We need more prisons to keep the criminals locked up, that or we need many more police and associated resources to deal with the outcomes of these eary releases.

Quite ossibly we need all of the above.

Putting it together under this new government we are facing tax rises, a pensions raid, removal of the WFA putting many pensioners at risk if we have a cold winter and the early release of thousands of criminals.

It's hardly a bed of roses under this new government, lets hope the longterm plan works or people will be praying the tories get their act together.

Me, I hope people see the big picture, how UK party politics continues to ruin this country and that we need radical change if we are to see things improve.

What would that change look like though?

The rising costs
at 20:51 9 Sep 2024

No it's not about Labours first budget though we all (ok most of us) think taxes will rise somewhere.
No, this is an EU thread, sorry!

It's been said that they need more money,

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gq1e7k2j8o

And we all know where that money comes from, the members will have to stump up around 25-29 billion more each every year if Draghi gets what he wants.

Now growth is down and the situation is described as challenging, finances are stretched across the EU membership and Draghi says the EU needs more money.

https://economy-finance.ec.europa.eu/economic-forecast-and-surveys/economic-fore

There's stil a war on the continent, there been mass protests about a range of things including immigration and it seems to me that remaining in the EU may really not have meant living the dream, more an expensive albatross who continues to grow and weigh down economies.

We'll see in the long term if the EU grows and prospers and of course what happens with us but I think its a simple sad fact that politicians across the globe re ruining the world for us ordinary folk.

Voting against winter allowance
at 20:35 9 Sep 2024

Oops, wrong thread.

They need to change the parameters, they need to raise the bar so fewer OAP's are caught in the net.

If they do that straight away maybe people will believe they are different, that they will listen.
If they turn a deaf ear to the complaints they will cast their own die and people will turn against them.
Have they even considered what happens if we have a really cold winter and a lot of people die?

Except the bumbling is all an act, he's clever, devious and very sneaky.

I was told a story about him, how he performs the same routine at speeches. He turns up and plays the bumbling oaf who forgot his speech, then he goes on to give a very good "off the cuff" speech. It's not off the cuff at all though, it's very well rehearsed and it's all designed to take in the audience, to get them onside.

At least Corbyn sticks to his morals, Bojo has very few and they are completely interchangeable.

I was only talking about India, maybe you should have read it properly.

Still, we were talking about Ukraine so why did you bring India into it? Oh I know don't I. You're getting your ass kicked ahain so you try and change tack.

If you were a sailor you'd be Uncle Albert.

How much were prices when he said it?

Then lets put that with £385 for a ticket to watch the best team in Germany, how much are tickets at the top 6 clubs here? I know Arsenal had prices, well here ya go,

It's a bit like when we had a choice of Corbyn or Bojo, whichever way you voted you lost, it's just a matter of the lesser evil.

After centuries of castes, of being treated like second class citizens in their own country and the still prevailing male dominated attitudes to women and rampant sexism in some parts of the country, no wonder it's complicated.

Hang on now, prices had risen and services had gotten poor long before the war. And a lot of whats happened is companies using the war as an excuse to put prices up.

They blamed the war, then they blamed inflation. Well they've had plenty of time to sort out supplies AND inflation has dropped.

Strange how during all this, the war etc, companies have been making record profits and at the same time doiling ut massive wage rises, bonuses and dividends.

Meanwhile at Tata, executives got massive pay rises from 16 up to 62%. These big corporations are robbin us blind.

He inspired them, he made a speech exhorting them to fight, whichever context you want to take it in and at the end he urged people to march to the Capitol.

If he hadn't strongly urged people to march would those events have happened? It wasn't just that one speech though, for weeks he was making aggressive speeches about fighting and lets face it, his supporters (proud boys, MAGA) arethick enoughto react to his language.

We weren't discussing Biden but if we were, I'd be agreeing because Biden is no more fit to be POTUS than Trump.

Making an arse of yourself on here, it should be compulsory. It's good to be an idiot sometimes and have people slap you down. it reminds you to be a bit more humble and not think you are always right.

I know I'm not always right but that is an opinion I am 100% correct about.

I know the slap down is a lesson often not learned though.

You are claiming something from ersonal knowledge though, when it is clear you have none. You're makingthings up again.

All I have seen of Abdullai is in the first team, played out of position. In that role he has not been good. Play him on his rght position se we can judge because until then it's hard to judge.

PS, if you're referring to myself as a sidekick, youd be wrong again. Why should today be any different.

Oh, an an attempt at deflection and diversion eh. A tacit admittance of defeat.

Now India, a competely separate subject and one that may well have been debated by many people in the 77 years since India gained it's independence. By that I mean its hardly a current affair.

If you want to talk about historical affairs then start a thread.

As a starting point, colonialism was wrong, whcihever Empire at whichever point in history it was wrong. Colonialism was a human tragedy and just so you are aware, a lot more than 100 million died, the estimate is that 100 million died betweem 1880 and 1920 with a conservative estimate of another 50 million excess deaths.

If you're going to deflect, at least try to be close.

The democrats say he is a threat to democracy because he didn’t accept the result of the election. Except he stood down and went through the normal hand over process, and the democrats do the exact fvcking same when they lose 😅

Except he didn't just do that and walk away, he fought the result, inspired people to break the law ( even though it now seems apparent that he knew he lost fair and square ) and that ended u with thousands of people occupying the Capitol building, many of them ending up in prison amd quite a few now determinedly anti Trump because they now see him for what he is, after his litte admission about losing.

The new system for electing Senedd members

Lets hope Eluned Morgan is a bit sharper tan that then. She has put out a short survey on social media. She's asking what our top 5 concerns (in order of import) are and for comments too.

I filled it in, I commented that when so many important things in Wales are short of funding that we don't need more expensive politicians OR to sibsidise a failing airport, also, upgrade the M4.

My priorities,
1, the economy
2, the NHS
3, education
4, the police
5, Roads

Ah, maybe I should add something to my thesis. Politicians weren't all the same before they went into politics, they don't all come from the same backgroundo behave the same. That happens after a few years in the great game. Once they've learned how it all works, then they become part of the political class properly, that or they are doomed to a lifetime on the back benches.

Those who willingly embrace the great game, they are the ones who are all the same. They are the vain, the greedy, the liars, the selfish and self serving who will end up in the upper reaches of the great game, they will become ministers and a few will make it to PM.

Some of them will even be criminals. The very kind of people we should never allow to have any power.
