That defeat is down to Martin
at 11:44 25 Aug 2024

The massive gaps in the middle was down to playing 5 at the back, meaning we sacrificed a midfielder.

Downes tried his best, whilst Smalbone was out of his depth. The forwards couldn’t help as they were being told to hug the touchlines.

It was obvious to everyone around us, but RM persevered!!!!

Nottingham Forest Game Matchday Thread

Not good enough, and that’s both manager and players.

Wrong set up, once again as a result of shoe horning Stephens in. Five at the back left the midfield weakened as it certainly wasn’t 3 at the back with the full backs pushing on.

Our only player of real quality was stifled at left back (and looked so much better when he finally switched to the right).

Two centre halves looked ok, but the other (Stephens) offered nothing apart from leading the team out.

Downes was ok but both Smallbone and Aribo looked out of their depth and it looked as they both knew it as they were too shy to show themselves when we had the ball.

Upfront we had two players hugging the respective touchlines with absolutely no threat through the middle.

Forest looked good, but much of that was how we let them look good.

Got to go 4-4-2 with KWP at right back and a left footer on the other side (if the ex Burnley player isn’t fancied to start, then why did we buy him?).

Midfield has to include the new lad from Chelsea to provide some steel and even then we need someone else in there.

We need someone upfront, either giving Armstrong or Brereton a chance (if not, we need something else up top).

We set up all wrong and were easily second best in the first half. Marginally better in the second half, but changes were left too late and by then the game was lost.

If we made Forest look good, then it’s going to be a very long season!!!

Ins and Outs
at 22:10 1 Aug 2024

I’ve changed to Southport (was drinking last night with a family from Stockport!!!).

And the outs are all tongue in cheek, some unfashionable, some just gone (like dear old Ray Rearson) and some you dislike.

Liverpool Sold Out
at 15:04 17 Feb 2024

See they sold out last night, which is pretty impressive with just under two weeks to go. It did say an initial allocation of 5,500, but not sure if we will get any more???

Are Saints Giving 800 more tickets to away fans ?
at 18:57 25 Jan 2024

I quite agree!!

WBA is an example. They’ve only given us 2000 out of a 27,000 capacity which has sold out with over 3 weeks to go.

A reciprocal amount for them would be around 2,500.

It would appear that RM has rectified some of his earlier questionable decisions/tactics, he needs to accept defeat again and stop shoe horning Stephens in.

Aren’t football fans so fickle
at 12:52 14 Jan 2024

I think some of the criticism (and scepticism) were as a result of the absolute mare of the previous season!! Think fans were at their lowest ebb and generally (and rightly) pissed off with everything.

I have to say hats off to him as he was worked wonders getting the players to play this way (I had my doubts some of them could manage it). I also think he has been man enough to tweak where required.

Yes, we have a decent squad, but think the heart had been ripped out of the club in the previous season.

Need to go up in 2nd as not sure I could handle the play offs and wouldn’t fancy West Brom or Leeds over two legs!

Awful, awful substitutions.

Che Adams for Alcaraz was the only one I’d have done being only 1-0 up. Sulemana & A Armstrong were doing ok.

Lost our shape and handed the impetus to them.

Blame the manager

We simply haven’t got the players to play the way the manger wants. He should recognise that.

Still alive, still got a season ticket, the odd post, but it’s been hard this season to bring myself to be enthused!!

Plus kids, work and a few other things have made life a tad busier.

We had a period where we managed to replace players who were always going to leave us, BUT we managed to pull off some great replacements.

Lallana, Lambert, Lovren, chambers, Shaw replaced by Tadić, Mané, Bertrand, Alderwiereld, Pellè etc.

This continued for a bit with the likes of Van Djick,Soares etc but then eventually we weee found out. Most clubs of our “status” will always suffer from this. A couple of seasons to punch above our weight, before the meritocracy returns to normal. Just think we’ve wasted a bit of this legacy in recent years and have been dragged in to unnecessary relegation battles (the appointment of Jones’s being such a huge self inflicted wound).

Well The Dust Has Settled
at 13:07 13 Feb 2023

Complete madness from day one. Up there with the Lowe appointments when he was attempting to show the footballing world there was another way.

I remember watching the videos of training sessions from Staplewood as he walked around with scraps of paper in his hand, reeling off irrelevant and nonsensical commands and being totally unconvinced about him. I imagine most of the players just looked at him and thought how is he telling me what to do!

Throw in a monumental lack of self awareness and it has to go down as the most crass appointment in recent years in the game.

Problem is that it was all spunked away during a time where we had a run of games where we had a chance of gaining some points. Been resigned to being relegated for ages now, it’s too late for anyone to turn it around.
