Talking of Flintoffs... looks like young Rocky has been dropped due to a run of low scores after showing a lot of promise. The atmosphere in the dressing room can't have been helping him, especially at his age

He will come good. I just hope whatever's going on behind the scenes at Lancs can be sorted in time for him to start fulfilling his potential with us

Edit: he mightn't have been dropped, he might just be back at school doing his A-levels

Agree with this

I expect Cameron Ogden has been provided with an overview of circumstances and exchanges between the previous board and supporters (shareholders) that paints a picture that could be described as "less than full"

For the club to make the kind of progress envisioned by the Camerons, they should be availed of the full picture. Hopefully, the copy of Chris Fitzgerald's book provided to Sir Peter by the Trust will assist with that, but the feedback from sponsors would also provide a different angle which would give credence to the fuller picture

The eventual outcome may depend upon financial arrangements. Whilst it'll never be forgotten or unappreciated that SG went above and beyond to keep the club afloat during its darkest hour, it might've been better for him not to have foregone the returning of a significant amount of his financial input if that now means the club is being held back by the unfortunate attitudes he's shown towards supporters and sponsors alike

Something will have to give. It's a matter of when, not if

I've always regarded that sunlit day in Southampton as THE defining moment in Hill's tenure. (There are other candidates, obviously)

There's one simple rule in football: entertain. To do that, you also have to be winning often enough or it'll go pear-shaped

Put a smile on faces, starting with the players, and you're halfway there. That's what's been missing

If that's now starting to change, then opinions can change too, and should do

I'll remain optimistically cautious for now

Tbf, this has been well-publicised from about a month ago, with reminders all over the local and Gtr. Manchester news outlets, whilst booking travel tickets due to trains not running and on motorway gantry notices

Here's just one example:

It's not about having a go at JM following a loss - losing is an inevitability, and it will be more difficult against teams that just come to defend; but that's where a manager starts to really earn his corn by finding a way to maintain the greater pace seen yesterday

There were a couple of games last season where that happened before reverting to go-slow football for the next dozen, so when i referred to standards being set yesterday that's the task ahead

The same thought occurred to me

We'll see if there's a difference when he returns from injury, which i can't imagine him not doing as soon as he's fit with being captain. But that's another issue...

I'm inclined just to enjoy our upturn, both in terms of defensive stability and pace of moving the ball

There's probably a direct route to Morley from Walsden, via Elland

Someone should give him a season ticket

Huge boost to the whole club and fanbase today

If new standards are being set, today could be seen as the day they started to be realised

Another winger…
at 19:03 30 Aug 2024

Although McBride is described as a winger, he looks to play more like an ( old-fashioned) inside right, i.e. in the channels off the wing. Hopefully the goal will give him confidence to express himself more

"Lower end of the market"

In layman's terms, does that mean you'd have to price your ale to sell at a loss? Or something else?

Your point about the strikers: a playing style which plays them in more quickly so they aren't faced with a massed defence is something perfectly obvious to anyone watching

If JM can at least acknowledge that (not listened to the interview) then we need to see the results of that acknowledgement on the pitch. Until then, the jury remains out as far as i'm concerned. At least allowing the lads to mix it up and use their own judgement when to do so (without criticism from the touchline) would be a start

Yes, one would expect he'd have been grateful to McBride for following his natural instincts and taking that shot

As tactics go, it's pretty useful

It really feels like the Trust are having to cover for own goals being made from within the boardroom

I can fully understand the need for the Trust to have a great relationship with the board (which includes a sitting member, of course) and especially in this 'new era' - but shouldn't that be a two-way street? Why, for instance, didn't anyone involved in the 'stickers on seats' decision consult with the Trust about how this might play out?
