Is there a single football pitch in Rochdale, used by amateurs, that is in better condition today than 50 years ago? When you think of all the pitches that have disappeared and not been replaced its a miracle there is any amateur football left in Rochdale.

Spent half my childhood playing on Stoney. Not local league games obviously, but the rutted, sloping goalmouths (especially the two in the middle) made it fun.

It was an awful place to go to. Small uneven pitches, hard soil without much grass. It always seemed to be windy and the ball wouldn't come down. Bloody head tennis for most of the game. I never played well there.
I played for TBA and the pitches there were great. The first team was in the Manchester Industrial League then and most of the away pitches were top notch. Tweedale & Smalleys, Dunlop, Robinsons were all miles better than Stoneyfield although Dunlops could be heavy. I remember hammering a shot from a corner back against the the upper deck of a No 17 bus there once.

The pitch in the middle of the running track at Springfield park was good as were some of the pitches at Firgrove then.

About 20 years ago that pitch in the with the running track at Springfield Park was really good. The pitch the Rose and Crown played on in Todmorden was also a good pitch, apart from having to fetch the ball down the hill to take a throw in.

One of the other springgfield pitches also had a huge slope. If you attacked down hill you had to get at least 2 goals ahead by half time to have a chance

Agree with another poster about the one in Tod. A cracking pitch but with no showers you had the option of rinsing off in a stream. Nice in January !!

That track was always a fast track, fastest track around this area until tarten/synthetic tracks came into being. It was however very unforgiving for longer distance running, due to being so hard

Remember playing for the Industry pub at a pitch at the pub standing on one goal line you could only see the crossbar at the opposite end such was the slope.

Poll: Where will we finish this season?
