First NFL Game

Nabers looked good on debut - always exciting to have a highly rated WR pick joining the team, not had an excellent WR since ODJ which is going back some.

Barkley a big loss to the Big Blue.

Already looking like a long, frustrating season for those of us of a Giants persuasion. Really should have married an American that supported a better team. Ah well.

Madsen
at 21:07 1 Sep 2024

Already resigned that, regardless of how good he turns out to be, there are going to be those going after him as he is so languid in the way he moves about the place. Haven't a clue how he'll turn out ultimately like so many of the new guys but there are always those who can't see past the glidey way players like Madsen get on with things. Of course, if they're no good it's a huge liability.

It is an extreme example but it's like the small percentage of fans who screamed forever about Eze being lazy (not comparing Madsen to Eze!) Similar to that most QPR of traits that saw us not vote for Taarabt as SPOTY!

Isn't Dembele's transfer already set for next year at 2.2m?

Please don't tell me he's not definitely ours, I'm already in love.

Are these all spam accounts of the same sad two blokes endlessly digging out players on here?

Celar today

Good link up play as part of the goal
Held the ball up a couple of times
Put in a wicked cross with his left foot - didn't know he had that
Got in space from a set piece (admittedly should have at least worked the keeper a bit to one of the corners)

Lots there to be positive about as others have said.

Transfer rumours 2024

Weren't we linked with Nesta Guiness-Walker at one point as a young LB option?

Kinda takes the mick that players like Gayle and Waghorn who have made good livings out of the game are taking up spaces in teams like that. A weird thing to get annoyed about on a Tuesday perhaps.

Transfer rumours 2024
at 15:38 27 Aug 2024

Even by our own standards as a fanbase the way in which some posters have written some of these new signings off is truly astounding. It's the old be first to say Player X is no good, on the basis that some signings clearly won't work out, and they can get the old gloating going. A weird way to operate imho.

Santos was playing in the Portuguese top league for that Estrela da Amadora side who were promoted in 2022-23 to the top league. Chris Willock was playing in the Portuguese second division when we signed him. Football outside the larger sides is pretty poor in Portugal from what I know and bar playing Porto, SL, Benfica etc. can imagine the Championship is a step up in standard for him. No idea if he will turn out to be any good but damned if some are going to give him 5 minutes to adjust to a new culture, league and level!

I've sat in Row D Block T of Stan Bowles stand for a long time now - definitely an adjustment being behind a goal! Never really sat in the loft before either

Have a season ticket there with my dad and couple of mates this year.

It is a little quiet as there's only a few hundred of us in there but atmosphere seems OK. You can hear the away fans above but can also hear the Rangers a lot louder than in Stan Bowles where I usually sit when buying match by match.

I sit just to the left of the goal and half the way back. Great view of attacks coming our way - obvs less good up the other end. Definitely not the best view overall but at the price can't really argue.

Chair going going.......
at 10:06 25 Aug 2024

Precisely.

Chair is a lovely player but not of the ability where is irreplaceable. You could see how we missed him yesterday as Saito couldn't keep the ball the same way. More than one way to be an effect LW/Inside Forward in this league though and the new signings definitely showing signs that they'll be effective. Dembele more so if first game and a half anything to go by.

Hope we can invest some funds from any Chair sale should it happen to buy a main forward as has been suggested.

Couldn't begrudge Chair a move like that. He's 27 in a couple months I think and a move and money like Leeds will probably offer with contract likely only available this summer or next for him.

Will be sorry to see him leave, has been a fantastic servant to the club.

Lots of positive signs at the moment. No way this is going to be a side at full strength as they have to get to know each other.

Thought Smyth was OK today. He put in an absolute beaut of a cross second half that nobody got near. He is only ever going to be an impact player at this level and clearly only starting when others are injured/suspended.

I quite liked the look of Madsen having been thrown straight in. He may be one of those players that looks like he is doing less then he us as he is a very languid mover.

Also thought Varane looked decent going forward - another one putting in a gorgeous ball across goal that a striker should dream about.

Interesting that he takes corners and attacking free kicks for Westerlo.

Wouldn't have thought you'd want your 6ft4 midfielder on those. Is he any good at heading the ball do we know - or more like a young Peter Crouch?

My contribution is almost every last novel written about the upper classes in 18th to early 19th century - with the exception of Jane Austen. Her novels are not for me, but I can concede their importance and do like them as a riposte to the rubbish sensibility novels of her time.

Books like Bridehead Revisited and Daniel Deronda have always left me utterly cold.

I picked up Shantaram when I was 19 and stoned wandering around India and thought it was the best thing ever written. Tried to read it again fifteen years later and came to the conclusion I was mistaken.
