Need more left footers in the squad?
at 12:19 27 Nov 2023

At Huddersfield it was very obvious we had no-one who could cross from the left for most of the game. Bree was excellent defensively and okay going forward but both he and Sulemana had to keep cutting back onto their right foot to get a cross in and usually didn't as it was easy for the defenders to block.

Manning and Edozie came on. Much better going forward down the left flank, but then Huddersfield started getting loads of crosses in from that side. A couple of 'free' headers missed by Huddersfield, but as I said to my lad, "Get enough crosses in and shit will happen,"................and it did.

I'm not a Manning hater, I prefer Bree for his defensive qualities, however, we really need a left-footed left wing/wing-back in front of him if Bree plays........

5 Things From Huddersfield
at 12:09 27 Nov 2023

Drummer was very annoying. Placing him next to the away fans makes it hard for the away fans to get any songs going. Good ploy from the home fans.

We did get a good rolling, "Oh when the Saints, (Oh when the Saints), Go marching in, (Go marching in)" going during an injury break (and beyond). So much so that my ribs began to ache............. This was when the drummer went quiet for 20 minutes or so.

I mightchange my mind and side with Pat soon, I'm supposed to be meeting up with my son to watch the match at a pub near Nottingham and all the pubs in the area with real ale are showing New Zealand vs Namibia........

Top 5 cliches uttered by Tarquins during the Rugby World Cup (yawn)
at 16:50 10 Sep 2023

I coach rugby and enjoy both codes........and am exasperated by both as well. Overall, what has been positively said about rugby here is mostly true. There are some hoorays (especially at Twickenham) who come over all superior.......imagine meeting Johnson in a pub and how he'd treat you as a common oik. Lots of great fans too.

The club I coach a boys team at has very few public school types. Real down to earth club, as are many in the area.

Hard game, brutal at times, even in junior matches. Parents are generally more welcoming to opposition etc at rugby than football, but I've seen confrontations in both codes amongst parents.

Another thing football can learn from rugby, everyone can see how much time is left and the clock is stopped for breaks in games. Stops the randomness of 'added time' and bias for the filthy rich sides.

For balance, I'll try to think of something rugby could learn from football............

Good old Mossy
at 12:17 30 May 2022

If you thought Moss' performance at Leicester was bad then think again.

At Leicester he failed to book any of the Leicester players for repeated 'professional' fouls to halt possible Saints breaks and then we had the Vardy injury restart. Seldom have I seen a crowd as incensed with a ref as that day. I was hoarse for 3 days after. At least it was his last match in charge.

Then to my horror/amusement he was there, yesterday for the Forest/Huddersfield match. We live in Nottingham, so had an interest in the game as many of our friends are Forest fans (though more are County!) What a ref/VAR cock up.

Though Huddersfield failed to get a shot on target (Forest hardly tested the keeper either and scored with an OG) they had 2 clear penalties. The first 'Mossy' failed to spot and gave a yellow for diving. VAR didn't deem having your trailing leg tripped onto the other leg in classic playground fashion a 'clear and obvious'! The second was even clearer trip from behind which Moss didn't give and VAR (I think) didn't review.

Absolutely bizarre decisions in the 'most valuable match in the world to the winners'.

Possible scenario on VVD

The other thing thats bugging me is that perhaps his injury means he's not going to be as good as he was and he wants a payday before people realise he's crocked.......nah! Can't fool all those medical experts......

Watching EFL Cup final in Nottingham
at 14:59 26 Feb 2017

The Admiral Rodney is within walking distance of our place, but haven't been there for many years. Closest pub to us that shows sports is the Sherwin Arms, but it's not the best for viewing vantage and 80% of the folks in there are eating and not interested in the match.

My choice would have been the Star in Beeston but my mate (who is a genuine Manc fan in that Manure were the closest big team when he was a lad) wanted to meet up in town. Beer is good at Fellows. Just about to the catch the bus.

Will give the Major Oak a go at some point.

Will miss the start of the rugby, but have been coaching rugby all morning so I can take a break from it.

Post match I'm happy enough to watch highlights so MotD etc work fine for that.

I just got used to watching matches live...........

I'd sign up to BT Sport and get a proportion of the games but I've been with Virgin forever and have a great broadband etc offer. I just won't pay Murdoch a penny (occasionally I do go to the pub to watch so contribute in a round about way, but not directly) and Virgin only offer BT with Sky in a package.

Can't work out how SaintsPlayer got all the matches.....illegal feeds?
