Brendan mentions us in his press conference

Third paragraph - probably all of it.

We don’t have the individual players to drive through midfield and open up gaps and we don’t have the kind of synergy the Martinez and Rodgers teams had that let them pass and move their way through opponents.

As Richard said, those teams were together a long time and players instinctively knew what their teammates would do.

Plus they were better individually as well as collectively.

Kind of agree.

We’re taking the ball from an area we are likely to be turned over, to the other side of the pitch where we usually have a numerical advantage.

I wouldn’t say preventing the opposition nicking the ball and counter attacking in areas they have more players doesn’t have purpose, but I agree it’s not a very effective attacking tactic, particularly when compared to when Martinez and Rodgers teams did it.

If you could have been a championship footballer, you would have. So would I.

Yes, absolutely. I’m not trying to imply Williams and this group of players do it anywhere near as effectively as Rodgers and his.

It’s the same principle, it’s not pointless possession and it does increase the amount of ball we have, which some people get annoyed about.

Without doubt, it’s slower and more predictable. As Richard said, it’s far more effective when you vary the side and angle you attack from. In fairness, Rodgers was a better manager and he was working with better players.

Maybe there should be a different word for it.

Being knacketed from working yourself to the bone and not being at your peak, which elite athletes need to be to compete, are both versions of fatigue but not really the same thing. Both are valid though.

It’s relative isn’t it. The likes of Allen, Naughton and anyone else in our squad could play local football 5 days a week.

The lads who work 60 hour weeks at the steelworks, go out on the weekend, smoke and still play Saturday and Sunday are fit enough for the level they play at. It’s in no way comparable to competing against elite athletes who are at their peak fitness.

Nor is it comparable to bring a miner.

This is what we try to do now, albeit less successfully and with inferior players.

We often try to go down one flank, get crowded out, go back to the fullback, then centre back, across the back line and forward down the other flank. Obviously this is 30 seconds or so of unchallenged possession and affects the possession stats.

It’s essentially what he’s describing.

The difference is we were much more incisive when we got past halfway with the likes of Rangel and Dyer playing triangles with our midfield. The bit about starting again and changing the point of attack is the same.

I don’t know how seriously they will be taking this, but their first team beats ours quite easily. They finished 4th last season and spent £100m in the summer.

I’m not sure that going there with our best eleven would get a result anyway. Our players looked fried against Portsmouth and Luton (I’m sure Williams’ comments didn’t help matters, but they were clearly fatigued anyway).

I’d be using this as a chance to play the likes of Abdulai and Lloyd. Keep the lads who play every week on the bench or out of the squad. Grimes and Cullen have dropped from their usual levels lately. I’d be resting them, but I don’t think Williams will.

Ok, back to your original question.

Yes, I’m pretty certain Brentford would entertain bids for him.

Relax. I’m just saying it’s.a fair point.

The trouble with not watching games and just looking at numbers, is MPH compares favourably to Franco in your book.

I think what WR is getting at, is would Resolven ask that question if he’d actually seen MPH play?

It’s a fair point

It’s just a stupid notion. Even if he was frozen out, clubs would still want him on a free in the summer.

We had the exact same scenario with Manning and a similar one with Piroe (one year left but valuable). They both gave 100% until their last game.

We were spiralling rapidly under the last lot. Insulting contract offers. League one was a matter of time.

These guys have to stabilise us before we can start looking at bigger transfer fees and wages.

£6m of that towards the playing squad I think. Presumably wages included in that.

He has to strike a balance between resting knackered players and not getting humiliated.

He’s probably on thin ice as it is. He’ll be wary of a hammering.

You would want us to freeze one of our best players out when we’ve only got two centre backs?

We’re safe from relegation at the moment. We won’t be if we end up playing Christie every game.
