⚽️ Swansea City update from the Indy 11:25 - Jul 30 with 6599 viewsKeithHaynes

Seems that the Swans are still interested in loaning out Mykola for the right price, had that from a good source this morning. Injury record is a stumbling block. Two loans are under discussion, but that striker gap (could be two soon) is proving difficult on a permanent basis. Finances are very much proving an issue due to the reduced salary the Swans want to pay.

Looks like the club will dip into the loan market again.

On simple maths the Swans are in the black regards reduced salaries, players out, money in. However, the excessive costs running the club are not going away, but they are reduced.

Expect more dilution of shares despite the early talk there wouldn’t be more and the Swans are open to new investment. Coleman does have a budget which it seemed relied upon a positive return on club running costs. It seems atm losses could run to 15m next declarations, which is a big improvement.

The issue of course is getting the players in to make any dent on the top six, as it stands the club are fully aware that the squad is far too light and can’t compete over a season. Plenty of knock backs in recruiting players, but more talks this week. Brett Cravat has instigated a very precise analytical database which the Swans are utilising. Not dissimilar to Brighton and other Championship clubs, however they are shopping in different markets and have limited range. An example will be Tommy Conway at Bristol City who the club have looked at but his price and salary is way too much.

Personally I think we will see some form of news towards the end of this week, however it is clear the desire to complete business before the season starts hasn’t worked. Purely down to finances.

That's why I can't see us fetching a centre back in, Levien will say you have 4 why do you want another

My answer is that they’ll be just about ok for the last 20 minutes of a game if Cabango or Darling are tired / injured but NOT to replace them for a long term absence. That will happen more than likely during the season.

How about both?

If the cap really is 7k then we won't even get a decent league 1 player. They may not be earning 7k pw right now but to make the step up they will ask for and most certainly be offered more elsewhere.

In plain terms we will have a squad of poorer quality and less quantity than last season and we saw how did then. Expect a relegation battle then guys.

After I posted, I was going to edit to read and/or but couldn’t be bothered. You are absolutely correct though Cat.

We struggled last season that’s for sure and at the moment I fear for us this season.
Not sure if Jasper is still here but he’s quite knowledgable regards youngsters looking to make the step up to fill in the first team selection missing pieces.

Lissah and Parker are both highly rated as centre back and right wing back. These are no longer u21 players. Abdullai should now be on every team sheet.

Congreve must now play in the first team squad and Josh Thomas who is a grafter and the type of player who is suited to a high press. Grafting must count for something. He has a lot of u21 goals and 4 in league 1 with Port Vale. Joe Taylor his Wales u21 (Luton Town) co striker is similar but has kicked on more on loan.

Evan Watts seems above Broome currently who seems a bit of a mystery. Fisher is out for a bit.

The US owners must understand the concept of overpaying wages for a free with the option of a quick sales for a big fee. They did it with Ayew when he was 26 or so, first time. He came for free paid £3m-£4m in wages and bonuses and sold for a old £20m to West Ham.

Swansea should go for a play like this and hope he will be a huge success. A £20m fee tends to balance the books.

Good to see Cotterill and Congreve go out on loan early in pre season so they can get into the first team and play. It is good that it is league 2. They do not want to be stuck on the bench at this level.

Teams pick their first team early in the eason and if the start well it would be tough for these guys to get in the first team.

Finally there is concerns over the owners running of the club. Cardiff have had more pre season friendlies than us and have signed more players. Three players scored most of our goals last season aren't here. We also got alot of points against teams around us last year. It not negative it's fact we are a thin squad especially upfront that is in real trouble.

With the owners it's all about profit and loss. We are a football club, it's more than just that.

Hi Keith thanks for the update,
what kind of player are we going to get with a salary cap and wont spend? see boro have offered an icentivised deal for the lad Conway from bristol around 5 million so whilst understanding we wont pay the going rate who are we going to attract with approx 2 weeks before the first game under that remit ?

Hi mate, not sure it’s a salary cap, more of a carefully managed system whereby new players will be given far smaller salaries than last season. there seems to be a goalscorer coming in. Conway is off to Boro, we have to accept the finances come first.

1. They really cannot return debt similar to last year in 2026.
2. They want to remain a desirable club for investors and interested parties.

I should mention Harry Darling, we really do need to tie him down.

thanks for the reply, Keith do you think there will be an influx of players that will improve our squad and some perminant along with loans, you seem to have your finger on a pulse and with that in mind should we be more worried than normal looking at this squad that is definatly extremly thin on the ground ? you say there seems to be a goal scorer coming in , just hope the lad whoever he is can fit in and do a job, but we need 2 to cover illness injury ( we have a couple already so it seems) loss of form and suspension anothe good centre back and for what its worth another attacking midfielder,
to be fair on paper and what little we have seen the 3 brought in to date look an improvment but we need 4 to 6 more, in my humble opinion

The bit I’m struggling with is why they wasted time and effort that could have been used elsewhere on trying to put a package for McBurnie together if they are significantly reducing wages.

Did they really think they would get him for a lower end championship salary? Or are they prepared to be flexible for the right player?

Seems incompetent on the face of it.

Were we actually going for Mcburnie or was it just social media speculation. In the past when players and managers have returned to our club they have not generally been the success that they were the first time.

Their age is the important part, their ability is what matters.

Thomas can be a grafter, Cullen is a grafter, do you see my point?

As you've said previously, it's all about money.

Although it could be argued that saving money to sign players a month later is a false economy because it messes up the pre-season. That is of course if our owners are really interested in anything other than trying not to get relegated.
