Saints Close To Forren Signing
Saints Close To Forren Signing

Saints look set to make another forren signing only this time its Molde defender Vegard Forren.

Saints seem to be diverting their attention away from Italian central defender Davide Astori and are now chasing Molde's Norwegian defender Vegard Forren.

The central defender who is 24 and won the first of his five caps for the Norwegian national side in 2012 is believed to be due in Southampton for talks today after Saints and Molde have alledgedly agreed a fee.

Forren was up on Merseyside and about to begin a weeks trial with Liverpool when Saints jumped in with their offer, Liverpool informed Molde that they were unlikely to match Saints valuation of £3.5 million at this time, so Molde gave their permision for Saints to talk to the player.

Forren has also been watched by Everton with David Moyes watching him personally on more than one occasion, it will be a coupe if Saints can get him but they will face competition for his signing with QPR also being rumoured to be in the hunt.

However Saints have stolen a march on their rivals for the player who has already turned down Buges in Belgium due to his desire to play in the Premier and the advantage Saints have is that unlike some other clubs they will be able to guarantee him a first team place straight away given the current crisis in the centre of defence.

Sadly though it looks unlikely that he would be available to play at Stamford Bridge unless Saints have rushed through the deal quicker than the media currently know.

6'1" tall, looks ferocious, shares his birthday with SRL, sign him up I say! But don't give up on Astori.

Absolutely, we should be trying for Astori as well.

Sounds Like a good signing but I read somewhere "He has not played a competitive match since December 6, because the Norwegian League is currently in its off-season." So not sure if he'd be up to a full appearance yet even if everything was sorted by the weekend?

They should aim to get him signed up and ready for the Everton game. Should be a good player. At £4m there's a lot less risk involved compared to signing Astori but I agree with the above that we should still sign Astori as well.
Just think, if we signed Forren and Astori then we might have a sound defence. Add that to our impressive midfield and attack and we would have a pretty good Premiership team!!
The great thing about all of this is the fact that there is another good sized transfer kitty to spend, especially when you think we spent about £30m in the summer. The club must be in an excellent financial position to look at signing players for £10m+, and this no doubt is thanks to the Liebherr family. Long may it continue!

Indeed and why if we spent so much money are we so near the bottom? We need to spend January money more wisely and a good centre-half would be a great start...

Would still love us to get another strong goalie though as well......Paul Robinson would be perfect (and cheap)

SanMarco: We're near the bottom because we only got 4 points out of our first ten matches.
This was because a) we had some tough fixtures b) we only had a few players with Premiership experience so everyone has taken a while to adjust c) the club failed to buy a quality goalkeeper and properly strengthen the defence in the summer.

I've got a lot more faith in Adkins now. After 10 games I really thought things wouldn't improve and he would end up getting the boot but fair play to Cortese for sticking with him and well done to Adkins for turning the club around. We're looking a decent Premiership outfit now, the players have stuck together and everyone has upped thier game. 17 points from our last 11 games is a very good return.
I think on the whole the club have brought very well with Cortese doing the deals. The only bad or questionable signings have been Mayuka and Gazzaniga (who Adkins rates as a good prospect but I can't see it yet). Rodriguez is improving and showing his worth, Yoshida has improved, and Gaston will get better in time as well. Clyne will be a great player.
Its just a shame (and something went wrong) that they didn't get the defence and GK sorted in the summer but Fonte and Yosh have been doing much better in the last couple of months and Boruc had a good game v Villa so he might be the answer after all.
A few more quality additions and we will have a very good team. We definitely need another centre or two, cover at right back for Clyne (seeing as Adkins doesn't play Richardson) and a natural winger. De Ridder isn't good enough and should be sold.
