well if Joey Barton is in hoops next season and Adel is sold I for one will be gutted, We shoudl give the kid a new improved contract and build the team round him. He was very good last season until the Fulham game where he was made the scapegoat, brilliant against Chelsea before he was again made the scapegoat against Spurs (very little was said about how crap Barton, SWP and co were in that first half) and then was told by the club he was being sold and to not come back so he went to France.
When he was called back he gave it everything in the games over Christmas and was our best player and the difference between QPR with him in the team and without him under Hughes was massive. We'd be mental to sell him, most naturally talented player we'd have in over 20 years and with his new found work ethic he could be a superstar.

I think Hughes has actually grown to like him and, unlike so many of the team, his performance against Stoke was very impressive. Constantly fighting for the ball, looking to produce something special to win the game.
But if he wants to leave (like he did last year, and I think it took some persuading to sign him the first place) and he only has one year left on his contract, then you have a decision to make. Just checked and he turns 23 in a few days, leave it another year and he'll be 24 about a month before his contract runs out. That means we'll get nowt for him.
You then decide if you want to get 3million for him now and sign a replacement or keep him for the year and let him go for nothing. Judgement call. And I guess it depends on who you have lined up. | | | |

Spot on. It would cost far more than we would get for him to replace him, even if you could find a player like him that would want to play for us. In terms of his wages, any player as good as Adel would be demanding a big salary anyway so we would still have to pay up if we wanted to replace him. And has already been said, without him we rarely look like creating anything! [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

The thing is we don't want the on - off - on - off mess up we had this time last year with PSG which left Adel with his head messed up and still at QPR, but not fully commited until later in the season.
If he's going to go, best to to get it sorted early, so we can get a replacement and get a team together that works. I would prefer a fully commited Adel at QPR, but if he wants to move on best to get it done early.
If he is going to stay its important that he shows his commitment by signing a contract extension or we could have him for a season going through the motion and leaving at the end of it on a free. |  |

Reportedly Adel was on about 20k in the Championship, he would of had a nice promotion bonus and promotion % increase in his contract too, so you could argue that he was probably being paid about 30k a week last season plus apperances, goal bonus etc etc..
Now in relation to the current football climate, is Adel worth 30k a week? Of course he is, in fact I believe he is worth double that. Adel is an asset to this football club, but he needs a new contract, and a long one at that. If we give him a big increase in wages he would be more likely to sign a long term contract, circa 3 to 4 years. If he sets the premiership alight next year his stock will quadruple, all the big clubs will be circling around our ASSET and he will most likely go. To command the sort of fee we expect to receive for such a gifted and integral player he needs a big contract.

I'd prefer him (AT) to stay. Over the last few seasons he's played he's the one player who's almost single handedly justified my ST; through both the sublime and ridiculous. Always worth a watch. THE Swansea goal alone is one of the best things I remember seeing live at football.
If we're paying Barton and SWP however much; I'd gladly trim one of those to help with keeping Adel if it was a money thing. And much rather people when they find out I'm a QPR fan - ask me about Adel and not the latest Barton fiasco real or electronic.

Taarabt is the only player with any guile and without him, we have looked short of ideas. He now seems to have a much better idea of when to pass and when to go it alone; remember that he can't be completely selfless AND score thunderbolts from 25 yards. If you remember the Stoke game, you will realise he has improved his tracking back and tackling too.
