundamental lack of plausibility that is the problem. His own personal opinion At Thursday evening’s daily Downing Street press conference, he seemed to have totally lost the plot. OK, back up your statement with evidence After a few days of trying to do “serious face” he had reverted to his default end-of-the-pier-show act; the Archie Rice who could no longer even entertain himself. Entirely his own sneering opinion, again no evidence. Note the arrogance and the cultural snobbery, you will only get his reference to Archie Rice if you are into 'Theatre' Back were all the familiar smirks, knowing nods and third-rate gags. The writer can't stand the fact that Boris is naturally chipper, not enough hand wringing. Again, this is entirely his own personal opinion based on who he assumes Boris to be as a person. A character assassination, like little girls do in the playground. He sounded tonally deaf, totally at odds with the mood of the nation. The bloke read out the message that the EXPERTS (oh the irony) are asking the government to deliver to the public, he did so in a calm, reassuring, positive manner...as we wouldn't want peeps panicking When the country wants a man of substance, we get a man of straw. Again, his own personal opinion. The country voted for this man in their droves, he persuaded a lot of people to vote Tory for the first time in their lives...this was only a few short months ago. This prick on the other hand advocated Jeremy Corbyn for leader, the public are still laughing. Coronavirus was back to being some kind of comic-book super-villain. We’d give it a good smack on the nose, dig deep for 12 weeks, and then everything would be more or less back to normal. No evidence to back this statement up, just his own personal take on the message from the government that "We will fight Corona Virus (following the measures advised by THE EXPERTS) and defeat it. First we take coronavirus, then we take Brexit. Ahhh, now we come to it. Still p*ssed that the country voted to leave the EU twice. Conflating two things that don't belong together. Both were things that could be “got done”. It’s not even as if Boris intentionally means to be glib. He’s desperate to be seen as a great leader. These pricks are panicking now because Boris is going to be the leader that gave the public what they wanted (leaving the EU) despite the establishment doing everything they could to defy democracy and will be the Prime Minister who remained calm, did what was necessary and steered this country through the Corona Virus crisis. When we are through this and the panic has subsided Boris will be given the credit by the public and Labour can kiss their arses goodbye. It’s just that he’s fundamentally psychologically flawed. Says, f*cking who. The public know that it is priviledged, middle-class, snow flakes like John Crace that are 'flawed' He genuinely can’t bear anything that is too real or too meaningful as it exposes his narcissistic wound that can never heal. true....but unfortunately in my opinion Boris , or the Health Minister who I watched this morning do not fill me with confidence in what they are saying,or being tough enough in telling us what to do, though I do feel he is correct if we all act sensibly, we may see a turn around of things slowly start as they say.

This has echoes of brexit, some people are really hoping Bojo will fail just so they can harp on about it. If Corbyn or even Swinson had won, even though I would never had voted for them I would be rooting for them to win this war because this is much bigger than personal feelings. Bojo is a complete W anchor but I want him to win this because the alternative is too horrific to contemplate.

Doesn’t everyone hope we do turn the tide and send it packing within 12 weeks? Why does everything have to be political all the time? |
The photos taken this morning of commuters on the London Underground tell me that we won't be sending this packing any time soon.

That photo doing the rounds doesn’t make sense to me. Evidence from here from people that have had to use it, is that the tube is almost deserted. Even in rush hour. I’m not sure whether that is one of the ‘nudge’ activities? We’ve had a couple of days showing elderly people or NHS staff staring at empty shelves (trying to stop people stockpiling). We had the last 12 hours or so with loads of posts from doctors / nurses saying how bad things are (again emphasising to people how serious it is), and we’re now (after the tube has partially shut) seeing lots of pictures of crowded carriages (stay off public transport messaging). There’s a lot of tech being used. Everyone I know in London is staying inside. Edited to add: TFL have just released figures. Tube travel is down by 70%. Essential workers will obviously still travel. Edited to further add: its increasingly obvious the pictures doing the rounds seem to be a targeted attack on Sadiq Khan for ‘partially shutting the tube’. I thought it made no sense.
