Tbh reading that thread, they barely seem bothered about it at all, most of their ire is that they can't get a paper ticket for some reason

I do really wonder what the end point of all this is. Consumer's pockets and spending power are being depressed non stop, whilst prices keep going up, everyone's slicing you up into little pieces and we're entering a PAAS (Property as a Service) era where no one owns anything and you just have to subscribe forever to live.

The biggest operators in every category seem to gouge every penny, whilst their whole sector collapses underneath them.

Everyone has a breaking point

I'd bring in rugby style HIAs for head injuries. One, it might stop everyone faking them if you have to go off for ten minutes to be assessed for concussion. Second, when I watch rugby then footers it actually makes me wince that we are apparently seeing non stop head injuries and everyone's allowed to trot back on cos the playacting is so rampant we no longer believe there's any head trauma in the sport?

First Cinema you saw a film in?

Can't remember the brand, but it was in Harrow in the Hill before the newer shopping centre was built.

Recall it was a bank holiday and the car park shut early and we had to get the tube home, the auld lad was fuming

There's a company called Trickshot who can basically project the game in 3 dimensions for you like the chess set Chewbacca plays C3PO at in Star Wars, it's mad stuff

Not quite on the same scale, but have found it quite funny given Lords was deserted that all the test grounds for next year are doing a "give us £35 to auto win the India ballot"

Frey's movement for the goal is so so savvy. When he lays it off, he stops, let the defence set, then makes a late run where he can attack the space. Watch the replay back and just watch him, it's a lot of fun watching him clock he's absolutely got them

Acca payout, stories of success
at 11:17 3 Sep 2024

I cleaned up Cheltenham during lockdown cos I had loads of chained accas ante post at much bigger prices than they went off cos of the small fields due to covid (I usually break even on Thursday, I was up for the week by the 5th race). Withdraw £12k in profit on the Friday afternoon, but had nowhere to go so got some champagne and a KFC on uber eats.

Was totting everything up and noticed a few accas off by one leg cos Envoi Allen had tripped on the 3rd fence instead of winning at the canter I expected. Curiousity got the better of me so I tallied what I'd have won if he'd stood up.

I'd have walked off with a quarter of a million. I've never quite gotten over that lol

I went through the card at Royal Ascot once, netting a cool £6,600. We were getting married in the following April so it sorted the whole wedding. My then fiancée now wife was over the moon.

"What were the odds on that?" she asked

"66,000/1" I replied

"....how come you only won £6k????"

"I only put 10p on it"

"If you'd put a pound we'd have a house deposit! Why didn't you put more on?"

"Well....I didn't really think it was gonna win"

"WHY DID YOU PLACE IT THEN???"

And that's how one of the best moments of my life was ruined.

Danny blue - thanks for your even handed reply, I don't want to clog up the board quoting it.

One thing I would just add is whilst I understand your nervousness on drugs - the prescription rate is between 55-60%. Further, there are huge lags on diagnosis, it's hard to get prescribed and then there are frequent NHS shortages. People are not being doled out these medications willy nilly to dope them up, they're often having to work fairly hard to get them at all

Getting a formal diagnosis is actually very difficult and time consuming, and it probably suffers from a similar fate to OCD of people using a really harmful condition as an unhelpful shorthand. I deffo suffer from some of the symptoms, but I've never bothered getting a diagnosis cos it doesn't really impact my life. On the flip I have an acquaintance who suffers severely, and during a recent medication shortage was terrified they'd lose their job cos the medication is the only way they can deliver at work to neurotypical deadlines.

But let's look at a historical precedent. Left handedness:

Did people suddenly fancy calling themselves left handed? Or did schools stop kicking the bollix off them when they wrote with their left? Food for thought.

We also have cognitive biases in our data perceptions - for eg clustering illusions - you say every fecker has it, amongst 10-16 year olds from 2000 to 2018 it increased from 1.6% of that cohort to 3.5% of said cohort (higher in the US, 11%, being cynical cos ADHD medication sales are lucrative) - interestingly, and topically, the biggest growth was in adult men seeking help, probably having suffered all their lives. Extrapolating it out there are 90k people waiting for a referral (and you talk about the questionnaire - that actually screens between 40-90% of people out - big regional differences) and 2.6m people with it overall - sub 4% of the population.

I appreciate you say you're seeking education, but it does feel a bit like your tone is "chinny reckon". So I'd say it's a bit unfair to judge a condition and its effect based on being anecdotally annoyed

I really love how football has learned the little "you working or shooting?" chat in the ear of an injured player from pro wrestling. Wonder how many teams already have their equivalent of the X signal to indicate it's real

Have never cared for them as a band (though I will admit that Liam is very very funny, he makes me laugh a lot) but might get an Airbnb in wembley for the dates and just flog Stella, gear and bucket hats and retire on the profits.

3 mates tried to convince me to see them at Finsbury Park. I ultimately said no cos tickets were in high demand and I'd have felt bad taking a space from someone it would've meant the world to. They all got there really early to get down the front, realised they couldn't get out and were just squished there for hours whilst pint after pint of piss was lobbed over their heads. One of the squad lived in Portsmouth at the time, made the last train but had to sit there soaking in urine all the way home haha
