| News Comment | Southampton At Newcastle United The Verdict at 20:25:14
I think I recall this correctly. A few years back, Saints lost to a 10 man Newcastle 3-2. One of the goals we gave up was from AM on the stroke of half time making a suicidal short pass to Bertrand which was intercepted. Deja vu!? |
| News Comment | Southampton At Ipswich The Verdict at 18:17:26
So play offs it will be. Critical to maintain momentum now, we still have a real opportunity to go up. Team is stacked with offensive talent, but that is not reflected in the score tally. More than enough chances to get a third against Ipswich which could have seen us home and dry. Not fully understanding the team selection on defence - where is Shea Charles, why KWP on the bench? Bazunu form seems to have fallen away which doesn’t help matters. We have lost shape at the back, far too much given up. Finally that Ipswich winner? Their guy was flailing on the floor with 6-7 Saints players looking at him, not making the challenge!? |
| News Comment | Southampton V West Bromwich Albion The Verdict at 12:05:26
Great result. Team is humming along nicely and showing the fortitude to eke out wins against tough opposition. Shout out to Russell Martin and the impact he has had. To think that many on Tia site had written him off before a ball had been kicked this season. Always seemed a bit premature to me! COYR |
| News Comment | Southampton At Brighton The Verdict at 12:20:26
Brighton might well have gone on to win anyway - but that offside decision in the second half knocked the stuffing out of an unlikely comeback by Saints. True enough, Theo ( and Che) has some form on getting on the wrong side of the line - but this was a clear example of the ridiculousness of VAR as currently applied on offside. The spirit of the law - as I understand it - is to prevent an unfair advantage accruing to the attacking player. Whether an arm or toe is fractionally ahead or behind the last defender is irrelevant! Not usually one to beef about VAR, I will be glad that it seems we will avoid this nonsense in the Championship. Otherwise it was good to see Ballard and Doyle get on the field, though they did not have enough minutes. Same for Tino who looked pretty useful. Other than that KWP was the pick of the (fairly average) bunch today. |
| News Comment | Saints Need To Connect With Their Fans With Managerial Appointment at 17:18:14
Re the potential managerial appointment: True enough SR have comprehensively ballsed it up to date but - this level of toxic negativity is not good for the club - or its fan base. Next year is a whole new ball game for us - give the guy some room and let’s see how playing style, recruitment and (importantly) results pan out …! |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester City The Preview at 14:18:34
Agree with the comment re Brighton and Brentford. We could and should have been more competitive this season. Main downside is that SR’s reign to date has been a disaster - compared to most of us expecting an upgrade over Gao! |
| News Comment | Happy Birthday Mike Channon at 13:50:40
For one who started to attend games regularly at the The Dell in the mid to late 1960s, Channon (along with Davies) was a hero - made us quickly get over the departure of Chivers (remember him?) to Spurs. On the topic of his England career, worth adding that he gained many of his caps while playing second tier football for Saints. Also I believe he might have captained his country at least once. But ultimately to be remembered as a Saints legend, whose scored his final goal in the early 1980s (against Liverpool), at the end of a scintillating team effort which was awarded Goal of the Season by MOTD. |
| News Comment | One Day To Go Until The Premier league Fixtures Are Out ! at 12:15:11
On the Euro 2020 theme again - watching Poland play on ESPN in the USA. Bednarek gets the ball and what does the commentator do - but decide to remind Viewers of that 0-9 Saints thrashing from LAST PREMIER season. Put this finally to bed please, guys! |
| News Comment | On This Day In History - 30th April 2006 Goodbye To Lowe at 13:04:47
If I am not wrong, this was the game where Peter Rodrigues and some of the 1976 cup winners came on at half time and got a fabulous reception! I also seem to remember the lap of honor from the players including an emotional farewell from Marian Pahars ( not in uniform that day). |
