Today i am mostly eating......

Thanks for the invitation, Boston. What an honour! It must be right to say that fish and chips is better by the sea, especially in Cornwall. The fish and chips from 'Colin the Cod' in Looe (he was previously in Polperro) are highly thought of. I live in Plymouth now, where I like the very modern fish and chips from Kingfisher in Plympton. Not often though - a matter of pounds and ounces, rather than pounds and pence .

Lovely, except (being pedantic) I don't think he would have scored those 18 goals 'in blue and white hoops.' I am pretty sure that it would have been in our white shirt with the blue trim on the collar.

So true, numptydumpy.
A few years ago, there was a wonderful example of how much more difficult it is than people think. Anyone remember that famous radio commentary by Phil Neville?

Film?
Son of Paleface.
Wembley.
1952, I think.

But cinema - numerous visits to the Sudbury Town Odeon around that time.

International break

"hopefully part of the break will involve stopping bannon having his annual free game in midfield on sat week, ideally it involves something along the lines of kicking him as high and as hard as possible in the first min or so."

So, a red card for Jack Colback?

A six-year-old and an eight-year-old?
I am old and I know that I am boring but, isn't that a bit young?
If they are deeply interested in football and they have the necessary attention span, maybe. Otherwise, it could be a long hard day that they might not want to repeat.

Loftus Road renovation/revamp

Conor, you will have to decide whether this meets the criterion of being a 'serious' idea.

In an era when the use of AI is increasing and robots already deliver food in a restaurant (on TV recently) the future for Loftus Road may look like this.

No human spectators at all. 18,300 animated dummies filling the stadium (during and between matches). Super new sound system to provide un-matched crowd noise, synchronised by AI to what is happening on the pitch. New camera facilities and a state-of-the-art QPR TV channel for the thousands (could become millions?) of QPR fans to watch from wherever they are in the world.

No need to dig down. No need to buy up all the property in the vicinity of the stadium. No need to improve the Ellerslie Road lavatories. No bill for policing and stewarding. Fans pay a subscription, but save on travel. A 'boutique' club for the 21st century?

International break

A couple of weeks on the training ground. A chance to work on weaknesses and to develop new ideas. Or, a couple of weeks when the players lose the edge that comes from playing regularly? It must be hard to manage.

Does it make anyone else nervous?

This could lead to either
a) the ground being closed or
b) an entirely new (and distinctly different from the gambling industry) club sponsor. Andrex anyone?

I don't just feel old, I am old.
I simply do not understand what modern people mean when they say 'That's random'. Of course they may not want me to understand.

I remember 'You're Welsh and you know you are.'
We were playing Bristol City.
I was never sure if it was ignorance or some kind of irony.

I am sure that it would have been interesting if I had more patience, but I switched off when he indicated that he would have been happier if Luton had not drawn QPR. He would have preferred a team 'completely random'. Was the 2nd Round draw not 'random'?

Smyth is different from e.g. Dembele - he does everything at great speed. The much called-for 'pace'. But, this means that he does not have the luxury of being able to 'look up' and some crosses will be wasted. It also means that those in the middle should be better at working out where the ball from Smyth is likely to go. Maybe that takes time.

Those of us who have been watching football for a long time know that it is perfectly possible for a 10-man team committed to defence to hold out against an 11-man team committed to attack; frustrating though it may be for the attacking team.
Plymouth Argyle have had some practice at it.
Last season, they drew 0-0 at LR, having had a player sent off in the first half. Rangers had 29 shots at goal, 10 of which were on target.
Today, they drew 1-1 at LR, having had a player sent off in the first half. Rangers had 30 shots at goal, 10 of which were on target.
It's frustrating, but we shall have better days.
